I recently picked up these 1976 and 1977 Topps proof cards of Johnny Bench. It's too bad neither SGC or PSA assigns grades to the proof cards as they would probably both grade Mint.
<< <i>The Bench proof cards are stunning. Nice pickups >>
I agree those are beauties!

Great cards Kevin. I always enjoy seeing your hard to find Tony Perez items.
I bought the following card about 5 years ago for about $120. As a Reds and Johnny Bench collector I am always on the lookout for oddball items to add to my collection. However, I always had buyers remorse on this one because I did not buy it from the Topps Vault and there was no documentation included with it indicating that it actually was a prototype. I always thought I may have been ripped off. I just recently purchased the new 2010 Standard Catalog and I was shocked to find that this prototype was actually listed. What a nice suprise.
Love that 1980 prototype. Did not know they existed. Glad Perez's name did not appear on the checklist, one less item to track down. Thanks for sharing
That's a nice looking Action All Star Perez. Great job getting that one.
I picked up these hard to find 1974 OPC's that I got fairly cheap but are very sharp.
The pop report on the Reds team card is just 1-PSA 8 o/c, and 3 - PSA 7's. For the Concepcion, just 1-PSA 5. For the Foster just 1-PSA 9 o/c, and 1- PSA 6. The Bench All Star just has 1-PSA 9 o/c, and 1-PSA 5.
I am hoping to get at least one PSA 8 from the group of Reds Team cards. I am thinking a PSA 7 for both the Concepcion and Foster due to the centering. I have never seen the Bench all star card that has not been o/c. However, this one has very nice corners so I am happy with it.
I found a Perez picture with him wearing #2 tonight. I have never seen him in this jersey number before. I am waiting for the photo to arrive so I can see if there are any more clues on the back of the photo.
I found out some information about Rose's uniform number 27. It apparently was worn during his rookie year, spring training 1963. Check out the link below.
What I find interesting is all three photos Rose (2) and Perez are different. Between pin stripes, team name, hats, etc. I am assuming the Perez is 63 or 64 spring training as well.

Heres a couple of my favorite ROSE cards. Both were graded before the 1/2 point grading change. I`ve toyed with the idea of resubmitting looking for a little bumpage,,,, we`ll see.
Kevin, I had forgotten that I had sold that Perez photo on ebay to you a few years ago. I always kind of regretted letting that one go. That's a very cool photo.
Here are a few of my favorite Bench photos. Both are home plate collisions. The one with Lou Brock was used in Sport Magazine in the early 70's. You can see where they airbrushed out a player in the background before submitting the photo for publication. I also like the other photo where Bench is roughing up poor Ernie Banks.
Here is the trio of 1985 Topps Minis,, the regular back,, the gray/white blankback and the tan blankback. The regular back versions are reported to be at most 100 copies and take up 2/3 of the entire set.
The blankbacks are much more rare with the tan back cards "reportedly" limited to only 20 copies of each !
I recently purchased some original wire photos. One I really like shows a play at the plate from the 1972 World Series. Topps captured the moment in a 1973 World Series card. Below are pictures of both the wire photo and Topps card.
I recently acquired this vintage Dave Concepcion rookie snapshot. You will note that he is not wearing his familiar uniform number 13. This was probably taken during spring training in his rookie year.
I love the 1967 Bench photo and Pogue's Joe Morgan. All are super additions to your collection.
Here are a few more original wire photos that I have recently purchased. The Perez and Bench photos are from the 1975 World Series. The first Pete Rose photo is from the 1973 NLCS (fight with Bud Harrelson). The last photo is from the 1972 World Series (Catfish Hunter and Pete Rose).
I have never seen this version of a Reds Team Issue Postcard (Pogue's Department Store?):
Pogue's was later bought out by Shillito's.

Thanks for the information on the Pogue's Morgan. I didn't even know it was a Department Store until after I received it and did a Google search. I think there was a small Wikipedia entry on Pogue's but I still didn't realize it was bought by Shillito's.
Interested in anything and everything related to the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats
Kevin, I love that Shillito's Perez. I would like to find that one and the Partridge Perez some day. That MacGregor Perez looks great. I had one graded recently but it was not a very nice one. Mine actually looked ok but it has a small rip/tear along one fo the borders. I mainly just wanted it slabbed. All great stuff.....

This isn't a Reds card but thought it went along with the theme...also included one of a former Giant. My daughter is learning to use her digital camera so the pictures are not real sharp....al.

I saw that Perez proof listed last week along with the Bench's. That is a nice addition to your collection.
Not a Reds card but one of my favorite, a 1984 Topps blackless card of Perez

I finally was able to locate a 1971 Johnny Bench team issue postcard in decent shape. Now if I could just find a 1968 Bench postcard.

That is nice looking Nabisco Rose. I know how hard those are to get in high grade due to the common borders. Thanks for posting.
