The FedEx guy just dropped mine off, I guess I am going to let it sit and see what happens.
Not convinced that paying over $100 to have it slabbed is in my best interest at this time.
One question, if I sell this later (still sealed) is there anything to be concerned about as far as the packing slip is concerned inside the box and identity theft or messing with my US Mint account??

Looking for reasonable silver lots (rolls or bars preferred). PM me with what you have.

it does contain the name and address it was shipped to and the order number. so you may want to change your password if you are really paranoid, once in a while. but it does not contain any login information or credit card info at all.
my set made it to the local Fedex depot this morning at five am, but missed getting loaded onto a Delivery van.. will have it on Monday.. Fedex phone guy said they are bulging at the seams with Xmas deliveries so vans are getting loaded way full and way early.. i sure hope those drivers and loading dock workers don't know what's in those boxes.. two $10.00 DVDs from Amazon and a $2000.00 set of coiins from the Mint.. pretty much the same size box.. but then these shipments are Insured anyway..

I agree with FLBuffaloHunter these will be huge in 70 grades. I will play the grading game ($100 is cheap) and flip any 70's and buy a 69 or raw set.
I checked my order yesterday and it went on hold.
I called the Mint and was told the reason my order went on hold was they were backordered. Some of their reps are nuts.
My debit card account was a little short of the 2k and it was rejected. I reloaded the account this morning and called the mint today and was told that it was rejected ( I knew that) and would be processed again on Monday. I hope she is right.
This REALLY is a nice set to hold... HEAVY and the way they did the "prop" up is amazing... it actually has magnets in it that when you take out the wood coin display and stand it up it just stays! IMO by far the best Mint presentation I have ever seen... Sorry but these are not going in any plastic... if i REALLY wanted a set for the future price play... then I will get another... but very happy with this set i must say.
I am sitting on my unopened set and haven't decided if I should hold it or sell it. Does anybody want this at Mint cost + postage? I don't collect the series and would just as soon see it go to someone who appreciates it more than me, a non-collector.

I would imagine if you sold this on ebay for the going rate of $2100, you would net less than your cost from the mint.
This is the real world scenario that at least 20,000 would be flippers that bought this issue are facing. There are only 5000-6000 plat collectors out there. Many of the long time plat collectors are just waiting for the hammer to fall and will pick up their sets at a discount. Guess who made out big time on this offering - THE MINT. They are netting an easy $300-500 dollars on each of these (depending on what they bought the platinum for.) The mint really pulled a fast one on the flippers this time.

I ordered my first set a moment before they went on sale so I got flagged and I went through H and high water with order after order getting cancelled but I finally managed to get 2 sets in today. I hope to have a few more if I am lucky.

SpaceMonkey I don't think the US Mint made these boxes. I also doubt that they designed it, although they could very well have come up with the rough concept. I'm thinking it was a Chinese designed and manufactured product. Can anyone find a "Made In China" anywhere? I hear the Chinese are using state-of-the-art woodworking equipment.

as of the timestamp on this posting..
"Order Limts: The American Eagle 10th Anniversary Platinum Coin Set is limited to one set per household. To ensure the broadest and most fair access to this United States Mint product, the order limit will be in effect for the first seven (7) days of release. At the end of the initial seven-day period, the United States Mint will reevaluate and either extend, adjust or remove the limit." <-- which hasn't changed since noon ET, 12/13/2007..

<< <i>And the value of the box has plummeted to $60. >>
and Platinum closed the week at nearly $1900/oz.. so whaddya think will happen with the remaining sets priced so close to melt with the limits removed?.. yanked off sale and gone?.. yanked off-sale, priced higher, and put back on sale?.. a sell-out?.. sit there at the same price and not sell out for the next year?.. i don't know.. i can't even guess.. that's why i'm asking for opinions..

I think they will take off once they reach melt and until they are yanked for repricing. If platinum continues to rise as it has they will eventually get close to a sellout, if not a total sellout, as the process repeats.
This had all the potential in the collecting world and has fallen flat on its bullion face.
I remember last year when this was proposed while the 2006 W coins were the rage. Many of us were excited for this event. Now the 10th Anniversary is an afterthought. Only bullion can save this set. Sad!
I just tried to place an order for one and it let me get as far as "place order." The price is still the same, unlike earlier in the week when you would place a plat in your shopping cart and it would show a higher price. Although I do hope they are permanently "no longer available" since I already have mine.
I must be the only one in the world that likes the reverse proof. I did get a 70 along with everyone else. I'm keeping it althought I might sell the regular proof if I can get melt. Agree?????????????

Oh I think we all like them. We just don't like the high mintages that make them bullion. I'm not sure what the collector base if for Platinum but I'd say maybe 15,000 or so and most of those are 1/10 ounce and ounce collectors. The thing about it is I have a 2003 and it looks like a RP coin so this is the only time they used the name IMO. I was hoping this would expand the collector base but with these mintages it end up being higher than the regular non-W bullion coins of the past so I don't think we got anywhere.

Why anyone would buy for $2150 is beyond comprhension.
to try for a few 70s, then the small extra charge
is not so hard understand. Some folks do not
wish to go in for deceit in obtaining extra sets.

I got a second set under my wife's Mint account five days ago.
The same account , (that wouldn't allow me to get a second 10 unit Madison FDCC buy the same day) went thru no problem.
It arrived yesterday.

Anyone have their sets "officially" received by PCGS at this point???
Yes, I have two sets that have been received and the submission status said on-hold earlier today and now say ok.

Seems appropriate for a slow moving product, approaching bullion price...

maybe the bullion price has set this set up to be a winner
if no more sold due to the bulion pricing
