Thinks are improving with star quality but no home runs yet. Fun to open the packs and have that anticipation though.

    My 80's:

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Luckily for me, the Carew is probably in the best condition of all of the cards in the pack.

  • Lost my enthusiasm for scanning. 80's pack was a bunch of commons with 2 that were centered.

Never even heard of any of the 80's players in my pack. Of course that set is probably the worst ever made in terms of valuable cards.

    "Molon Labe"

  • I forgot to scan my off-center 79 Yaz. The I always pull schmidt cards. Maybe I should buy a 73 pack. Here are the 2 nice 80's and the Yaz

  • Interesting thread guys. I enjoyed watching what everyone pulled. That 80's Buddy Bell Rangers card reminded me of something. I have that same card and another one exactly like it with him listed with the BlueJays. Was that a common error? Has anyone ever seen that before?
  • Based on what has been scanned there are still some big cards out there. Still waiting to see the Henderson! Maybe even a great Ozzie rookie? I got my motivation back and will post my 80 and 82's tonight.

According to the 2006 Beckett Almanac, both versions are valued the same. I think the reason for the Blue Jays error was probably because whoever was in charge of putting the team labels on the cards saw Mr. Bell's blue cap with a T and thought, "T for Toronto, Blue cap for Blue Jays". It really makes sense how this error happened if you think about it.

Overall the centering on my 82's were pretty decent. I was kinda hoping for a "Blackless" but maybe someone else will get lucky.

couldn't take it any longer....opened the 77 pack...big disappointment....the cards were warped......also all OC. Little better luck with the 78's and 79's....the Bench was top card in the pack and has wax stain and lower right corner ding.....Sutter OC top to bottom....others not bad....image

My '82s were not bad. The gloss is very good on these cards. There were a few HOFers in the pack.

There's no doubt that 82 was the highest quality Topps produced in many years. Excellent centering, gloss, design - very nice!

is it me, or is the 82 Fleer set THE UGLIEST SET EVER (since 88 donruss)???? The design is cheap and EVERY photo is out of focus. Poor Ripken even looks like a blur on the card. Though i'm sure the Littlefield error is still holding value. isn't it? ain't picked up a guide in 12 years.......
  • Here is my 1982 Fleer Pack. These cards were tough to keep from moving around on my scanner bed. Pretty nice Carew in the pack.

This is the worst pack of cards I have opened as far as star cards, but the condition of these cards is fantastic. Too bad it is probably the ugliest set in this group.

Now that we're a little ways into this, if anyone has pulled any nice Jim Gantner cards, I'd be interested in them. So far I haven't seen any and I sure haven't pulled any. Still hopeful, though!

No scans yet, but a run down.

The 77s were stained, water logged and horrible. UGH

The 78s were fresh, centered and gorgeous. A few 10 possibilities.

The 79s were OC but sharp, Garvey was the best.

1980 was the best so far - no great players but great memories!

now that I think about it my 77's must have been water stained also....that's what caused the warping.......also Did Someone Say Checklists???? I must have the bonus pack, it had two in it!!!!

Haven't chimed in yet, basically because no scanner=boring posts. Needless to say, didn't pull any RC's, didn't pull anything actually. But who cares. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. On another note....

My 77's were for sure wet at some point. Seems to be the consensus of everyone here. Any recourse?
  • My scanner is down also. I guess $39.95 only gets you so much. Had a couple nicely centered '77 & '78 commons and a nice '77 Fred Lynn. Only other card of note was an off centered '78 Ryan record breaker.
  • About the 77 packs it seems some think they were waterdamaged at one point. I'll give steve a call to see what he says but i gave the empty box a good look over again right now and the box is beautiful and no evidence of waterdamageimage
  • 82 Fleer had nothing really spectacular. Scans will follow later

Wow, I pulled absolutely nothing out of my '82 Topps and Fleer. But, I did pull a Ganter from the Fleer. It's centered decently, but a rough cut on the left side of it. I'll post a scan tomorrow.

  • I have been pulling crap! I'm not even going to scan anything else until I pull a decent star card!
77's probably had water damage, 79's were in great shape and 80's didn't have much gloss or color to them (might be the printing for that year, I have a lot of 80's like that).
Still hoping for nice Mattingly and Clemens RC.
  • Got behind again nothing in my 82 donruss worth scanning but my 82 fleer pack was nice except for the wax on the back

I like the design of the 82 Topps, but man some of those photos are so faded/unfocused looking. Same thing for the 82 Fleer.
  • I knew or hoped someone would pull the Ripken. It couldn't be more fitting. A very just reward for all the work of this pack rip. I will gladly trade you for that Ripken if I pull the Mattingly

I am not posting any of the 80s Topps as it was a "who's not" of good cards.

Here are the better of the 1982 rips, which is not too much:
