  • I was happy with my '77 pack. The Bradshaw and Foreman were nice to get.

I also got a Jets checklist and a J.J. Thomas for the Steelers.

<< <i>And if you think the right edge looks funny, you are right. It really looks like it was sheet cut by someone who doesn't know how to cut a sheet. >>

    Jordan,

I think that card came from an ultra rare Topps hobby sheet cut wax pack. They got a monkey to cut cards from a sheet and then inserted them in packs. They usually came wrapped in Wacky Pack wrappers but this ultra rare version came in the normal Topps football wrapper.

Congrats on the rare pull. If I were you, I'd get it graded immediately and list it on eBay.

I got nothing worth noting out of the '78 pack...

Well, my 2 lots finally made it across the pond to jolly old England. The box was very well packaged for the journey. (Thank you again Gary!) The Royal Mail even put the Global Priority box in a plastic pouch to keep out the damp. Most of the packs still smelled quite musty as others have mentioned. Since I am having to play catch-up to you guys I started ripping. I didn't get very far because the first pack contained these:

    image

I had to scan them and share with the group!

    Now back to ripping!

Is it just me or does the Fred Dryer card scream "So easy, a caveman could do it" lol

You guys are really pulling some great looking cards. Congrats.

  • Here are my '78s. Not much here, but I remember Rolf Benirschke -- he was money. image

  • I won't be opening the 76/79 packs, but here are some from 77/78. A few of my packs I'll open here I swapped with some in my raw personal collection, as upgrades (the 77 pack pictured here, for example).

    image

My packs seem to have survived the USPS mistreatment so far. But, as with others, my 85 packs looks waterlogged, and the gum feels disintegrated in there. I didn't open anything until today!
  • I'm missing the Charlie Brown card from the '84 Topps set. If anyone gets it, I'd like to buy it -- please let me know. I don't know off hand, but I think it is #387 or something close to that.

Thanks for all of the comments fella's. When you see my follow-on scans you will see that fortune only visited me once during my 2-lot rip.

Lee - I agreed more with your original comment before your edit. I am a Texan living in London for the next 2 years, 5 months, 15 days, and 4 hours! At least I still have my collection safely back home in Atlanta, to visit when I travel back home! (knock wood)

Zef - The sweetness is slightly smaller l/r than half of the other 19 cards in the 2-pack lot. It appears to me that one of the packs cards were cut slighlty smaller (<1/32) l/r than the cards in the other pack.

Rick - I LOL'd when I saw the spec's on Griese in that '79 card! Man are those Dexter glasses or what? Nice centering on those '79 leader cards however!

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Here's the 1978s...

Highlighted by none other than Jesus' less-heralded, 5th cousins' nephew, (twice removed), Chuck Crist. Appropriately enough, he played for the Saints.

The Griese would be nice, except for a nick on the lower left edge.

Another pack of minor stars for me... Griese, Riggins, McKenzie, Tatum, Greenwood.

You can also see the gum outline on the McGee.

The 1979s were a little underwhelming...

Derrick Gaffney? Is this Jabar Gaffney's dad?

Nice RC of Ricky Bell. From what I understand, he was a very good RB for a little while, who died young.

What software do you guys use to get those nice big card scans? I have tried scanning at 150 & 300 DPI, but no matter what I do, when I get the 9 card scan down to 50kb, they look minature. Any help would be welcome!

Rick, Sorry you feel that you were scrwed. The unfortunate thing is the jury has made it's decision and the plaintif has yet to defend his case.

I however, scanned these cards, and will carry on! It is not much to look at, but it is all I have while I wait out my stay in England. Where my wife tells me: "Only a few more years honey!"
