I have to get my AU55 (CAC) 1897-S imaged. (I need to my entire collection professionally imaged!) I purchased it as a ANACS58 and it has a nice look to it.
Wow! Those of you with access to Heritage's Auction Archives, check out how well the PCGS barber halves did in F12-XF45 in the recent Coinfest auction in CT. I was very surprsied to see what the 92-O in VF20, the 04 in XF 45, the 97-O in F12, and the 95 in XF45 did, among some others. This shows some real strong bidding for the nice mid-range coins. All of them that got the strongest bids were also CAC'd.
I'm moving into the Barber dime series, thanks Mike, I think
The 95-O (PCGS AU ) does not have an X on the neck or a scratch on the cheek, but a holder needing some polishing. A beautiful coin that stopped in every post office between Michigan and Colorado. Yes I was getting nervous.
The overdate is a former Mike Hayes coin which is nicely toned.
My Barber Dime Thread seems to have faded into oblivion and considering how much time and effort went into it I thought that I'd add it here as a LINK.

MFH, Hope you still like it as a duplicate if you upgrade as that is one sexy barber half even looking at your tiny photo bucket pic!
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
<< <i>I have always liked this coin - but I think I have fallen for the looks of another - tomorrow evening I'll know if I've gotten an upgrade - or not.
Mike, It's a wonderful thing you're doing for your cousin's son...rewarding good efforts/behavior with an excellent coin. Perhaps he can be motivated to look at numismatics as a noble hobby versus video games and other such distractions. I commed you...I'm doing something similar for my grandson...although he's only four months old!
Broadstruck suggested a better image, and I love dinking around with the camera. So thanks to a little slab polish and some tweaking of the camera settings have helped with the attached images. The reverse is a bit out of focus, and the lighting still isn't quite right, but here it is 1895-O PCGS 50 with some nice toning.
Oh and thanks to Mike's suggestion, I can get a new camera
Seems I also won this 1914-D in a PCGS AU 53 Holder. I'll wait to give this coin to Marco once he gets another great Report Card.
Dave, this YN is beyond taken with my coins - and he loves Steel Cents as well... so - last month I picked up a nice 1943-S in PCGS 65 - as a stocking stuffer at Christmas.
Not too crazy about the seller's thumbs in the iamges - but this coin will be photographed by Todd of BluCCphotos in January at FUN.

I remember when I was 12 yrs old - and the coin collecting bug bit me. Also alot of our fellow collector friends have said they started collecting approximately by the age of 12 - and - if my cousin's son keeps even a mild interest in coins thru Grade School and thru High School and College then I feel that he'll want to continue his collection during his "earning years".
What I like about this kid is he is one of the very few who isn't always asking what the coin costs but just admires the beauty of the coin. I gave him a Red Book - so he can look up mintages - and I have already told him that the prices are off - so - just appreciate the wealth of other information contained in the Book.
I also have to state that the boy is also addicted to an on-line video game and plays with hundreds of other kids around the world - its about the adventures of a Medieval Knight going on a quest thru villages and the countryside. [ Can't remember its name ]. The boy is pretty savy and knows when there is any inappropiate phishing; and never divulges where he is or his name. Once he's off the video game, he's a typical kid - and enjoys Ice Hockey and Baseball. [ He throws a 90 mph fast ball and fairly accurate !! ] { My cousin calls him his "Retirement Plan" ... cause of the boy's plans of being a pro ball player !! }
Just imagine what coins he'll collect on a Ball Players' salary !!
Ok - to keep this Coin Related -

I don't know Barbers. I don't collect Barbers. But I acquired this by coincidence and I can't bring myself to sell it. I'm not going to look further. You guys have a sickness I don't need. Lance.
<< <i>Here is the King with a Pop of 5. I have never seen any of the other 4 pieces so I can't say how this one compares to the others. This one was an ex-Gary Hultman piece. Care to guess the grade. Coin has nice original skin and a full strike. How ofter do we see that on a Barber Half?

Thought that this coin needed to be TTT'd for the 4th Anniversary of this Thread started by Barberman55 [ Dan ] back on 11-17-2006.
This great looking 1904-S was once part of the Peterson collection , then the Shireman collection and unbeknownst to most will be offered for sale at auction at FUN in Tampa at Heritage's auction.
Save your Sheckels, Boys and Girls, because there will be some "Blood-Letting" and the nashing of teeth when this - and the others cross the auction block.

HoledAndCreative, Holey Cow, what caliber round was fired at that 92-S? Looks like a .38 or 9mm. I suppose we have a new variety here...the Holey One! Unfortunately, it's a waste of a very nice 92-S...I'm sure the shooter didn't realize that he/she fired their most expensive round ever.
Mike, Verrrry nice 04-S...any insight into what other XF's are to be auctioned off at the FUN in Jan?

It's a tough date without question, and there aren't any visible hairlines with a glass, but with the camera, perhaps a light cleaning. It really does look better in hand.
<< <i>I hope you cherry picked that - and I'm sure you know what you have !!
Congratulations.
I'd have cried if there was a hole in it... >>
I'd have cried for joy if it had one, although I would have wished for a higher grade. >>
Well, you could always take the example of the 92-S to heart. If you own a gun, fire a round through that baby! Just make sure you fire it through the mintmark because any other collector who sees an 1892-O Micro O with a hole in the middle of the coin is likely to beat you bloody if they find out the damage was done intentionally.

Same thing happened to me after I posted. The post didn't show up so I posted it again thinking it didn't "take". And that message also didn't show up. Then a few minutes later the missing messages appeared. Strange.
Here's a NEWP of mine. In the 13 years of my collecting this series I have had three separate opportunities to buy a VF35 example of this date but in each case some flukey oddball situation occurred that prevented me from finalizing the purchases. Believe me when I tell you that the situations that prevented these purchases have been the cause of agonizing frustration for me. This date has been my absolute nemesis. The highest grade example I have ever owned until now was a VF25. Finally on my fourth attempt I was able to land this one and I was thrilled and relieved to get it. Nothing super-spectacular, but it has that crusty look I like.
