Just had to chime in and appreciate that banquet program. It is a KILLER piece - MUCH harder than the card (that says a lot) and unbelieveable in that condition! Nice pickup.
An esoteric question, but...did that '63 style mock up Rose have an actual protype, in regulation card size or otherwise? If so, was it in color? Does it still exist?
We need Don or one of the other '63 experts to enlighten us (and, to quote Steve Martin, by "us", I mean "me.")
I have a number of things I have been working on but have been in no real rush to complete them. I guess I would really like to finish off my Seaver basic set and 1975 Topps Reds team set.
Thanks for sharing the photo of that Shillito's Bench...I have never seen that one. I love it when I look at this thread and see something that I have never seen before.
Regarding the '63 Topps Rookie Banquet Program, I had wondered the same thing about whether or not there was a prototype in existence of that '63 Pete Rose card featured in the program. If anyone knows the answer, I would love to hear.
Here is one more Rose item that I don't think I have shown yet....I think it's my favorite Rose item......

Interested in anything and everything related to the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats
Patrick, That is an awesome Rose punchout. A crown jewel for any collection.
The Shillito's Bench is owned by the card shop "Sports Investments" in Cincinnati, OH, and is not for sale. It is in the museum part of their store. I wished I owned it. I have never seen another.
Great stuff. I really like the 71 Bazooka set, those are not easy.
Kevin, great Perez team issue. It must be pretty exciting when you get to mark something off of your wantlist, as long as you have been at this I am sure it does not happen often.

I like that Dibble autograph. Put this one into the when it rains it pours category. I had not seen one of these in years and then two in one week. This one is autographed and also in nice shape.
We got a nice look at the 1963 Topps Banquet Program earlier, great item. I thought I would skip ahead two years to 1965 Topps Banquet Program and show a few photos of Reds players featured therein:
I finally got a Rose rookie. I held off for years but have decided to dive into the Rose basic set. I was happy with the condition and centering of this 7.
I haven't added to my Reds button collection in a very long time, however, I am always looking to add to it especially the hard to find ones from the Big Red Machine era.
A big thanks goes to Patrick Smith in our recent trade. I was able to acquire some difficult to find Johnny Bench items for my set. Thanks again Patrick.
I picked up a new photo tonight of Rose, Perez and Frank Robinson talking before the 1970 All Star Game in Cincinnati. Really nice shot of these three. It came from the Cincinnati Enquirer archives and is a little beat up but has nice character.
I picked this 1972 Venezuelan stamps Frank Robinson last week. I really didn't have a huge interest in it, however, for $72 I just couldn't pass it up. There have only been one example ever graded (a PSA 5). This is definitely one of the better condition stamps I have seen from this set.
I don't have a lot of Pete Rose items but here are a few I recently picked up at very reasonable prices. I purchased the 1970 autobiography for just $4. Neither of the 1978 pennants have pinholes.
I finally found this 1973 OPC World Series game 5 card raw. I have been looking for a decent example for a long time. There has been only one graded example (PSA 6). They are almost always off center.
Picked up another b&w glossy photo. This is from 1964 and is of Perez, Fred Hutchinson and Chico Ruiz. This was Perez's first year with the Reds and sadly the year Hutchinson passed away.
I picked up these cards recently. The 1971 OPC RBI leaders came in a trade with Kevin. I obtained the 1981 MSA Johnny Bench disc from Corey. Thanks Corey, I appreciate it. This is the only Bench disc graded to date from this set.

Here's another Rose item. It isn't a card but it's still tough to find......

Couple of autographed postcards, really like the "George Sparky"
Couple of Hostess upgrades for the Perez collection
Received back my 1965 Perez postcard, thought PSA 4 was a little harsh but glad to have it back safe and slabbed

Very Nice additions. I like the 1965 Perez postcard. It looks way better than a PSA 4.
