I've been waiting for this one for a long time. A nicely centered PSA 7 Dawson. One of the nicest 7's I own..

    Grumble...grmphmhpgrmnphs...

I was the underbidder...worst part, I asked if he had a BIN on it at the start of the auction and he said $200. I agreed to the price and asked where to send payment. Then he never replied to me. That is one stellar looking 7 Dave. I'm just bitter I didn't win it. image

Looks like an 8 to me. Is it worth re-submitting?

Maybe in July we'll get a Training Camp special like the baseball guys did. They should be finished up with my 200 card sub by then.

Great pick up on that Dawson Dave!
Such a nice card that I had to check myself to keep from bidding on it. image

Thought I had the best centered one in a 7, but yours beats it. Mine's on the right below :

Twice a day, time permitting. Usually at night after dinner while winding down. Love this thread is the bottom line.

Who did you get the Motley from, was that Rose City Sports, Will J?

Thats funny, Will sold those cards for me on consignment. You got a great deal on it.

Funny, I bought a Hickerson card from you, you spent the money on a card from me. Great symbiotic relationship here

Nice pickups Dave! I'm still trying to find a Groza in a 6 and a Fears in a 7, now that the 8's are $275-350.

I have a few other upgrades coming in, I'll hit you up if any of them would help you out.

<< <i>Funny, I bought a Hickerson card from you, you spent the money on a card from me. Great symbiotic relationship here >>

Yep, It's circular.....or something like that.

I thought it was a great deal on the Motley as well. After 20 cent listing day, I had about 1K in my paypal account. I have successfully spent half of it. I still need to find a nice PSA 8 Payton RC. I had a very nice one that I paid $180 for, turned around and sold it for $225 through a BIN, and now the prices have skyrocketed. I will be lucky to get a centered 8 for $250. Oh well..Live and Learn.

Anyone going to the National this year? I have been to the last 4. I have a baby due in 4 weeks, but I think I have talked my wife into making the road trip with me. Cleveland is only a 4 hour drive for me. We will be bringing our 8 year old boy, and leaving the baby with the grandparents. Can't wait.

Anyway, I would love to meet up with any of you if you are planning on attending.

    Nice cards Dave.

Do you have those cards in hand yet? From the scans, your Groza looks sharper than your Motley. Is that just the scans playing tricks on me?

Halftime? I don't need the whole stinkin' half time, I have to take a leak and make a sandwich in that fifteen minutes too! If you've ever seen Bernie Mac doing "The original kings of comedy"... "3 minutes, that's all I'm givin' ya... that's all the **** I got!" I love that line. image

Yes, this thread did just morph... So I'll digress.

Congrats to all that are expecting. I'm expecting a little girl within the next couple of weeks. Wife had some pains last night and was up for 3 hours, thought I was making the trip to the hospital not but a few hours after I made my post. Did everyone elses wives get a little "weird" during the last trimester? Mine is kinda forgetful and even gets a little....um....confused sometimes. lol Must be all the brain cells traveling to the baby. image

Dave-looks like there is a couple of Payton 8's on the bay right now. Including a BGS/BVG 8 which might be worth the gamble if the price stays down.

Back to cards, Anyone had any football subs pop recently? I'm still waiting on my modern bulk sub, only logged on 5/2 so it's probably going to be awhile...I will have some extras that those of you reading this thread will be interested in...

Congrats to Marc (MAD) on the recent adds to the 1990s Team of the Decade set..PSA 10 Shannon Sharpe and PSA 10 Leroy Butler RCs..Those are super tough to get PSA to buy off on as PSA 10's..It took me forever to get mine (that I no longer own)...

Speaking of the Shannon Sharpe 10, I'm in the market for one. I have a bunch to send off to PSA at some point, but it's a crapshoot whether I'll get a 10 or not (the corners are all rounded image Seriously though, what do 10's go for?

I would definatly say that the 5's shown are better than the 6. However, I don't have all in hand yet. I paid too much for the Fears but it looks exceptional for a 5. I love the centering.

Hasn't been one on ebay in awhile..I would guess around $400 based on what I paid a year or 2 ago when I got it ($375) and the current going rate for a PSA 5 ($800-$1,000)..

<< <i>What do you guys think about this raw card? Not sure what's up with the top right border. I would be very happy if this could bring a 7.

That is a gorgeous card....I think it's a solid 7. What did you pay for it? Where did you get it?

That's harsh. What is it that separates 8's, 9's and 10's on this card, in the eyes of PSA graders? Obviously centering is a factor, and I'm sure surface scratches would merit a downgrade too. But I'm betting you could hold a PSA 8 next to a 10 and not really be able to tell the difference.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Absolutely..These were compared to PSA 10's that I previously owned and were at LEAST equal to...For the Action Packed, you have to get a grader who has experience with them..If not, the guy looks it them in comparison to other regular, sharp cornered cards and they look like 8's...Just luck of the draw...There is no difference in PSA 8-9-10s of these cards..All came directly from a NON-stuck together box...I cherry picked the best from the box...Same as the 10's I used to own..

    3 1988 TOPPS 157 CHRIS DOLEMAN N/A 10

The Randles should have both been at least 9's. I've opened more than 100 of these and these were two of the better ones. I have another 15 at PSA now, so I should end up with a 10 eventually. I am REALLY stoked about the PSA 10 Doleman though, that makes my day. I've never seen one on ebay and I wanted/needed it for my Vikings set. The Jimmy Smith I bought raw off Sportlots, thought it would be a 10, but I have two more chances with that card. It's a really light and flimsy card but for some reason isn't as prone to chipping as one would think.

So the pop increases by 2 on the PSA 10 Doleman. I spent more than a year trying to find one and here Jason has one for sale the same day I pull mine. Go figure. image
I agree on those Action Packed cards, there is little to no difference in most that I've seen. I have no idea what separates an 8 from a 9 from a 10.

If anyone is interested in a PSA 8 Randle, let me know. lol
