You can have the Payton as long as I can pull a PSA 10 1977 Topps Leroy Selmon!

Too bad you don't live in a big city like Cookeville. Mine arrived today. I have no will power so I've opened about half. I'll go ahead and share what I've discovered. The cards are pack fresh. The one 85 pack I opened seemed like it had been exposed to humidity/water as the cards were a little warped. All of the other packs so far have had the problem you see below. The packs could not have been packed any better (except maybe flat instead of on edge), and it's impossible to know when it happened, so I'm not complaining. Just wanted to let everyone else know that your pack with corner dings may not be limited to one year.
I had the same problem with the 1985 pack TomTim...Definitely water damaged...About half the cards were stuck together and stained..
I did not however have major issues with corner dings...There were a few, but nothing across the board...So there's probably the lone 1986 Rice RC..lol

My 1985 pack was the same. I did not have any corner problems except for 1989 score. The 1986 centering is just plain nasty in my pack too. I will scan and post as we are ripping.
My best centering was 1979. I think i have a shot at a few 9's and maybe a 10

I will be posting as the days pass, but I had to open my packs....all I can say is that I started out great, but the rest of you should have great packs the rest of the way based on my rippin'!
Here's the best three from my GREAT '76 pack with a very nice Randy White rookie and a nice 2nd year Lynn Swann!
* '72 BASEBALL #15 100% * C. PASCUAL BASIC #3 * T. PEREZ BASIC #4 100% * L. TIANT BASIC #1 * DRYSDALE BASIC #4 100% * MAGIC MASTER #4/BASIC #3 * PALMEIRO MASTER/BASIC #1 * '65 DISNEYLAND #2 * '78 ELVIS PRESLEY #6 * '78 THREE'S COMPANY #1
Arny those 76's look great! Tom Tim I am sorry to hear about the corner dings man that sucks! Was your box damaged when you got it?
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
Im sorry to hear about the corners tom tim. Was your box damaged when you recieved it? Those are some great pulls though tom tim didyou save any of the good rookies for the rest of us
TomTim - Someone at the Post Office dropped your box or it fell out of a truck or something.
A few years ago I mailed a complete set in a 500 count box like the one my packs just came in. Had always mailed and received sets packed that way with never any problems until that one time.
Buyer returned the set because every card was dinged on the same corner. Someone at the Post Office caused the damage, but their insurance wouldn't cover it.
"They all look fine to me. What's the problem?" said the idiot at the Post Office ...
The box looks okay. I wouldn't be surprised if my wife "accidentally" dropped it when she saw _another_ baseball card box show up. I tried to beat her to the mailbox and lost! I'm not sure if I should be happy with all the rookies or not. I was very happy with the players I got.
Well, I had no dings and no great rookies...Figures doesnt it???lol
As bad as opening a pristine pack where every card but one looks like a PSA 10, and that one card is what you are searching for...lol

I opened up my 85 pack and basically the cards are ruined. It also happened to be a pack that yeilded me a Payton and a Dent Rookie. The scanner did not pick up the water damage, but it is there.

I'm not sure where we are on the schedule but I'll start with 1976. I actually opened them all last night in reverse order with my wife taking video.
WARNING: DO NOT EAT THE GUM I just had to try it
I mentioned that I opened a 1976 pack 22 years ago ealier in the thread. I still have the cards which are nice NM-MT+. Well I opened this 1976 pack and the sequence overlaped with the pack I opened 22 years ago!!! No stars but nice cards. So I basically got the same pack.
I'll wait to share the rest as we go ... 1977 was my favorite
I posted mine because I thought that the water damage would show up. I plan on following the rip schedule from this point forward.

Finally scanne da few tonight..Sticking w/ the schedule, here's my only rookie from the 76 set...Somebody's still got a Payton waiting for them..
This would probably grade PSA 8.

Hey guys steve got back to me about the 85 packs. he will either give me a refund or send me a new box when he gets then in next week. what do you guys think. I can either give everyone a paypal refund for 2.75 or collect .75 for shipping to ship everyone a new 85 pack. let me know what you guys think.
Plus This is the first rip I had to cheat and rip ,my packs open. Pulled a couple goodies and took em to the show today and had them bgs raw reviewed. Ill post em in the morn.
Ok here were the best three pulls of my 80s packs. I am getting my 76-79 packs graded. Anyways took them with me today and had beckett give em a raw review what grades do you think they gave me
I ripped them all right away like I said I would. Pretty much crap all the way down for me, but thems the risks. The best card I pulled was an Anthony Munoz 82 RC with gum firmly attached. I had the same experience with the 85s, but I pulled a potential 10 in the non-damaged part of the pack. Whatever you all want to do is fine, but since that yielded one of the only potential valuable cards in my lot, I'm willing to skip the refund/trade-in.
80s, I'd just as soon rip another pack of 85s cuz they're probably beautiful cards, but that's a lot more work for you so I'm flexible.
Here's a few from my 76 pack. By the way, I ripped all but 2 of my packs and other than the 85's the condition of all the cards was excellent. Certainly a few with centering issues, but other than that they have been absolutely rock solid.
It seems many people ripped right away. I have done that in every rip I have been a part of. I have a problem. I like to rip unopened packs. They simply cannot sit on my desk and WAIT to be ripped. Not that I don't enjoy this group purchase but I am going to rip the packs as soon as I get them. I will wait to share the results with the group, but I'm gonna rip. I'm glad I am not alone.
I said before that I had 2 HOF rcs, I actually have 3. I didn't put one right into a CS1 because if centering issues so I didn't pull it out.
Either way, I am satisfied with the rip and could care less what happens with the 85's. I know Gary undertakes a lot for this, so I would love to see him get the 85 box and rip it and show us the highlights.
Yes, I adhered to the rip schedule as follows. Box arrived in PO Box was brought into house and opened and all packs were ripped open. I just couldn't wait to receive all of the nice commons that I got along with the water damaged 85 pack. These are the best 2 cards I got out of all of the packs. Can't get the size correct to post pictures. Not worth showing a micut Singletaary RC or Marino Passing Leader.
Its not worth the .75 for a replacement pack of 85's to me, so Gary can get and rip the whole box as far as I'm concerned.
Hopefully I will have better luck in the basketball rip, but I will adhere to my rip schedule. rip upon arrival.
Gary, although I'd love to rip another pack of '85s (I'm putting the set together ), I can see that it's going to be a hassle for you. So, just get the box...rip it....and post the rip for us to enjoy!
At least that's my vote.

My box arrived on Friday at 3:45. By 3:50 I had ripped the 76 pack. At 3:55 my ride to Columbus had arrived, so the ret remained firmly sealed. Returning last night around 8:40 I spent about 50 minutes catching up with the wife and daughter, then rip city. I think the only cure for my affliction my be total isolation. Somewhere there must be an island that has no internet connections and does not receive delieries from USPS or UPS. I would ony take my 72BB with me, maybe the 84 Donruss as well, those A&G cards are too sweet not to pack them too,........
80s....I agree with the others that you should keep the 85 box. Of course I have hidden motives. If you rip them, then your addiction to rip will grow and you will purchase more wax thus freeing me from more temptation.

Ok guys it looks like the consensus is to get the 85 box and rip it. I think I can handle that So soon as I get it I will post a 85 live rip thread and have some fun. And again steve said in his email he was extremly sorry about the condition of the 85 packs.
go ahead and rip it. doesnt make sense to send out one pack with the care it would take. maybe you could send some of the better cards to those you didnt get as lucky as others on the rip. i got some nice rookies so i dont need any but i am sure others wont be as lucky.

I got my packs on Saturday, but like some others noticing damage, my box was crushed on one side, and a couple other box corners were a little crumpled as well. I don't know how the packs fared, as I haven't opened any yet. We may need to find a way to pack things to negate future post office abuse. I assume the only reasonable thing that works is usage of larger boxes (meaning more bubble wrap, or crushed newspaper and a higher shipping cost) or double-boxing, which would also be a little more expensive per shipment, but maybe worth it.
I got my packs on friday and the cards were in good shape besied the 85 (water damage). Ive ripped all of them and will post a scan of some goodies in a couple days.
I will definatly have a little talk with my post office about the damaged boxes. In 5 years ive never had a problem with them but a little talk with them couldn't hurt. and out of all the rips so far this is the first time we had a problem. Thats ok from now on and future rips I will double box them also . This should take care of any problems

Well guys your packs should be loaded. I have the luck of a pregnant nun, Absolutly no Rc / Hofer's. Just the luck of the draw.
I had just a few dinged corners, a lot of off centers.
