Got my PCGS Secure Plus "Free Quarterly Special" grade back tonight - my 1898-O Quarter keeps its MS 65 grade - No Plus - No Upgrade - all I hope is that it retains its FRIEND pedigree - and that my name is added to the insert.
I have seen the 1905-O that Manorcourtman sold you, however, I recently purchased one from Chris a couple of months ago [which I love] and I had another duplicate, otherwise, I would have been interested in that one as well. Its a BEAR of a date in VF30-XF45.
The 1905-P is nothing less difficult a date - as our friend Craig Peterson can attest to. I really like yours - very much.
Nice upgrade on the 92-P - and I agree with you on the 1904-O - its a nice coin but a 25 at most.

Joe - Nice images - keep em coming.
One of these days - you have to open up your Registry set [ I hope you saved all your certificates ].

The "Cat is Out of the Bag"....................
The finest set of Barber Halves ever assembled [ so far that is ] is scheduled to be auctioned off this upcoming year at the ANA - I assume in Sacramento - as reported by Saintguru on another Thread. The Dr. & Mrs. Steven Duckor Collection is about to be sold off.
If ever I decided to fly across the country for an auction - this is the one. The collection is filled with condition rarities and most are considered the finest known for their date and Mint. Recently, this world class collection was submitted to PCGS "SecurePlus" service where it received 27 Plus Grades and one Full Grade increase. That's nothing to sneeze at !!
My upcoming trip to the Boston ANA in August will be a very exciting one for me, not only will I be helping out a friend, Glenn Holsonbake, aka: PonyExpress8, [ he may regret my help...but I hope not ] ...but I'll have a chance of personally examining the Duckor Collection ...if I can get DrPete and Ponyexpress8 away from it.
------------------------------------------ EDIT TO ADD: Blu62Vette mentions below that the sale will be in Boston, based on a thread started by Stewart Blay, yesterday on the Registry Forum, ... you would have thought that a collection of this magnitude would require serious and very well advanced advertisement. -------------------------------------------
Happy hunting everyone.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
I'd be shocked if it were - the sheer size and importance of this collection would necessitate much more advertisement.
Its still be handled very quietly by all parties involved. I think Saintguru [ Jay B.] would have made mention of it if it was going to be sold at the Boston ANA.
The article I read referred to the sale being at the January FUN show in Tampa - but Saintguru said it was going to be at the ANA. I assumed the Sacramento ANA in March - then again - it could be at the Chicago ANA next Summer [ 2011 ].
Regardless - I'll be there - regretably, sitting on my Bidding Paddle as 99.99% will be too rich for this collector.
EDIT TO ADD: Guess its offical - its the Boston ANA - as Heritage has already started to list coins from the Duckor collection.
OhMyGod - doGyMhO - Wow - woW
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Look at the future auctions part of the Heritage website. The Boston ANA signature sale already has a beginning listing of 20 coins from the Duckor set. I was waiting until someone else took notice, but was notified directly by Dr. Duckor that he was selling his set at the ANA. Look for the complete set of 74 (with micro O) to eventually be listed and described. The set will be on display at the Long Beach Show coming up.
This set will be an opportunity like no other for a complete gem set of barber halves to sell at auction, all a minimum of MS 66 with 28 coins having a plus designation. Two MS 68 coins including an MS 68+ and many, many MS 67 coins, a large number of coins are top pop and with a single example. I expect the catalog from this set to be a masterpiece with images and descriptions that will make this a must-have catalog for barber half collectors.
I will be carefully looking over which of the coins I will try to obtain from the sale for my set. Alas, without winning the lottery I will have to be quite selective in bidding on these terrific coins which will sell for new records across the board, if my predicitons hold. You can see the whole set imaged at CoinFacts (if you have a subscription), but the images are not currently attached to the registry set directly.
I look forward to this auction and hope to add a few of the marvelous coins to my humble set.
I recently had my Barber Dimes imaged - both the newly graded ones from the Dansco raw album - as well as the certified collection. I started another Thread to that effect a week or so ago. There are approximately 125 images attached to that Thread - I didn't want to bog down this Thread with so many images.
However, one newly imaged Dime was a recent upgrade for my 1898 Date Set...

I went to bed at 10PM - woke up at 4AM - tossed and turned till 4:45 - got up - made coffee - got on line - and you have to remember the time stamp is Pacific Daylight Savings Time - or 5:11 EDST.
You're right - you'd be surprised what you find early in the morning; ask Labelman87 - he's up everyday at 4:00 AM. [ just about until a few weeks ago...]
Glad you like the new 98-O Dime; I need two coins to finish my 1898 Date Set: 1898-S Quarter in 63-64 ... and ... 1898-S Morgan in 65 - 66.
Later...

I will be on a ten day backpacking trip near Taos, New Mexico . Maybe I'll find a bag of silver/gold coins from an old time stage coach robbery. I probably have a better chance of finding that, than a decent Barber at the show, with all of the "pros" out there.

Joe - you do pretty good for yourself - it seems you're getting a newp every day.
Enjoy Taos, NM. I don't think that's where the bag of MS Barber Dimes fell off the stage coach in the late 1890's...

the Duckor collection will be on display at Long Beach [ currently, although I heard its only a partial display ] and again on display at Baltimore and again at FUN. I'll see it at FUN and will be at the auction in Boston.

I'm truly sorry to say that the Number One set of Barber Halves is being sold at auction at ANA in August. Recently, Dr. Duckor submitted his collection to PCGS Secure and received numerous upgrades - either in the form of a Plus or with an Upgrade. All of these coins have been [ as I've been advised ] imaged by PCGS - "TruView" images are attached to Coin Facts.
I am hoping that the Tru-View images be attached to the collection itself; the images that are being taken by the auction company, Heritage, are decent but in no way compare to the quality that we've grown to expect from Phil in PCGS's imaging department.
I for one look forward to examine the Dr. Steven Duckor collection while I am at the FUN Convention in July [ its the primary reason for my going !! ].
I wish Dr. Duckor all the success in the upcoming auction and hope to be able to bid on a coin or two myself.
Thank you, Steve, for sharing your collection with us for so many years.

Haven't been buying too many Barbers lately, but I did pick up this 1909-S Dime in PCGS MS65 to upgrade my current MS64 (which will is available with Glenn Holsonbake). This one has a weak strike, but under some good light it's pretty and I just had to put a bid in at the price it was going

Nice images - glad you're getting into the swing of it.

Barber Dimes along side the newly certified Dimes in my Dime Thread.
Seems as if Fairlaneman was the only one to notice it.
Check out that Thread - I think you'll enjoy it.

Welcome to the PCGS Registry, RON APPEL, and thank you for posting
your great Quarter and Half Dollar sets here at PCGS.
For those who do not know Ron, he has his Barber sets registered ATS @ NGC
under the name of BarberKing.
As Ron's sets are virtually complete - a fraction of his coins can't be registered
here because the minority of his coins are in NGC holders.
I hope you're available to meet either at Summer FUN or at the ANA in Boston.
Now, Ron, get in touch with Todd at BluCCphotos and get some images taken !!!
