Attention fellow barbophiles, The Reeded Edge has a few new higher circ grade halves in stock. The 95-O in PCGS XF45 and the 00-O in PCGS VF are tough to find coins.

Not my coins, but take a look.

Seems the large image of my 1907-S/s fell off the radar scope - so - here's a tiny image from Photobucket.
Messy Desk had the new images printed for me in 8x10 Glossies - and they're great.

  • WOW, that 07-S is awesome!

    Dr. Pete,
Thanks for sharing on the 95-O and the 00-O at Reeded Edge. If I didn't already have those dates, I would be screaming to purchase them...they are TOTALLY AWESOME! However, for other Barberphiles that may not be aware, they have some other great coins as well...for example:
    04-O VF-35
    05-S VF-20
    09-P VF-30
    09-S VF-20
    11-S XF-40
    13-P VF-25

They all look like "keepers"...but I especially like the 11-S...with a pop of four...with a very pleasing eye appeal, that would be a nice coin to own...that is, if anyone's interested!

Thanks again Doc for the tipper...I'm sure all interested mid-grade collectors will continue to watch for future additions!

On Saturday, July 10th, while at FUN in Orlando,
I dropped off two submissions to PCGS.

Submission One - a cross over of two Barber Halves-
both economy submissions - for an 1895-P in NGC 55
and a 1906-D in ANACS 50. Last night I received my
    grades: 1895-P is now PCGS 53 & 1906-D is now PCGS 50.
[Images to follow]. I called Customer service to compliment
them on their fast service and was told by Chris that the coins
were being shipped Priority today !!
    image

    imageimage

Submission Two: Variety Designation - Reholder on two Barber Halves:
1892-P TDR in PCGS AU 58; and 1911-S RPM - PCGS MS 66.
Both of these coins now reside in the Registry in Complete Variety Series.
    The 1911-S/s in MS 66 - is now a POP-TOP - [ 1/0 ].
Both coins now have the Hayes Pedigree - and the 11-S/s has "Friend-Hayes".

    image

    imageimage

As I'll be at the ANA in Boston - I'll have my MS Halves with me for resubmission
under Secure Plus - hoping to pick up a few Pluses or Bumps in Grade. These
coins will be on display at Holsonbake Numismatics' table # 1521 for the duration
of the show. Todd of BluCCphotos will be imaging these coins prior to submission.

Looking forward to meeting everyone while I'm helping Glenn at the ANA - stop by to say "HI"

    See you in Boston, Mike.

The Duckor set is now listed and ready for internet bidding at the Heritage web site. Should be interesting to see what bids surface prior to the show starting in Boston.

See you there, Peter. I'm bringing your old MS 63 Micro O with me
for Secure Plus regrading and to have it imaged by Todd Pollock
[ who has imaged the majority of my Half Dollars ]. PCGS has a
Show Express Service of 2-3 Hours and a Show Service of One Day.

Stop by Glenn Holsonbake's table [ 1521 ] to look at her again !

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    There has been alot of discussion [ and rightfully so ] of the Duckor collection;
please don't forget that there are a few pre-ANA auctions - ie: Bowers & Merena.
I just viewed their Half Dollar offerings - and there are many very choice MS 64
examples [ not all of us can afford MS 66+ & 67 + etc ]. I have not had the
opportunity to examine the Stack's catalog; looking forward to see what they
    have to offer as well.

There was a nice assortment of Dimes and Quarters as well at B&M.

    Happy Hunting, Everyone.

    Mike,

I will remember your micro O 'till I die. It was tough to let it go, but the 65 came along and I couldn't afford both. You know more history about the coin, as well. Check out the listing for the MS 65 example of Dr. Duckor's in the upcoming Heritage ANA auction. Your coin is mentioned in the condition census discussion. Some day I will get my coin secure plus graded, and if it is worthy of the plus grade, it will move it up a small notch on the listing.

My avitar icon image is from the coin you have. It is also used by TahoeDale.

Peter - I know you'll be pleased to see your old Micro O again.
I'm dropping it off at PCGS the morning of the first day of the
convention. I should have it back within twenty four hours.

I heard from Dale - he'll be at the ANA as well. Looks like Steve's
collection will be garnering alot of attention.

I hardly ever go onto the BST here - except to beg for AU 58's ... image

However, tonight I ran accross this coin - and its on its way to me tomorrow:

    image

To top it off - its already been imaged by Todd of BluCCphotos !! Thanks again, Sean.

Here's the coin it replaces... [ which slips into my 2nd set ]

<< <i>MFH: that 11 S Barber Half (Friend). How do you go about getting coins pedigreed? >>

    Billy - You must have one of the top five sets in any category and I believe it has to be 90% complete;
you may request the Pedigree when you submit. The "Friend" 11-S is now : 1911-S/s - RPM FS-501
and the Pedigree is now: "Hayes - Friend".

Different fees are associated with each submission. If you're going with a Regular [ non Secure ] Submission
you are liable for a Reholder Fee [ $10.00 ] and the Pedigree Designation is "Free". If you are sending in a PCGS
certified coin for a Regrade - Regular Submission - there is a $30.00 Fee; the Economy Submission can also be
used for $ 18.00. [ There are different Valuations which will determine which level of service you can use. ]
I believe you can not ask for a Pedigree Designation on any Cross Over submission; once the coin is in a PCGS
Holder, you may resubmit and request the Pedigree.

Once my SLQ Collection was 100% complete I submitted the "complete set with major varieties" for regrade and
Pedigree Designation. That set is still ranked Number Five in the All Time Finest Collections with Varieties with FH

Although I am currently ranked [ at PCGS ] the number One set of Quarters [ there are collections ATS that are
far, far superior to mine ] and the Fourth set of Halves - my Dime set is Six in the Basic Set; number Four with
Varieties. Just submitting all these coins for Pedigree Designation would run me close to $2,300 - plus P&H.
Its just not worth it to me to have everything Pedigreed. Maybe just the MS material.

I believe if your collection reaches the top [ # 1 ] set in any category - all associated fees are waived except for P&H.

Good luck - and based on the quality of the 1913 Dime you showed us - you're well on your way to a Pedigreed set.
BTW - Most Pedigreed sets are worth absolutely no more than the non - pedigreed sets - its just "Pride of Ownership".

Found this 1908-O in PCGS 53 on the BST - and its a nice looking coin - IMO.
The cheek depression is very typical of New Orleans coins - as the dies were packed
in sawdust to prevent them from rusting in the hot and humid environment. Eventually,
Todd Pollock will be imaging my 2nd tier set. In the meantime, here are Waterzooey's images !

Its scheduled for the 2nd Tier set:

I sent a few Dimes ATS - and got these grades:

    1893-S - AU Details - Cleaned.
    1896-S - AU 55
    1897-O - AU Details - Cleaned.
    1898-P - AU 58
    1898-S - XF 45

The balance of eighteen coins were submitted on their
Economy submission while at FUN and no grades as yet.

Images forthcoming from NGC. They have a service that
images coins for $3.00 -and I thought "what the heck".
If they're terrible - I'll have Todd reshoot them.

I received an eMail from RLD14 earlier this evening asking me my opinion
about a Half Dollar on JJ Teaparty's web site. I must admit - I have not
    been on their site all that frequently as of late - just too busy I guess;

I looked up the coin for RLD14 - it was already gone - [ nice stuff moves fast ]
While there browsing their newps - I stumbled across this 1907-O in AU 53 for my
second set which I'll pick up at the ANA in two weeks:

Again, I apologise for the small images - Photobucket shrinks them...

Although I am not prepared at the moment to fully discuss the ANA show,
I thought I'd make a comment about the above imaged coin from J J Teaparty.
The 1907-D has a buckled damaged reverse die - and Michael Fey was very
excited about it when we met at the BCCS meeting Saturday morning before
    the show opened.

I had Todd Pollock image it - and when I get my images back from Todd,
    I'll post them.

Over all - I had a great time working behind Glenn Holsonbake's counter.
I didn't buy that much - and I'll have images later once I receive them.

Broadstruck, having seen Mike's coin on a couple of occasions, the colors on Mike's Micro O are pretty close in Todd's photo. I have seen other photos with more lighting that show the luster but having seen the coin in hand the colors you see in Todd's photo are pretty accurate. It's the typical trade off more lighting, which brings out luster but subduing the natural color's the eye sees. I personally have preferred the color appearance to be accurate at the small expense of luster emphasis. I really like Mike's coin a lot as a 63.

Mike, you're welcome on the 95-S dime. That is one sweet coin, original with nice luster and I think we did very, very well on the price too!

If you didn't want it I was more then happy to keep it in inventory. I couldn't be happier though you liked her as much as I did and she is home with you.

While the 95-O gets all the press the 95-S is damn tough and a sleeper IMHO. That's the nicest one I have seen in MS63-65 grade range for the assigned grade in a long long time.

I've had most of my Halves imaged now with the exception of the MS ones.
The Micro O image is shown above - and yes - its certainly very close to the
actual coin. The mirror surfaces are muted in the images - and the coin itself
shows just a tad more mirrored look. Over all, I'm very pleased with its outcome.

TomB what a great find for a very reasonable price. Congrats. I'll bet there are at least 10 people who would immediately buy that coin from you and provide you with a tidy profit. 93-S is very tough in original condition above VG.
