Any thoughts on the changes to the HOF voting through 2024 to include one coach finalist in addition to the contributor, sr and regular player slots? It will help with the back log of coaches but is there really that long of a backlog of contributors?? Why not just move coaches into the contributor slot??

Coaches being separated from players was expected, as was 1 Senior per year after putting 10 in this class....But Im with you, I dont understand why they didnt just combine coach and contributor into one category? Or rotate them every other year....I guess the good news is, this only lasts for 4 years before they re-look again...
Nominated for the big Class of 2020 but weren't selected:
Coaches:
Don Coryell
Tom Flores
Mike Holmgren
Buddy Parker
Dan Reeves
Dick Vermeil
Contributors:
Art Modell
Bud Adams
Ralph Hay
Bucko Kilroy
Art McNally
Clint Murchinson
Seymour Siwoff
Players:
Roger Craig
Cliff Branch
Randy Gradishar
Drew Pearson
LaVern Dilweg
Al Wistert
Tommy Nobis
Ox Emerson
Cecil Isbell
Verne Lewellen
No guarantee they all come from this group, but unless we see changes to the Senior Committee voters, fair to assume the next few classes will come from this group

I thought the people who voted on the Centennial class were a one-time thing and that the regular voters would resume those duties for senior candidates going forward?

Correct. And 7 of the 9 current senior committee members/voters were part of the 25 person blue ribbon panel who selected the Centennial Class...Which is why it mostly (75%+) lined up with recent senior semifinal lists...
As We've seen, with the senior committee just about anything can happen...But in recent years, we've seen far fewer surprises than we did 10 years ago...I'd say these are pretty solid lists to work from...If we expect that 4 coaches, 4 contributors and 4 senior players are selected in the next 4 classes, I'd venture to guess at least 75% of them will come from the list of those who were finalists, but weren't elected in 2020...

Thanks, Jason. So guys like Ken Riley, Ken Anderson, Maxie Baughan, Chuck Howley, Andy Russell, Joe Klecko, etc. are probably going to have a loooooong wait for another shot. That stinks.

Well, a 4-5 year wait at least...Will be interesting to see how the senior candidates shake out this year...While the Senior Committee certainly won't get behind ALL of these blue ribbon candidates, have to imagine their selection will pull a ton of weight...As they return to needing 80% YES votes for the Senior Finalist to gain induction..Won't be automatic like it was for the centennial class....Having their names included both on that list AS WELL AS, the finalists for the NFL 100 all-time team that came out last year will carry huge weight in the HOF meeting for the final vote.
Reminder on those:
TE Ron Kramer (there were 12 TE finalists)
DT Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb (there were 16 DT finalists)
DT Tom Sestak

As soon as I saw Pearson’s reaction to not making it in last year, I knew he stood an excellent shot for the class of 2021. I’d still have put Branch in ahead of both him and Carmichael, but Drew is still plenty deserving. I think Flores was another obvious choice. I think the chances that both are elected are near 100%.

I would be shocked if either get voted down...Agree with Branch over both, as he was just a bigger threat/more feared to my memory, but they weren't going to put two Raiders in the same year..lol
Next year, I expect Coryell to be the selection as Coach...And A defensive player as the player..If they continue to follow the list above just like they did this year, my best guess would be Gradishar..

These were the Senior Semifinalists for this year:
Ken Anderson
Cliff Branch
Roger Craig
Randy Gradishar
LC Greenwood
Chuck Howley
Joe Klecko
George Kunz
Stanley Morgan
Tommy Nobis
Drew Pearson
Ken Riley
Kunz and Stanley Morgan the new-ish names...All others have been semifinalists in recent (past 5 years) classes...Safe to say, we aren't likely to see any Pre-War selections in the near future, if ever again...I believe the majority of the senior committee feels that those players have had ample chances for induction...Not only that, but the senior committee only going to get younger, not older moving forward..
Looking at these semifinalists...of the 12, only ONE (Howley) started their career before 1960...Nobis next oldest with first year being 1966...7 players started their careers between 1969-1974...With the final 3 starting in 1977, 1977 and the most recent being Roger Craig in 1983...

The ongoing lack of respect for Branch blows my mind. Seems like things have gone a little crazy the last few years. IMO the Cowher and Carmichael induction will make the Jerra one look OK (which I still haven't recovered from). Stanley Morgan ??? Geez.

Keep in mind, there are only 9 Senior committee HOF voters who select this group...These guys could conceivably be a "semifinalist" with as few as TWO votes...Its telling thats its only 12, when its usually 15...It means there was a massive tie with either one or two votes at #13...They've had as many as 17 senior semifinalists, so my guess at LEAST 5 players were tied for 13th in number of votes...Just something to keep in mind...These lists aren't typically published publically, I only do so when I know others are putting it out there...They can tell you who has some support, but being among the top 12 or 15 doesnt mean much...
By my count, there are 38 players who have been a Senior Semifinalist over the past 16 years (Since Ive been tracking them) who are NOT in the HOF...And 26 of them didnt even make the top 12 in the senior pool this year...8 of them haven't been a senior semifinalist in over 10 years....So certainly doesn't mean they going to get inducted this century...No idea who or why anyone voted for Stanley Morgan over a number of WAY better WR choices (Otis Taylor, Bill Wilson, Sterling Sharpe, Dilweg, etc)...But I dont see him ever being inducted.

Is Sharpe eligible as a Sr. yet? I was thinking he isn't yet...but if he is and Moragn was picked over him that is plain wrong. only thing that kept him out of HOF was his career ending neck injury...at the time of his injury he was nearly on par with Rice...but clearly above Irvin.

Question that is kinda on topic with this discussion. With respect to current running backs in the NFL, what is going to be the criteria for any of these guys donning a gold jacket? With the rule changes and the league moving to about an 80% passing league, the RB position could suffer a phase out. I am noticing right now that lots of defenses have gone smaller and faster to counter the passing offenses and teams that have a horse of a running back are causing problems for these schemes. Just wondering what will constitute a Hall of Fame running back from this era?

Good question. And we probably won't have an answer or even an idea until RBs from this era start to filter into the HOF room for voting...That eing said, there isn't a "criteria" for RBs or any other position really. We can glean this by looking at the history of HOF voting...Stat producers, QBs, WRs, etc...There is no stat criteria that automatically puts a guy in or keeps a guy out...Terrell Davis is in, Corey Dillon isn't...Dillon has 3500 more yards in careers that mostly overlapped...
If you looking for a path to try and guess future HOFers ahead of time, the best way is and has always been 1-All-Pro votes,2-Pro Bowl selections, 3-Super Bowl Rings...Compared these areas to peers and find those players with a good resume in each of these in weighed order....Then you can start looking at things like stats, dominance level v. number of games played, etc.
All-Pro RB votes from 2010-2019 seasons look like this----
Adrian Peterson---107 (Obvious HOFer)
Le'Veon Bell--91 (Only 3 Pro Bowls, no rings, likely wasn't good enough for long enough. Needs additional dominant years)
Jamaal Charles--87 (no chance at HOF)
Todd Gurley--82 (playing at HOF pace thus far, but needs to continue)
LeSean McCoy--78 ( 6 Pro Bowls and stat totals will make his candidacy very interesting)
Ezekiel Elliott--64 (Playing at HOF pace like Gurley, but 3 Pro Bowls and no rings, he needs multiple additional dominant seasons)

I, being a Titans homer, am wondering about the chances of Derrick Henry. Christian got the 1st team AP last year at RB and at Flex, which makes no sense, and Henry was 2nd team AP. I think he has only 1 Pro Bowl, too, which makes no sense if they look at the RB position as a stand alone. I know, obviously, he would have to play at his current level for a couple of more seasons, but I am wondering if dominance in a short period of time would be considered.

You never know how the voters will change over the years...But all we can go on is history, in particular recent history...How's Fred Taylor's candidacy going? He finally made the top 25, but is still likely very far away from election. RBs without All-Pro/Pro Bowl/Super Bowl resumes haven't gotten too far on stats/dominance alone. Dominance in particular seems to be defined as being considered head and shoulders above peers across multiple seasons...Henry could get there and looks the part, but he's still very early in that process...
I'm here to question, not to inspire or build up. To live how I want, as I see fit, according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Peyton Manning
Charles Woodson
Alan Faneca
Reggie Wayne
John Lynch
Agree with above..I think they need to prevent the WR backlog from growing to be unmanageable, and Wayne going in with Peyton makes a ton of sense...
Also agree, if not Faneca, then the other Final 10 OL from last year Boselli..
Lynch my defensive pick over Seymour and Zach Thomas from last years final 10.
With two first ballot locks, the odds favor two others from last years final 10, and a 5th from the final 15 of 2020 Class. In NO HOF Class since they began the 25/15/10/5 process have they elected more than one player who wasn't either a first ballot or from the previous years top 10...
But, we have had at least one from outside the final 10 or first ballot in 9 of the past 13 classes. Reggie Wayne fits logically as a top 15 but not 10 from last year...The others?
--Torry Holt...I dont see how he gets ahead of Wayne especially with Isaaac Bruce going last year...
--Sam Mills..I dont see him leapfrogging Zach Thomas until possibly next year (his last as a modern candidate)
--Leroy Butler...On what basis would he leapfrog John Lynch in the voting?
--Bryant Young...Same as above in relation to Richard Seymour
The only X Factor for Reggie Wayne is how Megatron slots in with the voters..If he takes votes away from the other WRs, it could put the voters already in the WR backlog, which would allow one of the other top 10 guys from last year to get in with Manning and Woodson...

Agree with all of you but putting Seymour in that last spot.
Manning
Woodson
Faneca
Wayne
Seymour
Thinking about the future HOF set, how does everyone feel about Russell Wilson, Julio Jones, Maurkice Pouncey, and Aaron Donald? If their careers ended today would they get in?
What about guy regularly getting close like Darren Woodson, Bryant Young, Sam Mills?
Any thoughts on the RCs for Eric Allen, Flipper Anderson, Rodney. Harrison, Fred Taylor, and Bryant Young just in case they gain entrance to the HOF short of buying a ticket?

SP for Taylor and Bryant
Score for Allen
Finest for Harrison
Bowman Best for the OT Anderson

Donald is one of the most accomplished defensive players to have ever played the game so I think he is a first ballot candidate no matter when he retires.

I would add Tasker and Matthews to the Future HOFers set. They've now been semifinalists 8 and 5 times, respectively, which suggests to me that they'll get in some day.

I agree. My brother and I were just discussing the same about Tasker. I always believed he should be in and him being an 8 time semifinalist suggest that there are plenty of other people who agree. Tough for Special teamers to get in though.

Matthews and Tasker both very close to their modern eligibility expiring. Likely a Long shot for either getting put in as a modern candidate at this point. Never making the top 15 makes it very tough to go from 25 to 5. It has happened but it’s rare.
If anything they certainly both deserve a spot in the Future HOF Senior set.

No on Matthews, Mills and Tasker...This is Matthews final year as a modern, would think he should be added to Future Seniors in February
Same for Mills and Tasker, 2022 their last year, seems pointless to add them to future modern list.
YES vote for Woodson, Young, Donald and Pouncey
NO vote on Russell, needs more accolades or rings as a QB
Also add YES votes for another semifinalist-
Fred Taylor (1998 SP Authentic) 2x HOF semifinalist

I posed this question a few months ago. I think Prizm was the split decision choice, but I don't think it was ever resolved 100%. Elite, numbered to 999, was another choice, I think.
I was originally for Elite but Prizm has really taken off in regards to price and popularity. Prizm has also been the choice for a few rookies in the Pro Bowl and All Pro Sets.

I would vote Prizm for Wagner. Th special teams player get no love. Tasker should be a member of the HOF. I wouldn’t put too many in but there are a few that were game changers. Hester is another example. He made me nervous anytime my team had to kick/punt the ball. I’d like to compare some punters yds/punt against Hester compared to yds/punt verse everyone else or career averages.
I think we need to add Travis Kelce (2013 Topps Chrome) to the future HOFers set. He's the first TE ever with five 1,000-yard seasons. His other two were 862 and 875 yards. Also has a SB ring. If he retired today, he'd definitely get my vote.

I submitted requests for F. Taylor, B. Young, A. Donald, D. Woodson, and T. Kelce. Keep your eyes out for polls on these additions. I didn't add Pouncey or Wagner because I don't have those cards and I need a valid cert# from a card in my inventory to make the additions. If someone has those cards and wants to make the request, it would be appreciated.

Don Coryell
Tom Flores

Cliff Branch
Randy Gradishar
Drew Pearson
LaVern Dilweg
Al Wistert
Tommy Nobis

Verne Lewellen
No guarantee they all come from this group, but unless we see changes to the Senior Committee voters, fair to assume the next few classes will come from this group
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
As We've seen, with the senior committee just about anything can happen...But in recent years, we've seen far fewer surprises than we did 10 years ago...I'd say these are pretty solid lists to work from...If we expect that 4 coaches, 4 contributors and 4 senior players are selected in the next 4 classes, I'd venture to guess at least 75% of them will come from the list of those who were finalists, but weren't elected in 2020...
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
DT Tom Sestak
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Tom Flores and Drew Pearson selected as Class of 2021 Finalists.
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Next year, I expect Coryell to be the selection as Coach...And A defensive player as the player..If they continue to follow the list above just like they did this year, my best guess would be Gradishar..
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
agree 100% with Andy and Jason. Branch was considerably better than Carmichael.
Not saying Gradishar is my pick.

Looking at these semifinalists...of the 12, only ONE (Howley) started their career before 1960...Nobis next oldest with first year being 1966...7 players started their careers between 1969-1974...With the final 3 starting in 1977, 1977 and the most recent being Roger Craig in 1983...
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Correction, Its been 7 years since Ken Riley was among the senior semifinalists...The rest are regulars...
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
By my count, there are 38 players who have been a Senior Semifinalist over the past 16 years (Since Ive been tracking them) who are NOT in the HOF...And 26 of them didnt even make the top 12 in the senior pool this year...8 of them haven't been a senior semifinalist in over 10 years....So certainly doesn't mean they going to get inducted this century...No idea who or why anyone voted for Stanley Morgan over a number of WAY better WR choices (Otis Taylor, Bill Wilson, Sterling Sharpe, Dilweg, etc)...But I dont see him ever being inducted.
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.

Correct, Class of 2020 was his last as a modern candidate...
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Ezekiel Elliott--64 (Playing at HOF pace like Gurley, but 3 Pro Bowls and no rings, he needs multiple additional dominant seasons)
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Dominance in particular seems to be defined as being considered head and shoulders above peers across multiple seasons...Henry could get there and looks the part, but he's still very early in that process...
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Henry is a beast. Love watching him play. Too bad the wrong card was chosen for the Rushing Champ set.
Modern narrowed to 25.

My Guesses
Manning and Woodson Locks
Faneca or Boselli
Reggie Wayne (Go in with manning)
Sam Mills
My picks as of now...
The only X Factor for Reggie Wayne is how Megatron slots in with the voters..If he takes votes away from the other WRs, it could put the voters already in the WR backlog, which would allow one of the other top 10 guys from last year to get in with Manning and Woodson...
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
Super Bowl XXVIII: Buffalo Bills vs Dallas Cowboys -

Donald is one of the most accomplished defensive players to have ever played the game so I think he is a first ballot candidate no matter when he retires.

I would add Tasker and Matthews to the Future HOFers set. They've now been semifinalists 8 and 5 times, respectively, which suggests to me that they'll get in some day.
I know this is a boring take, but I’m saying Manning, C.Woodson, and voting for Faneca. Other than that I won’t venture a guess.

"Official" Unofficial Future HOF set request survey
Putting some names out there for consideration for addition and removal for the future HOF set. A simple yes or no reply is what I'm looking for. If there is a general consensus, I'll submit to PSA for an official survey. Also please weigh on on the Woodson card. I think the others are pretty evident.

For additions.

The picked the Wagner Prizm for the all decade team - likely already decided.
II have a couple of Prizm's in for grading, but don't have one that I can submit for inclusion. I'll vote yes on the Prizm.
I think we need to add Travis Kelce (2013 Topps Chrome) to the future HOFers set. He's the first TE ever with five 1,000-yard seasons. His other two were 862 and 875 yards. Also has a SB ring. If he retired today, he'd definitely get my vote.
