At the ANA, I brought a number of my Halves for imaging. The previous page shows most of my newer images of the AU coins - a smattering of the MS coins. [ All the MS coins are at PCGS now for regrading.]
Here are three coins that are from my 2nd tier set.
The 1895-P was in an NGC 55 holder - and I crossed it a few weeks ago before the ANA:
The 1901-S was one of my first purchases when I started my newest 2nd set - I loved the dirty look of it:
The 1904-S is a recent Summer FUN purchase... thought it matched the overall look of my second tier set better than what I had...

Mike Fey and Glenn Holsonbake as well as a number of BCCS Members examined this coin at the ANA earlier this month and it was determined that it was a buckled die and the die striations under the right wing [facing] show this terminal die state. The die striations are also very evident on the lower denticles on the reverse.

Hello Dr. Pete ! Helleo MFH (I hate you) just kidding. MFH, of all the collectors on this forum I admire the most its you and Doc Pete.
This is still the most popular thread on the pcgs boards and for good reason.
The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.
Thanks Barberlover. I still have the 92-S half you so kindly sold me years ago. Hard to find one any better! I agree that Mike (MFH) is the MAN and keeps this marvelous thread going. Just wish I could get up to speed on the imaging and posting.
More than two dozen Mint State Halves will be imaged by Todd Pollock- once I get the new reholdered and regraded coins delivered [ in about another week ].
I'm still on vacation - and now awaiting Hurricane Earl... on Cape Cod...

The really funny thing is... the owner could have sold this coin for a very legitimate offer of $25K if he only had it holdered by ANY TPG... and wouldn't because he dislikes ALL TPG's...
I might not have sold it either - but - I would have wanted to have it authenticated by ANY TPG !!!

Yes, Tom, it was that coin.
The discovery of the micro O in the bottom of the flip devastated the collector at the time. I was also very sympathetic at that discovery.
The closest to an 1898-O Micro O is my Jules Revier example in NGC 30; this coin was at NGC for over six months being examined in 2007; as there were no comparison examples available, they would not give this coin the designation I feel the coin deserves. The size of the O is different from the 1892-O Micro O; its more the size of the Dime mint mark [ not the Quarter's mint mark ].
Ok...has anyone seen the 1892-S Micro S Half Dollar ???

I just started a thread regarding a 1907-O Half PCGS 53 - which I picked up from JJ Teaparty - at the Castle Show - pre-ANA - and I thought this should be brought to the fore-front of Barber collectors' interest.
I found this extremely interesting myself; I brought my AU 53 to the BCCS meeting at the ANA - and we all seemed to speculate as to how this happened. Was it a terminal die state ? Is the new one being offered at Heritage an earlier striking ??

I have experienced a great deal of fun in acquiring recently a very nice mostly raw quarter set, and in the past week getting a large submission back along with a consignment of great PCGS circulated Barber Halves. The halves are now up on the BST and if you care to look at the photos you will find the thread over there. I won't link it here as it is not my intention to spam.
It is my intention to share the fun with those of you who enjoy seeing graded circulated Barbers. I feel most fortunate to have been able to look at so many in such a short period of time. I doubt I will see this many again at once.
Glen, That's the largest collection of quality mid-grade Barber Halves I've ever seen for sale at one time...you clearly are fortunate to have access to so many beautiful halves...and probably in hog-heaven! If I didn't have many of them already I would be loading up! I hope other mid-grade collectors jump on these coins quickly because we aren't likely to see such a nice assortment again any time soon! Good luck!
First of all, I'd like to say Thank You to Glenn and all my fellow Barber Collectors who are having a field day picking up coins that just are not offered in any quantity and all in much sought after mid range condition.
Because of this consignment, I have been in touch with many old [ and new ] friends. Its been great reconnecting with everyone. Thanks again for all the nice PM's.
This Thread is basically for NEWPS or new images... so... here's my NEWP:
I have not seen an 1898-S Quarter in any condition for sale in ages and I've been looking to upgrade my AU 53.
Now - what is not so evident is ... this 1898-S Quarter is in actuality the Breen 4159...
Here are two close up's of the RPM...
...and here is the 1898-S Page from David Lawrence's The Complete Guide to Barber Quarters where he mentions Breen having reported the RPM "that may be an S over O"... but...he hadn't seen one.
I'm just thrilled to have been able to locate an AU 58 - and after a conversation with Labelman87, I knew I should jump on this coin. Thanks again, Craig.

Some real nice-looking mid-grade barber halves at the Heritage auction on-line right now, many with CAC stickers. The 95-P in PCGS XF 45 iCAC is now bid at $300 and I know of no price guide that would suggest anything close to that. There are some others that could go way up, too, but there are still two days of bidding left. None of these are my coins, I am not bidding on them, just enjoying watching them.
Posting a pic of a coin I used to own, sold a couple of years ago, and now DEEPLY regret selling it. Not a rare date or anything like that, just the look of the coin in hand was breathtaking (to me anyway). On the open market, it's probably only worth around $200-$225, but I would pay well in excess of that to reacquire it. Take a good look and if any of you think you might own it, please PM me.
(note the diagnostic marks... a small pin tick in the field to the right on the nose on the obverse, and a small chattering of tiny toning marks on the bottom rim of the reverse).
I seriously would like to own this coin again so I'm hoping somebody here can help me out.
Took a look ahead at the FUN auciton by Heritage for Tampa, Jan 2011 and there are some really high-grade barber halves coming up, mostly in NGC holders, including an MS 65 micro O and the 04-S in 67! Some other examples are also listed, and I expect more. Should be interesting to see how these do after the Duckor sale.
I have no clue as to whose coins are being offered at the FUN Tampa sale. Possibly Gardner ?
Looking forward to the Platinum night when those Barber Halves are auctioned off. Sorry to say - but - most of those Halves are out of my league.
Heritage has an overdate Dime in PCGS 58 which is currently at $1100 plus the buyers fees and two days left to go at auction. I can account for 4 of the six known in AU 58... DIMEMAN; JMW; MFH; Heritage Auction. EDIT: Update: the Overdate Dime closed at $2,070 with Buyers Fees.
We discussed the 1909-O Quarter in PCGS 64 earlier [ on another Thread ] ... well, it closed at $4,457 with Buyers Fees.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Thought about an "upgrade" for my 09-O Quarter but decided that the Heritage piece wasn't what I was looking for. I would like to find another that looked like the attached image (1902 PCGS58 CAC) in MS64.
Not sure whose coins (FUN auction 2011) those are in the high-grades. Gardner has an 04-S in PCGS 65 per his NGC registry set, and he does not seem to be selling any coins, only buying. I suspect they are a collector or dealer who wishes to be anonymous, perhaps bought the nucleus of high-end coins to start a set, or collected mostly keys, and is now selling after Duckor's set pushed up prices on the high-end stuff. Sounds like a smart plan on the part of the current owner(s) of these coins.
Excellent 1902 Quarter - love it. Now that I know your taste level and if you have any duplicate AU 58's that look like that, you know I'm very interested. I was thrilled to get the 98-S in AU 58 [ being its a Breen 4159 is just an added bonus.]
Anyone see an 1892-O Type 2 Quarter in PCGS 58 ? ... Also - an 1897-S Quarter in PCGS 58 ?

Seems as if I won three lots last night on Heritage...
One of the three lots is an 1898-O Dime in PCGS 45 which is part of an 1898 Set of Dimes intended to go to my cousin's 12 yr old son, Marco [ many from Boston may remember him tagging along with me.]
Here's the 1898-O in XF 45 - nice looking coin and I'm sure that Marco will be thrilled with it. [ He has to wait for Christmas though ]
While I'm on the right section of Photobucket, here are the two other Barber Dimes which Marco will receive for Christmas... from his parents and his "Uncle" Mike:
For those who know my fasination of 1898 dated coins, I think this YN will eventually have a very handsome collection of his Centennial Birthyear coins !
