Just out of curiosity, why aren't the 85 packs in a box?

Good point. I doubt Steve would ship a complete box that way.

Zef, Could be the reason that everyone complained that the '85s had been "sleeping with the fishes"!.

Gary. I would like to recommend that the '85 box you receive from Steve Hart be distributed amongst those in the rip as a sign of good faith, at your shipping cost.

Should be easy enough to do as you have all of our addresses!

Ha! We were thinking the same thing. The '85s were water damaged, right? BBCE would have caught that, right?

Not always. Steve actually told me that could totally have been on him which is why he was willing to replace it.

Wow. Got home from work and started reading the other post and just finished. Pretty overwhelmingly convincing, and a huge disappointment because the rips have been a lot of fun. But all the packs cannot have been searched - I pulled this from the 81 pack.

    Excellent point.

I got a Dorsett RC and there has been a Payton, Largent, Campbell, and Rice pictured so far.

There certainly has been NO concrete evidence but the findings have been pretty damning. Especially tied with Gary editing MANY of his posts, WTF is with that?

Zef, The only post that I know of that Gary stopped was his offer on the '84 football packs. All of the other speculated edits were from myself on all of the pictures I replaced by going to photobucket. The rant from Gary about someone PM'ing him in regards to making money on the '78 rip is still 14 entries from the bottom of page 1.

It's a PSA 8 at best (bottom corner is frayed) --- but it was still fun pulling it from a pack.

Everything else in the entire bust was complete crap.

Thanks, I'll PM you my address. The Hampton card is 1981 Topps. Dan grew up close fairly to my hometown, so I met him a couple of times. I appreciate the gesture. I'll also be happy to vouch for the postmark I get, in case there are still people who believe you are Gary from California in disguise.

Did anyone verify with Steve the basics of this box break? That he did ship these boxes out and that he shipped the 85 packs without a box and he offered to send a new 85 box? And he was out of 1978 boxes? If anyone is friends with the DA card world folks, we could ask them if they shipped a 78 box last week as well just to verify or reject small parts the various allegations.

I opened all of my original break packs now except the 76/77 packs that I left unopened. I do not see evidence of tempering on the 77 pack, but I'm slightly skeptical of the 76 pack. I think I swapped my 79 pack into my raw pack personal collection as an upgrade, and if so, it looks perfectly legit. Sadly, I did not closely analyze the other packs I've already opened, so I can't pass accurate judgment on those, and the wrappers are now mixed in a large stack. If Steve wants to view a 76 pack unopened to analyze, I'll be happy to send mine over so we can begin to settle this, since IMO the seal is not great on it.

I didn't open those 2/3 packs mentioned above, so my results are not complete, but I can at least say my results were not great. The highest book value cards were a Lawrence Taylor In Action card and an 84 Marcus Allen, that either might sell for $1 on the street. But, I'm not really unhappy with the card selection. I'm only unhappy if this whole pack rip turns out to be a sham.

    A few points...

Waiting on Gary or Steve about the 85 "box" and I am pretty sure that he was out of 78 boxes.

Hopefully Steve will let us know if he will inspect unopened packs of people to check them.

As for your findings in your packs, it truly is a crap shoot opening ONE pack from a given box/case. I have opened tons of packs from tons of boxes and cases and many had nothing of value or the whole pack o/c etc...

I don't know if Gary is guilty of anything here, but it certainly doesn't look good. As he has proclaimed, he is an unopened 80s junkie, so what is up with the partial 78bb vending box from NESC? Most here know they are 4SC's dumping id of stuff that won't grade. That tied to the then impending 78 rip is a little coincidental.

And the bar wax collage? He needed 36 84 fb wrappers a week before he suggested a 84 fb case rip?

Most of the findings hardly would "convict" Gary in the court of law, but there are too many instances for most people to think he is on the up and up.

It is stupid to think he could/would search every pack, logistically that just can't happen. But one box out of a case, or 6 packs of the 4-5 key years in this rip could have been what happened.

Who knows, and we will never know. I do know this, Gary has done his last rip on the CU forum. For better or worse, the torch will have to be passed.

Another thing to note...Search for Bob's hockey rip. Gretzky's and HOF rcs were flying off the hook! How many Payton's have been posted in this thread? The set sizes are about the same and the per box #'s would approx add up.

The coincidences are abound. Would Iraq hang him from the evidence? Probably not. Would a US jury find him guilty? Again, probably not. But should trust be lost? Well, you have to answer that for yourself. I know that I will never buy something that Gary is responsible for shipping again.

    1976 Topps Football Wrappers:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320079169926

These wrappers were bought within 2 days of the time the payments here were finalized. What a convenient time to be creating a "bar tabletop" of 1976 Topps football and 1984 Topps football wrappers, or hatching a brilliant business plan to sell wrappers, lots, and boxes together, or whatever the reason of the day is for this disgrace. Zef, if you do eventually talk to Steve, mention I'm willing to send in my 76 pack anytime with a postpaid return method and pre-addressed label, to make it easy. That said, I don't want to drag him into this unless he offers. He's too good a person for us to demand more of his time and drag him deeper into this debacle.

    More 76 wrappers:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320082003468
    1984 Wrappers:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330082925816

These 76/77/84/81 card lots were probably bought too late to be in our packs, but they should show up in packs for sale on eBay soon, under a new used ID:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330090827358
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330090827370

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300081781815

1976 and 1977 wrappers bought right as our lots were shipping, but possibly too late to be in our shipments:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130081248365
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130081248697

It is amazing that the bar table top design being planned has wrappers from some of the most expensive packs from our rip, and was being built right as we were planning and ripping here!

Oh, and now that it is probably done, please post a picture of that beautiful wax wrapper-themed bar you have!

    Thank you Zef!

Myself and the others that have hosted wax rips shouldn't be grouped in with 80's.

It's disheartening to see some of the comments about "middlemen" and "only if Steve Hart ships" this is really not fair to us other hosts.

TO GARY!.....You are quilty as sin! Shame on you for bringing this BS to our boards. I hope you are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Answer the questions and stop playing the victim. And F**K you for that BS about donating to that kids charity. Show some proof that you aren't the scumbag who opened packs and sent reseals out in their place.

You're a thief and a cheat and a criminal. You better get your story straight for the Feds pal!

Tom - I'm not attacking other board members. Part of the reason why I'm so mad is because this scum has taken advantage of all of us. He's invaded our little sanctuary if you will and pissed all over it.

Someone mentioned "divide and conquer". I suspect that's his MO and a few of us are buying into it.

I've seen enough evidence. What are we 24 hours into this and he's
done what? Delete posts and offer a couple refunds? He's just trying to cover his azz to make this go away. He hasn't proved he is innocent. Please don't tell me innocent till proven quilty. Look at the facts for proof.

As I start my next 200 posts I offer the best of my packs.
No Montanas, Elways, Marinos, or Paytons.
    However four running back rookies.
Two presently in the HOF. Another an absolute lock. And the fourth a possibilty someday.

    image

Opps, I completely forgot that Sanders was all ready in the HOF. Explains why I collect primarily baseball.

Looking through the scans posted I have come up with the following tally so far.
Payton, Largent, Allen(2), Campbell, Sanders(2), Dorsett, Montana, Rice(2), Elway, Dickerson, and Randy White.

That would be 10 of the 19 possible rookies in this break that have a PSA 10 value of $300 or more.
The ones that have yet to be posted are Too Tall Jones, Webster, Newsome, Taylor, Long, Moon, Reggie White, Marino, and Young.
Of course their conditions vary in our scans. I was never a collector of football during this time period so I do not know if our results and card conditions are typical. Some of the missing rookies may still be in the packs of those who could resist the urge to rip on arrival.

Still questions do, and should linger concerning the integrity of this rip. Hopefully some answers will come to the light of day.

I got an 86 young. an 82 Lott and a 81 Winslow. they wont be 10's. maybe a 9 but most likely an 8. which is pretty normal. that is what most of my cards have graded that i pulled from wax, cello or rax back in the day the were sitting on the shelf for say 35-50 cents a pack.

I don't think anyone has pulled a 1984 Jackie Slater or Dwight Stephenson yet. They are both HOF rc's

I got a Stephenson as well as a 1989 Sanders..

I live in Ohio so you can imagine my excitement when I got all these Ohio teams:

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

He must have left those in because he thought no one would want them.

I might as well post the rest of my rips since it's 'tainted' and folks won't be posting much I think. Nice centering on the Jackie Slater in my '84, but not much more.....

The only pack I opened was the 89 score (got Bruce Smith & Roger Craig All pro's like Arny).

I'll volunteer to send my 76 thru 81 packs to PSA for grading. I've been collecting 70's wax packs since 1997 and IMO they look legit.

My concern is that the packs with the key cards showing were pulled out before the random selections took place. I can clearly see both the bottom card (Lem Barney) and the top card (Fred Dryer) on my 76 pack. Also, if the sequence for pulling the Payton RC is known, that can be used to pull packs out.

So are we still ripping our packs
or has everyone lost interest in light of recent developments?

Some of these from the 1980's are basically only 3 or 4 dollar packs anyway
and the 1989 Score packs can't be messed with so I was thinking that I'd go ahead and rip and post scans.

If some feel that would be in bad taste,
let me know and I'll just open them under the bed with only Cocoa my pet monkey looking on ...
