I always liked ED. He and Larkin would've fit in well on the Big Red Machine teams.

I was finally able to pick a biggie off my wantlist with a PSA 8 Robinson.

Nice Robinson rookie Kevin. That one is on my list as well.

I recently picked up this 1971 OPC George Foster rookie. There have been only 2 graded PSA 8 and 3 graded PSA 7. I think this would fall in the 7-8 range.

I picked up this 1966 manager card of Sparky Anderson while he was coaching in the minors. I had never seen this one before.

    As always, great stuff guys.

I'm not a Reds fan, but this is one of my favorite threads ever!

Very sweet Sparky item. I have never seen that before either. Is it postcard size or regular card side. Also good luck on the Foster OPC Grade.

    Thanks Kevin,

The Sparky card is postcard size. It's hard to believe that Sparky was only 32 years old at the time this card was made. He looks much older.

I picked up this 1970 OPC Joe Morgan PSA 8. I believe there is only one PSA 9 and just two 8's.

  • I have not posted any scans for a while. This one isn't PSA graded, but I was THRILLED to pick it up. It's a '66 Kahn's Complete Panel w/ Rose. It's a little rough, but I think these complete panels/packages are pretty tough.....

I picked up this inexpensive but pretty cool vintage 1949 photo of Ted Kluszewski that seems to have been the inspiration for his 1950 Bowman card.

    Oh well.

  • This is the only graded issue. Blank back. 4-3/4 x 3
    Love that rose package.

I picked up a couple of original photos. The Kluszewski is actually a 1955 Reds team issue photo.

I picked up this interesting and relatively inexpensive item tonight. It is a Cincinnati Reds autographed envelope that has a cancellation date of opening day 1969. Autographs include Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Tony Perez.

Those two pics look identical. Did Hostess get the negative from Topps? Just wondering, nice cards by the way.

Nice looking additions everyone. I have been enjoying finding some older photos of Perez and got this one in the mail tonight. It is him receiving the 1967 All Star Game MVP trophy.

Extra innings homer off of a clean shaven Catfish Hunter to put the NL ahead, game saved by rookie Tom Seaver.
  • Here`s a seldom seen 1977 MSA drink lid of JB. This waxy cardboard lid has a very small lip around the bottom, used to allow the lid to snap on to the rim of the cup. The die cut round area can be seen that would allow you to punch a straw through.

    Thanks

Here is a link to Bob Lemke's blog regarding two new Cincinnati Reds cards that were discovered. I reported the Joe Morgan Oakley Building and Loan card that I recently acquired. I have never seen the Don Gullett Richardmond Square Mall card before.

Dumb question, but what was the purpose of the exposed closed fist on the throwing hand of the catcher back in the day? The 1975 Topps Bench triggered the question, by the way.
  • Could this be another uncataloged item. Its 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 in.
I have no idea of the yr. but i would think sometime during his playing career.
Or maybe someone has seen one before ? Would love to know.

Very nice. I have never seen that Bench card. I have seen that Bench image before. It first appeared in 1980 and was used on the cover of Reds programs during the year. I know that Bench has worked for radio stations over the years after his playing career. However, I'm not sure of the date of that though.

I just picked this hard to find postcard. The first Morgan graded from the 1973 Reds postcard set.

Here some of the cards I just received back from PSA. Overall I was happy with the grades. It's tough to find a 1970 Photostamps Johnny Bench that isn't off center. This was issued as an insert in magazine of perforated stamps. I don't know why PSA insists on terming the ones that came perforated in a magazine as "hand cut". The 1978 SSPC Sparky Anderson is the highest graded to date. I bought the 1971 OPC George Foster rookie raw off ebay.

  • Thanks Phil, great assortment !

With this addition, one more card from completing the Frank Robinson basic set, need a nice 1958. Tough card to find for me was this 1962 but finally settled for one with more snow than I wanted but overall presents nice.

Fresh from PSA, they just started grading the Reds Picture Pack cards after mutliple attempts to get them graded. These are very similar to the Jay's cards in paper stock and size. Tough to find in nice shape. I sent in the best ones I had, was happy to get the 9 and 8s. I plan on finding another home for the Bench and Rose's. Sorry for size of scans

Congratulations Kevin !! I know it's been an ordeal in getting those graded. You should get a nice return on the 1964 and 1967 Rose as they are the first examples ever graded.

    Hello,
I recently received results of my recent submission. I was fortunate enough to get the highest graded example of the 1968 Reds Picture Pack Johnny Bench (rookie year).
I was also finally able to get my 1968-70 Kenwood Plaza Johnny Bench. This card is listed incorrectly in the Standard Catalog. In it the Kenwood Plaza Bench is grouped together with other Reds regional cards (photo below). This is supposed to be corrected but PSA will only grade it as it is currently listed in the catalog. I'm just glad it was graded at all.

I picked up this one in a recent trade, 1970 World Series political card (Jack Gilligan for Governor). Just a mid-grade card but these are tough to find in any condition. On the back are the Reds and Orioles rosters for the 1970 World Series.

I recently picked up this Johnny Bench test puzzle from Patrick Smith (Thanks Patrick!). I already had one in my collection but it is off center. This one is by far the best centered example that I have ever seen.

I received my cards back from a recent submission. The 1973 Pogue's Joe Morgan (PSA 6) and 1970 Jack Gilligan (PSA 5) received grades what I thought they would get.

I am pleased that the Pogue's was graded. The catalog has it listed as a 1973 but I feel that it is listed incorrectly. It should be listed as 1975. I have both the 1973 and 1975 Joe Morgan Reds team issued postcards. The picture on Pogue's is the same photo used on the 1975 Reds postcard, not 1973.
