<< <i>Thats strange,If its sold out ,How can you place an order. >>
'
Casman had it right -- I ordered on Thursday, April 12, after the Mint put up the statement that orders were taken for the entire production but that additional orders would still be taken in case of cancellations. I ordered 10 and almost 100 in separate orders with the thought that would give me a better chance of getting at least one order filled.
Thanks all for clarifying the issues with what needs to stay sealed. It sounds like I can cherrypick to my heart's delight for the purposes of submitting to NGC. (Ebay buyers will beg to differ, no doubt.) As posted here and elsewhere, PCGS' current solution basically destroys the cover and also "downgrades" the coins from first day of production down to first day "of issue."
Is the product from NGC new? If so, I would think that (and the excitement over errors) could turn these Presidential covers into real winners. As others have posted, it will be interesting to see what happens with the SQ covers; and also possibly interesting that this first cover will be the only one offered before the days of the "forever stamp."
It seems that the smooth dollars were the main factor driving interest in these FDP coins. (Any other possible causes?) It would be fortuitous indeed if those few mistakes on the production line made a hit out of an otherwise almost unrelated product.
<< <i>PCGS is making a big mistake in trying to preserve the First Strike/Frist Day Issue Label on these coins. >>
I think part of the issue may be since the coin covers are a limited item and PCGS requires a bulk submission in order to receive a special insert on the presidential dollars, they don't want to get caught in a situation where the mint starts limiting how many covers can be purchased per household and therfore people would be unable to submit bulk cover orders for certification.

They made a special effort to have a 20th Anniversary label for an item that had a household limit of 10, so I don't understand why that would keep them from offering a First Day of Mintage label.
<< <i>They made a special effort to have a 20th Anniversary label for an item that had a household limit of 10, so I don't understand why that would keep them from offering a First Day of Mintage label. >>
Because unlike the 20th anniversary sets, the special insert on the presidential dollars requires a bulk order of at least 100 coins. A compromise would be to slab the whole cover without a minimum requirement.

All my Boxes of 50's have the New Postal Tape that was placed just before shipping in an attempt to cover up the US Mint Label that tells you what Box # it is.
What is the best way to remove the water-activated Tape?
Rookie Joe did a great job getting the tape off, My attempt, not so good, not that I place any premium on the box, but just wanted to know the #, which was 891 of 1000, and to make a point!!! I was accused of making up the entire label thing by a member claiming he had "contacts within the mint", pathetic!!! I'm gonna try a blow-torch on the rest of the boxes...
the ones I got have the zipper. However I would not send it without putting the white envelope inside a bubble mailer.
Steve >>
I had a temporary "brain fart" about the "zipper" I was thinking about a zipper that opens & closes & not a mailing zipper. You are correct. The white sleeves all have "zippers." Mailing them in a bubble mailer is the only way to go. It looks more professional & not like a cheap home-made shipping package.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
I've noticed a lot of the bidders on these have 0 (or near it) feedbacks. I think that means a lot of newbs are buying them. Probably from the hype the smooth edges got. However, that should make the prices go up as collectors have to compete with newbs.

My order I placed on 04/05 for 5 I got on 04/19 My order I placed on 04/09 for 10 shipped on 04/19 My order I placed on 04/13 for 10 Backordered. Expected to ship on 05/05/2007.
Just incase anyone is woundering about there orders.
One of the guys just stopped in my office and had a box in his trunk, he made a big Ole mess all over the carpet with the gooey tape, but it's Box 910.
What numbers have we heard from? It seems they have jumped from 1 to 9 and then into the 100's. Probably many of the numbers lower than 100 were opened to fill the less-than-50 orders. Can we try to get an idea of how many under-100 numbers (a) have been received, and, (b) are left sealed?
using the sac set as a barometer and nothing else (like people getting sick of mint junk), i'd say with only 50k of these sets, they should creep up to around 80-100 bucks a set eventually.
<< <i>And the George Washington FDoP features both Mints. Am I correct in assuming that a Denver version of the Sac was not offered? >>
looks like they did just come out from the mint with p mint. i have two of them. thought it was p+d because the envelope is turned around in one of the sets. they're both p though.
<< <i>the cover market is already falling apart on ebay....

do these guys know how to sell things on ebay......? >>
That is Floridabill, I think he wants to downsize his $30,000 investment. (I agree with him) I only have 108 covers and can wait a while on mine. I just listed a box of 50 and 18 @$34 a cover but everyone else under listed me by $10-$12 a cover. I guess mine will expire or I will change it to a dutch @ $28 a set?
<< <i>I am just going to wait until CW and NN anounce the sellout and see what happens. I still have my 30 day window to return them to the mint. >>
I do not think you will have to worry about returning them.
I believe they will stay around $25 a cover for singles.
Right now there is a lot of sellers holding a bunch and expected a quick jump and flip. There is too many boxes listed at very fair prices 50 @ $1188 is only $24 a cover. A small move in demand and these will get gobbled up.
It has only been 10 days since the sell out. I think May 1st will be a better time frame for speculation.
this is what we can always expect from our fellow members, no concern if the market can absorb the quantities they are listing, rather just DUMP and RUN.
ebay will not absorb anywhere near the quantities now listed in sealed boxes, there is no where near the demand for these things unlike other more popular products
thin markets get hammered with sellers out there trying to unload quick. I'm sure there will be others under cutting them very soon. I expect to see other sealed cases listed for $1000-1100 tonight.
those 2000 qty purchasers will start to sweat - tying up your money in covers is not that smart when SAE's are right around the corner.

What is the best way to remove the water-activated Tape?
Dampen it? Hair Dryer to heat up Glue?
Any ideas?
