plain old scissors. The Ripken card is on the corner and is typically "rounded" near the staples. These two 6's were right in the middle of a couple of 10s so I'm guessing the roundness didn't flatten in the card savers.

I am looking for the 2000 Upper Deck Hitter's Club autographs Cal Ripken card. I really don't know if it exits so if you have one or even if you've seen one and can confirm the card please PM me.
Just got this back from PSA. While I'm not a Ripken registry guy (but a big Ripken/O's fan), I've been picking these 98 Chrome Golden Anniversary cards up here and there in a faint attempt to complete the set. Stars almost never come up for sale since they are #d/50 so when a raw Ripken popped up I had to pull the trigger. And since the card was perfect I had to sub it to PSA. Enjoy.

Wow... that's very pretty Wish I wasn't so broke right now!
Fixed! I emailed the Set Registry Customer Service, and they explained that the card was inadvertently added to the Basic Set recently when it should not have been. They said that this card does not qualify for the set and has since been removed.
Soooooooo why do you suppose PSA removed the 1994 Finest Cal Ripken Jr. card from the Basic Set Registry on 11/11/11? The Basic Set now shows it being 175 cards instead of 176. It took me a little while to figure out which card was removed, but I got it now.
This has to be a mistake. All of the rest of the Finest years are in there, except for the 1994. I'll email customer service and keep the forum posted...
So I guess it's gone for good... here is the response from customer service:
The card was removed from the set on Friday, it was inadvertently added when it should not have been. In the 1994 Finest set there are 3 "subsets" within the set. In the 1994 Finest set cards #201-240, Top 40 Veterans are a subset. Cal Ripken's 1994 Finest #235 falls in this category. The card does not qualify for the "basic" set.
It kind of sucks but I see their point. Oh well...
Can't believe it's been over a year since I posted here. I've had a lot change in my life and honestly haven't really bought anything since around FEB. Need a few more months before I get back into the Ripken game. But I completely intend to finish off my original goal of completing the Basic set in 10!
I have a question for you... I'm in the process of completing the 2009 Topps "RIPKEN" letter set like the one you have (below), but I'm having a very hard time finding them. So far I only have the "P" and "N". Any pointers, or extras to sell? Thanks!
Jeff. I saw your other thread with that awesome jersey and display matting and looked but I do not have any extras, sorry! Check ebay and comc and beckett marketplace daily. Thats about all I can say. Good luck!
Hate to spam this thread but I was wondering if anyone out there has a nearly complete run of raw basic Topps Ripkens they could sell to me? I have RC and 1983 already, so I don't need those. NrMt-Mt is ideal, not looking for anything for grading purposes. Just want to have a raw run of his basic topps stuff. Thanks, Jeffrey
Looking to have some custom cuts or plain custom cards built? PM me.
Just for giggles, I thought I'd post a photo of my '82 Traded Ripken. I paid too much money for it in the pre-internet age--maybe about a year before he broke Gehrig's streak--and it's still the screwdown holder it came in:
The screw-down holder is starting to get somewhat dingy (has anybody figured out whether or not these things can hold cards for decades at a time?) so the card really does not scan at all. Still, one can clearly see a print defect in the green grass about a half-inch south of the "a" in Cal's signature, and the lower-left hand corner is slightly wobbly. Still, I was curious as to how mine stacked up--what are collectors looking for as far as this particular card is concerned?
In my opinion it's worth sending in to be graded. I think centering is this card's biggest problem, and your is solid!
I bought mine back in 1987 when I was 11 years old (for $9.00). I kept it in a screw case until I subbed it in 2007 and it landed a 9! Even if I upgrade to a 10 some day, I'll never get rid of this one.
I thought you Ripken fans might want to keep these numbers for reference here in case another thread gets deleted. If you guys would prefer me to delete this post, just ask, no harm intended.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
If I ever take that 82T out of this old screw-down holder, I would hope that the colors look better--they tend to look so much better on a computer monitor than my actual copy of the card looks in real life.
The main thing you have to worry about with your card is the corners being pinched too tightly in your screw case. Look for that before subbing (if you sub it).
I have a sealed 1994 Topps Superstar Samplers pack with the 3 cards in it (Bowman, Finest, Stadium Club) that all appear to be in very nice shape from what little I can see of them. Possible PSA 9 and PSA 10 cards. However, I think the pack itself is very worthy of getting slabbed since the sealed packs themselves are so rare. In terms of value, do you think the pack is worth more as a PSA 10 or should I open it and go for at least one PSA 10 card in the pack? I would send the cellophane pack to PSA.
I also have a sealed Ripken 1986 General Mills Booklet sealed in the cellophane wrapper. Should I open that and cut it up? I am very heavily leaning toward not doing that and waiting for an already graded example. I think the Ripken would get a PSA 8 / PSA 8.5 due to centering and minor white touches on the edge and corner. The pack looks great though and I would send it to GAI for grading if I don't open it since it is slightly oversized and PSA can't grade it.

I collect PSA cards of the following: Billy Ripken Cal Ripken, Jr. 1980-2002 Cal Ripken, Sr. Hall of Fame Rookies
Does PSA even slab the 1994 Topps Superstar Samplers packs? If it were me, I would take my chances with the singles. Especially if any of them are worth even a fraction of THIS!!
I would probably leave the 1986 General Mills Booklet sealed.

Jeffrey, not sure if you received a response or not, but I'm pretty sure I can put together a run in pretty good shape. Send me a private message if interested....
I'll post a link to it when I scan it. They put it in a super oversized holder which I don't like. I'm thinking about sending it back to get a better fitting holder for it.

Wow that is awesome! By chance did PSA use something different then the mylar sleeve? I thought these were 5x7 ? Whats the difference in this and the 94 OPC Jumbos? Either holder I would be stoked because they didn't use the distracting mylar sleeve.
They did use the mylar sleeve. It just isn't easy to see in the photo. It should have been placed in a holder for the OPC Jumbos. It is slightly smaller than the OPC Jumbo though.

A huge CONGRATS to Michael Wynne for winning the "Best Modern Player Set of the Year"!! This is a major accomplishment considering how many modern player sets there are out there. WOW!!
Michael Wynne - Cal Ripken Jr. Basic Set - Best Modern Player Set of the Year In the post-1980 era, it would be hard to argue that there has been a more popular or more universally liked baseball player than Cal Ripken, Jr. He was an incredible player on the field and a class act off the field. This two-time MVP, 3,000 Hit Club member, World Series champion and Hall of Famer became known as Iron Man after breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive-games played streak in 1995. This set, which contains all the key Ripken rookies from 1982 and mainstream issues of Iron Man over the years, requires 175 total cards. What makes this set so great and worthy of recognition in 2012 is the fact that every single card is graded a PSA Gem Mint 10. A better collection of these cards, literally, does not exist.

So is that three 1990 Donruss Aqueous cards for you now or just the two? I know you had one before.
I took a look and the following have been graded:
1 BGS 7.0
1 PSA 7 (Mine)
1 PSA 8.5
I recently saw one on eBay and I know you have a least two so that makes a total of at least six. Am I missing any that have come up?

Hey Kevin,
Just the 2 for me, the one I had awhile back and the one that was on eBay recently. These 2 will probably be going off to PSA fairly soon.

Jeffrey, not sure if you received a response or not, but I'm pretty sure I can put together a run in pretty good shape. Send me a private message if interested....

I thought these were 5x7 ? Whats the difference in this and the 94 OPC Jumbos? Either holder I
would be stoked because they didn't use the distracting mylar sleeve.

Michael Wynne - Cal Ripken Jr. Basic Set - Best Modern Player Set of the Year
In the post-1980 era, it would be hard to argue that there has been a more popular or more universally liked baseball player than Cal Ripken, Jr.
