  • This is the hardest part waiting for the boxes to show upimage
  • If you decide to do this again i would like to get in on it - its a great idea to spread the cost out over 30 or so people & everyone has the same chance at a great pull!

When do you think the packs will be go out from your place to ours?
I will be out of the city through Saturday the 24th.
If you think it will be before then, I'll give you the address where I will be staying.
Or if you don't mind holding on to mine until the 23rd or 24th that will work.
Either way thanks for all the hard work

Thanks and let me know which you prefer

OK, here's my heart attack for the day. I log into my PayPal account, and a quick scan of my recent activity shows a $155 payment to, and I quote, "The Beer Bong Shop".

Well I was certain someone had hacked into my PayPal account. Imagine my relief when I looked into the "details" and saw a subject of "football packs" in the details.

Now, you gotta admit it takes a lot of trust to have The Beer Bong Shop package your packs, one of which will contain a perfectly-centered 1976 Walter Payton, another of which will contain a gem Montana rookie.

    I trust you Gary! image
  • Dig dug Im not sure still waiting on the boxes to get from bbce an dacw to me. Im hoping by friday at the latest and I'll get them all seperated and boxed this weekend. So most likely will be getting them out Monday 19th They will be going out priority mail so 2-3 days after that. I dont know digdug I could hold yours for a couple extra days before i send yours.
Of course everybody I will ship sooner if I get the boxes sooner. I ve got a itch for wax too I know everyones waiting eagerly.

    I actually noticed that too.

I woke up the Monday after the Super Bowl and saw that I had sent the paymetn to: "The Beer Bong Shop."

I wondered if in my drunken stupor after the Bears loss that I ordered something crazy off the net. I was a little excited to see what showed up, kinda like my own little Christmas.

But I soon put 2 and 2 together and realized that the $155 went for the FB rip and NOT to my next night of debauchery. Oh well. I'll get 'em next time.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

SWEET! Not sure about UPS, but I would bet it would cost at least double if not triple to send 12 packs UPS vs. USPS. I'm okay waiting an extra day.
  • Just finished getting everything boxed up. Packs will be in the mail tues mornimage

  • WOW seeing that 1984 pack sure brings back memories. I went to my very first card show (I was 10 almost 11) in the early summer of 1985. Stan Musial was there signing autographs at $5 ea but no one was getting them. My dad stood there and talked with Stan Musial for like 2 hours since Musial had nothing to do. I bought a Fran Tarkenton RC (nice NM to NM-MT) for $30. There was a guy selling boxes of 1984 Topps (with that black X on top) for $4.00 ea!! I had spent all my cash so I went to ask my dad for a loan of $4 (or maybe even $8). I explained what a great deal it was (vs. $0.25 per pack = $9 a box) and how you could get a Dan Marino RC in there that was worth a whole $3.00 by itself! My dad asked the seller how many boxes he had and bought all remaining 11 boxes for me for $44. It was blast to open those 11 boxes. I remember telling my dad how that Dan Marino card would be worth $100 one day (not joking here). At one time I had over 20 Marino cards all put in a 9 pocket holder page (front to back to save money on the 9 pocket pages). Years later the sets I made from those boxes helped pay a little bit towards college. Anyway that why I love 1984 Topps and will someday put together a PSA 9 set. I can't wait to open one up!!

  • Thanks again 80sjunkie. These rips are your "flux capacitor". You've helped me travel back in time to a feeling I thought was forever lost.
  • has anyone come up with the rip schedule yet?
  • detroitfan2detroitfan2 Posts: 3,342 ✭✭✭✭
Does anyone prefer to start with the "newest" and work to the "oldest" (i.e. open the 1976 pack as the grand finale)?

I'm probably gonna bust mine all at once because I have no willpower, and just post the scans by year along with you guys. I can't sleep knowing there's unopened wax somewhere in my house. Often I'm tempted to tear down my walls and dig up the floorboards on the off chance something's hidden. I have a problem.

I would have to do the same thing....

Wish I had gotten in on this one but I was broke when it came up. If you guys have fun (which I'm sure you will) and this works out, I would definitely be interested in joining in on the next one. Heck, I had a great time busting a 93 SP box and 88T rack case. image

Good luck with the breaks guys. I am jealous already!

  • Hopefully everyone will get there packs this weekend. Posted the rip schedaul at the top of thread. We will start with the 76 and work our way up. Dont forget to share some scans of your pulls for us all to enjoyimage

I sent my 76 pack in to be graded so I hope someone pulls the payton rookie so I wont have to be tempted to rip mine someday
  • I received my box yesterday. Another awesome packing/shipping job. I pulled the '76 pack just to look at it and it was beautiful. I'm torn on grading/ripping at this point. Thanks again for bringing back my childhood. 1976 was the first year I really collected football cards and I had at least 5 Payton rookies. However, between my cousin and I we did not get a single Jerry Shirk card out of probably 3000 cards!! I remember coloring in all the boxes on the team checklist cards except for the tight end on Browns or Bengals, I don't remember. Anyways, traded all of my 1976 - 1979 football cards for the same in baseball. Looking forward to getting 1 "Sweetness" back.

I hate to ruin everyone's weekend but I am going to get the Payton and it will grade a 9 to allow me to sell it and upgrade my HOF Rookie set.
