    A quick stab at who you got those from? His seller name have an 82 in it?

    They do look nice.

    What did those 10 cards run you?
  • Nick, I think the total was about $65 with shipping, the Jensen was a big chunk of that it cost me $23.49. Having never bought any 1958 cards I have no idea if I overpaid or not, but they looked pretty clean.
  • I put together an entire 1958 set last year. I wasn't concerned that much about condition. Most would rank PSA 5's to 7s. Toughest part was getting the Mantles and stuff. Some coin collector in Florida had a #150 Mantle for $125 or Best Offer. It looked like a nice card so I offered $100. I was happy when I got it. It looked nice. Even sent it in and it came back a PSA 4. Not unhappy with it either. PSA 4's image

    I would rather have an entire 1958 set than just one PSA 9 card

  • Good looking card Phil. I'm in no hurry to put it together, I'm just going to pick up a card now and then aiming for pretty clean and decent centering, it may take me a year or it may take ten. Just something to fill the time while waiting for the next years heritage cards to come out. image
  • Got a cheap lot of about 150 cards I had bought ages ago off ebay in today and was surprised to see it not picked over at all, it came with a proper proportioned number of SPs, Inserts and even a Chrome ~ I’m satisfied with my $5 purchase. What it also did was eliminate one of my needed cards and gave me an increased “to trade” pile

    ~ here goes:

    ***********
    Needed:
    (only 12 cards total left to fill out my set! If you can help with them contact me and I’ll overpay in return to finish it off ~ I really want to complete it so I dont have a reason to buy any more blasters image )
    ***********
    SPs:

    58 Nick Swisher
    121 Jay Payton
    186 Scott Shields
    257 Arron Cook
    293 Ryan Garko (need 2 ~ one for my Indians books as well)
    294 Miguel Batista
    392 Shane Youman
    420 Norris Hopper
    465 Pedro Martinez
    482 Edgar Renteria AS
    (names might differ from cards released ~ this is copied from the list in this thread and not the actual released cards)

    Mantle:
    7, 39

    ~~~ Yellow Team Name ~~~ Nothing image
    ~~~ New Age Performers ~~~ Nothing image
    ~~~ Then & Now: ~~~ Nothing image
    ~~~ Flash Backs: ~~~ Nothing image
    ~~~ Yellow Player Name: ~~~ Nothing image
    Also any Indians Chrome, Refractors, Blacks, Relics and Autos! I know about these:
    THC47 Peralta ~ (need Refractor and Black Ref ~ I have the Chrome OTW )
    THC69 Martinez ~ (need Refractor and Black Ref ~ have the Chrome)
    CC-VM Victor Martinez Relic
    Joe Caffie Auto
    … But there could be more as I don’t have a total checklist of the Cho/Auto/Relics. It’s probably easier to just say “if you have an Indians special card please contact me!”
    I’m also interested in past years Relics, Chromes, Autos etc…
    (Contact me on these and we can work something out I imagine. I have 19Cho, 5Ref, 5Rel and money to complete a deal if needed)
    *************************
    What I have to trade:
    *************************
    SPs: 14, 50, 67 (2), 68, 76, 94, 113, 130 (2), 131, 139, 150, 177, 195, 204, 213, 240, 284, 303, 321, 347 (2), 366, 402, 410, 411, 483
    Thanks a ton again everybody I’ve completed deals with to this point! You guys are the best!!
    Those members: Bunker, KCBallBoy, Parkeri and Nam812!
    Thanks also to those members I have open deal with, I’ll keep you posted as to when the cards get here.
    I have a dumb question on the felt box toppers. Does anyone know why the Tribe, Braves, & Tigers were not included? I thought I originally saw that 16 box toppers were going to be available.
    Thanks,
    Brian
  • Brian,
    Yeah, there was to be 16 of the at first and being an Indians fan I cant express how disappointed I was to find out that I was one of the three cut... From my understanding we havent heard 'why', just that they 'were' cut.
    Logic says that the Braves might have been a problem; Wahoo is very similar to todays Wahoo though so I don’t see the logic in the 58 version being a problem but the 2007 version isn’t… The only difference in him is really that he used to have a Bow&Arrow on his back. Tigers? This is the one that throws the “politically incorrect” argument out of the water.
    Here is what we missed incase anyone is curious:
    Indians
    image
    Tigers
    image
    Braves 1958 / 1959
    imageimage
    could be either of these; the first was on the ‘58 cards the other on the ‘59 cards The ‘58’ logo was never actually on a uniform and instead the sleeve patch showed the person facing left with a more normal colored skin tone and the feathers of his headdress blowing in the wind like a birds wing. The ’59 logo was actually on the sleeve of the ’58 uniforms ~ although he too had a normal skin tone when worn instead of the redskin they used on the cards image. Both are rather derogatory though, and unlike the Indians, neither are still in use today.
    I wonder if the Braves was pulled because of the “PC” reason and the Tigers and Indians didn’t make it because of copywrite reasons. If you look, neither the Indians nor Tigers had ’52 Topps Rookies’ “logo variation” cards either which is a tad strange; the Braves did however which I guess could dispel that “PC” argument ~ using the same logo as the ’58s. Well that could still make the case for the copy write theory on the Indians and Tigers though as both teams had the same logo in 52 as 58 ~ Topps might just have the write to reprint those cards but not use the individual logo for non-reprint issue on those two long gone logos… maybe…
    Conclusion ~ who knows image
    man this thread is a wealth of knowledge. Probably wikipedia worthy! I just mailed out a bunch of packages today, so if you
    worked a deal with me and want a tracking # let me know.. these should start arriving this weekend.
    Its been another great year, I think things are starting to wind down a bit. Im hoping that there will be another set that
    we can all do this on. I have appreaciated seeing old friends again and meeting new ones. It isn't often that vintage guys
    cross the line, but if I need an answer this is the place I check first.
    I still have plenty of cards if anyone needs them. I hate to see someone needing just a few cards...Ive been in that situation before.
    PM me!
    Thanks to all!
    Kevin
  • Good afternoon. I broke 40 16 box Blaster Cases and 10 8 box Retail Cases. Due to a family illness I haven't listed much of the product. Have about 2000 SPs and 700 Variations. If anyone needs to fill your sets, I probably can help. I have a place to move the sets, so the different cards aren't that important.
    I'm really not crazy, my wife and I give the cards to 5 local HS kids, they sell them, and the money goes into a college scholarship fund. We'll have about 500 items listed on the bad place this weekend, if that's the way you'd rather go.
    I know you guys probably know a lot about the product, but if you have any questions, I might can help. Topps the last couple of years have made the Blasters the best bang for the buck, in my opinion. We got 1 auto every 2 Blaster Cases.imageimage
    Could you list some of the bigger pulls? Also are they all on ebay now?
    Thanks
    Kevin
  • Big slick, may I ask you, how much is it for a case of blasters?
    Do you pay retail or do you have a distributor?
    Because of EBay and the business of cards, I think it's terrific you have hs kids doing this. Especially with the money going for college scholarships. How did all that evolve? It sounds so interesting.
  • I guess a little background is in order. I've collected for 50 years this year. Collecting has always been my golf.
    I was in the investment business for many years and developed several Retail connections, and for a good cause, never been above a little arm twisting. My wife and I have always looked at helping people with a teach a man to fish type of philosophy. They break lots of cases, and usually pay for at least 1 year of school.
    They will have some Master Sets and most of the other Sets also. The Autos are all gone. The best other pull was the Pujols/Musial Duel Pants #rd to 58. I think it was 1/14,000 packs. It will be listed.
    I think I paid a little less than $300 for the 24 ct cases, and have a really great Blaster connection. They were $155 per dlvd. which is below Factory cost. The best part, I get those directly from the Factory.
    The Blasters have been great in the recent products. BCDP had a Orange, Green or Blue Auto in each case, they made a lot of money. They also gave me a Master Set.
    yeah finest and topps moments seem to be hot out of the gate. Heritage an its archaic pull odds just isn't cutting it. Set builder
    are the only drive for this product and most of them are all done. How looooooow can it go?
    Kevin
  • Heritage an its archaic pull odds just isn't cutting it. Set builder are the only drive for this product and most of them are all done
    Yeah, maybe Heritage should go the way of some of the other products where you pull a 1/1 out of every pack image
    I hate the 'high-end' insert ratio in these packs (or lack there of) and do wish they would throw us a bone by maybe making it a 1:24 Sig ratio or something so we get one in every box like so many other products on the market ~ I dont even care if I get more bums because of it, its still nice finding ink and at least we would get some little kick-back ~ but the packs are still so fun to open as they are and I dont think you can beat the "old time" feel of the cards with the back having the old Brown-Fuzzy cardboard and the fronts with next to no luster. Its really a set just for the Vintage collectors.
    Although if I was running Topps I would make a bigger to-do about the history and respect they pay to the original set, esp on the retail side where kids just may not know the history behind these. They add all those filler cards with the school grades thing, I think they should have a few of those packed in which detail some of the specs of the cards to help teach the kids about the previous set. Make it kind of like the 89 Bowman set where maybe you get a pic of one of the orig cards (or even better a side by side of the orig vs the new like some of our pictures in this thread) with the back listing some of the details like "yellow name/team variations following the 58 set" and like a little description of the mistake made in the first set which made it a collectors premium years later. It would be a nice change to us collectors who get tired of that same tan trash card over and over again, mean a better way to promote some of the cool features of the set and introduce the kids which will likely pick a pack or two up at Target to some history of the hobby and game. Besides, a card stating there is no #145 because of the '58 set might keep some kid from going crazy trying to find the "impossible card" ~ it just seems smart business to me.
    But what do I know, I'm an adult who still runs to the kids aisle at Toys-R-Us to find McFarlane figures and cant go to Walmart without spending $40 or so bucks on baseball cards image
  • Whoever prints for Topps must have smoking presses about now. The Black Refractors are really tough. I have a guy working on the set, and the Blacks are about twice as difficult a pull, as the autos. 40% more than last year? We've had a lot of people back out on Master Sets, most are the same that I filled set orders for 52 Rookies at $100 less than the going price. Oh well.
    I'll get a printout of what we have left, and compare it to you guys lists, and post.
    I bought a box of 07 Heritage for fun, but am not going to pursue the set. If anyone is interested, I will send them the cards for $10. I only took out the jersey card and one refractor and a piazza, a Frank Thomas and a clemens or two. The rest of the cards are there, including a Makoviak refractor numbered to 558 and a Reggie Abercrombie refractor numbered to 1958. There are yellow letter cards here too, including a Valentin and a Theriot. I have not checked for others. I just want to clear some room.
    PM me.
  • I'll see what I can do. This sort of thing is why the good Lord made secretaries. Run a search for the Pujols/Musial duel pants. I'm sure it's the only one listed, that's them.
    Updated Wantlist:
    I still need the following felts:
    Cubs
    Pirates
    Senators
    I have lots of 2007 Topps Heritage to trade.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brian
  • Well I had to go to Walmart and while there I noticed that they had some new heritage retail packs, now I know that buying at the store means that I am paying $72/box versus the $50/box I can get them for online. So against my better judgement I bought two boxes (I have got to seek some professional help for this addiction), pulled several chrome and a couple of refractors none of which I needed, I did manage to get one SP I needed. I was down to the next to last pack and by this time I was telling myself I told you so, and then out comes this beauty, by far my best pack pull yet. It will be headed for the bay to help offset the $150 cost of the one SP I needed out of the boxes.
    My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
