Mike, Awesome coins and awesome pics to match. I also love the toning on that 92-O. I haven't collected the quarters but your 1898 could easily change anyone's mind.
Can't remember if I've posted this one or not. Here is my 1892, has some blue toning from 7 to 9 o'clock. Tough to tell from the pic.
Thanks for posting the 1892-P Half from your collection; I liked it very much in hand last Summer when I viewed your set in Columbia, SC.
Now - I know you didn't take that image - or are you practising without telling us about it ? We all expect alot more images out of your collection; don't disappoint us now !!
I finally made the plunge...parting with some very sought after mid-grade Barber Halves. I've posted a note on the BST Forum for those that are interested...so I won't post the link here (because we're not supposed to)...but if you're interested, go to the BST page, type in Barber and it should pop-up. If you're having difficulty in finding the page on ebay send me a PM and I'll send you the link.
I have to get my QUARTER SET imaged. All of these great Halfs are !!!!!!!!
P.S. Glenn (Holsonbake Numismatics) thanks for the great service! (Love the 1910 QUARTER!!) Had to give you a public
Mike: After this where do you go??? Can't wait to see the dimes.

Glad you liked my 1910-P Quarter - I thought it was a nice coin. Good color as well. Looking forward to getting a look at your Quarter set - by the time you get your Quarters imaged, I should have mine done as well...which will be alot of fun comparing the two sets.
Where do I go from here ? Looks like it'll take me years to get all the Barber sets to where I'm completely satisfied. I have been playing with another set of IHC, but this time, with error coins. I went a bit overboard a few weeks ago at the Heritage auction.
I'll post more from home later tonight.

Don't even have one barber to post in this magnificent thread. Even if I did, wouldn't be the quality of those that are in this thread though. I have to say, that these barbers are absolutely gorgeous! That 1898 MS66 that was just posted....OMG!
Keep posting them guys, I got plenty of towels to clean up this drool!
All the images have been great [ wouldn't everyone agree ? ] and I look forward to be receiving the edits we discussed.
I left off with the 1901-O Half in PCGS 58... so here are a few more:
I found this 1902-S at FUN, 2008 at Stack's bourse table. Thanks again, Melissa !
This 1903-S was located at a Superior Galleries auction in October, 2000.
A wonderfully toned 1904- P Half bought in a Heritage Auction, in June, 2002.
Although I had at one time "the finest known PCGS AU 1904-S" from Dr. Shireman's collection, in PCGS 55, and at the time it was a POP- One in PCGS 55. Quickly the rumors started that this date was severly under priced based on the PCGS & CW price reports, someone let out of the bag what I paid for the AU 55. [ It was a "song" compared to what it sells for today. ]. A few years after I bought the AU 55, Harry Laibstain had a [ at that time ] another POP - One coin, the AU 58. Which I snapped up. [ Again, money brought out the remainder of the AU 58's and the total POP in AU 58 is now at "8". ] Needless to say, I'm very happy with this AU 58. Thanks again, Harry.
The 1905-P was a lucky find - on Teletrade no less - back in May, 2000.
The 1905-O has got to be the nemisis for every Barber Half Collector; its impossible to locate one and this beauty was purchased from Gary Hultman in March, 2006. I had the date in PCGS 64 at the time - but only wanted an AU 58. Almost immediately after I found this 05-O, I located another [ not as nicely toned as this coin, but just as choice in surface preservation ] which I sold to another collector who was as desperate as I was once. Needless to say, this coin was the last one I added to my set in AU condition.
The 1905-S is another sleeper in mid to high end AU condition. I have never seen an AU 58 in a PCGS holder for sale. This 1905-S came from the gals at JJ Teaparty, March, 2005 - who are very helpful in maintaining my want list.
The 1906-P was another nice coin from JJ Teaparty back in December, 1999. One of the first Halves I bought.
This 1906-D Half is considered a common date. This may be true in high grade MS grades and in lower circulated grades, however, it is another sleeper coin in high end AU - ie: AU 58. I actually located this beautifully toned coin at a very small local coin show in Fort Myers, Florida in December, 2007. I remember the day clearly, it was one of the few times my Dad [ then, just turned 90 ] ever accompanied me to a coin show. I appreciated Gary Lewis spending so much time with my Dad. We both had a great day. I came home with good memories and this great looking coin:
Okay - I have a large group of other coins to download, post at Photobucket, and attach them to my Registry sets before I post here on the Monster Barber Thread.
Todd... feel free to show the larger images.
Edited to add a few I missed the first go around.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Thanks for the shout out. I appreciate it very much.
Mike,
Fantastic coins and isn't Todd's work excellent. I think the thing that is most impressive about your halves is all have nice original surfaces, the O mint coins have better then average strikes, and while you can see here and there why they are 58's in the cases of those that are not MS coins they have exceptional eye appeal. A classic case of nice original 58's being more attractive then 62's and 63's here!
Thanks for the compliments and to be honest with you I can't say which one of my coins is my favorite - although it very well me the 1901-P Half [ ex: Queller ] .
I neglected to add this recently imaged coin in the last batch I posted above.
This coin was picked up in May, 2000 on a [gasp] Teletrade auction.
I now have to get the other images into my system - and onto the Registry set before I post them here. I had planned on doing this before bedtime last night but konked out early - so - I'm up early now...
This 1898-S Half was the primary reason I went to FUN last year because Dale Friend was auctioning off his collection. I was still under the false assumption that the year, 1898, was my Grandmother's birth year. The year was in actuality 1891 - and I learned that she had shaved off seven years off her age because she didn't want anyone to know her true age. Of course I didn't learn this fact until I tried to clear up the financial entanglements of my Father's estate, and learned that he had numerous life insurance policies with my Grandmother as the beneficiary. Oddly enough, I'm still working on the 1898 Mint Set... I guess, "in for a Penny, in for a Pound".
Anyhow...here's the 1898-S Half -
Another interesting story; this 1892-P Half Dollar was part of my Grandfather's collection which was given to me upon his passing in 1959. In the early 1960's I decided to give it a light bath in a very mild slurry of baking soda and water - very gently "thumbing" it in the palm of my hand - and rinsing it off in plenty of water - then gently patting it dry in a Turkish towel. I never "rubbed" it with a cloth, just my thumb... and I only patted it dry. Well 50 years later, I decided to get it holdered [ it spent 40 years in a 2x2 Cardboard holder; 8 years in an Eagle Hard Plastic holder and two years in a Dansco album.] PCGS couldn't be fooled... they knew something was up - even 50 years later - Its in a Genuine Altered Surface Grade...................
Recently I upgraded this date - so - now this coin will reside in my second tier collection
Also, this 1909-O was the finest AU I could locate until I found one last year in an NGC 58 holder in a Heritage auction; the NGC 58 coin crossed into a PCGS 58 holder; so, this AU 55 slides into my second tier set.
This 1896-P came from the "Gals at JJ Teaparty" back in October, 2003. Its a beautifully toned coin in hand.
The 1896-O in AU 58 is a bear - and I was outbid a year or two ago for one of the two AU 58's in a PCGS holder. That AU 58 sold for more than I ever thought possible - moon money - IMHO - and I had to jump ship in bidding when it crossed 11K. Here's the coin I was looking to replace...doesn't look so bad now, does it ? This coin came out of a Heritage auction in October, 2003.
This 1895-S also came from JJ Teaparty in July, 2003. Its a great looking coin, but, I recently upgraded this date with a 63. Again, this coin slides into the second tier set.
It seems as if I skipped over a dozen coins. I'll post them at another time. All together, Todd imaged over 83 coins. So, I'll recheck which ones I missed.
Personally, I would like to thank Todd for the wonderful job he has done with the images of my coins.
I should have sent all of the halves into be imaged but thought the images I had were nice enough. Most of the images I have posted are of coins that I had no images of what so ever - or were imaged in non PCGS holders. I now need to edit all my coins to remove non PCGS images.
PS: Todd, you can post the larger images if you wish. Thanks.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
<< <i>Mike, Great pictures of some great halves! Makes we want to throw mine away >>
Tom...you can throw them my way...I love all grades ... and having seen your set in person, I'd be proud to have another VF/XF set.
Craig... my favorite still resides in Dale Friend's collection. I just don't have the spare 200K to free it from the cold North to the sunny South.
There are a few coins belonging to the Norman Collection that I'd like to get my hands on as well; but if I were to choose just one in my own set, I'd have to say...
[ I can't believe I forgot how to post away from Photobucket ... ] EDIT: .....I forgot the word...."FORUMS."....
Click onto the attachment below... its my 1901-P in PCGS 64 - Ex: Queller - NGC 65 Star.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
1907-S - Heritage - November, 2000. Purchased raw [ one of their few raw auctions ]. Received the S/s.
1910-S - Larry Colado - May, 2004. This date was recently upgraded with a MS 64 - so this slides into the 2nd set. this is the 1910-S that replaces the above coin in my main set - PCGS 64 :
1912-D - JJ Teaparty - December, 1999 - One of the first Barber Halves purchased.
1913-P - JJ Teaparty - September, 2001:
1913-D - JJ Teaparty - February, 2000:
1913-S - eBay - November, 2004:
1914-S - JJ Teaparty - December, 2002:
1915-S - JJ Teaparty - April, 2003:
The next post will be devoted to the close up's of the 1892-P Half - TDR - with multiple images as well as the 1893/ 92-P Dime with many close up images - the 1905-O Micro O Dime close up O and lastly the 1907-S Half with the S/s RPM and close up's.
Todd, You can enliven this post now with the larger images if you so wish. Don't forget the 1906-P which I added as an edit to a previous post. Thanks.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Although I have quite a few iamges of the 1892-P Half with a Triple Die Reverse, I can not show them off to their best advantage because of some glitch in my system.
Todd will be adding the larger images - and you'll be able to see some amazing shots.
I requested a Die Designation on this coin when it was crossed over from ANACS in a 58 grade, I guess I wan't empathic enough in my request - or - it should have been put on a seperate submission form.
Here's the ANACS Holder image:
Here it is in its new PCGS case:
...and now ten images of different parts of the reverse...some very interesting shots too !!
Next... 1907-S Half with RPM.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Mike, nice pick-up on the 15-P. Thought that could have been you. Is the 97-s still impossible in 58? I know it was one of the last you needed. That 53 is very nice tho, as are all of the halves you've posted up in the last week.
Todd's images are amazing. I'll never post another crappy picture again, and I apologize for my last one a couple of pages back.
tombr: that's more my speed! Super coins!
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.

I can't say which one of my coins is my favorite - although
it very well me the 1901-P Half [ ex: Queller ] .
I neglected to add this recently imaged coin in the
last batch I posted above.
This coin was picked up in May, 2000 on a [gasp] Teletrade auction.
I now have to get the other images into my system - and onto the Registry set

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------EDIT:
This 1898-S Half was the primary reason I went to FUN last year
because Dale Friend was auctioning off his collection. I was still
under the false assumption that the year, 1898, was my Grandmother's
birth year. The year was in actuality 1891 - and I learned that she had
shaved off seven years off her age because she didn't want anyone to

up the financial entanglements of my Father's estate, and learned that

beneficiary. Oddly enough, I'm still working on the 1898 Mint Set...
I guess, "in for a Penny, in for a Pound".
Anyhow...here's the 1898-S Half -
Another interesting story; this 1892-P Half Dollar was part of my Grandfather's collection
which was given to me upon his passing in 1959. In the early 1960's I decided to give it
a light bath in a very mild slurry of baking soda and water - very gently "thumbing" it in the
palm of my hand - and rinsing it off in plenty of water - then gently patting it dry in a Turkish
towel. I never "rubbed" it with a cloth, just my thumb... and I only patted it dry.
Well 50 years later, I decided to get it holdered [ it spent 40 years in a 2x2 Cardboard holder;
8 years in an Eagle Hard Plastic holder and two years in a Dansco album.] PCGS couldn't be fooled...
they knew something was up - even 50 years later - Its in a Genuine Altered Surface Grade...................
Recently I upgraded this date - so - now this coin will reside in my second tier collection
Also, this 1909-O was the finest AU I could locate until I found one last year in an NGC 58 holder in a Heritage auction;
the NGC 58 coin crossed into a PCGS 58 holder; so, this AU 55 slides into my second tier set.
This 1896-P came from the "Gals at JJ Teaparty" back in October, 2003. Its a beautifully toned coin in hand.
The 1896-O in AU 58 is a bear - and I was outbid a year or two ago for one of the two AU 58's in a PCGS holder.
That AU 58 sold for more than I ever thought possible - moon money - IMHO - and I had to jump ship in bidding

out of a Heritage auction in October, 2003.
This 1895-S also came from JJ Teaparty in July, 2003. Its a great looking coin, but,
I recently upgraded this date with a 63. Again, this coin slides into the second tier set.
It seems as if I skipped over a dozen coins. I'll post them at another time.
All together, Todd imaged over 83 coins. So, I'll recheck which ones I missed.
Personally, I would like to thank Todd for the wonderful job
he has done with the images of my coins.
I should have sent all of the halves into be imaged but thought the images I
had were nice enough. Most of the images I have posted are of coins that I had no images

Tom...you can throw them my way...I love all grades ... and having seen your set in person,
I'd be proud to have another VF/XF set.
Craig... my favorite still resides in Dale Friend's collection. I just don't have the spare 200K
to free it from the cold North to the sunny South.
There are a few coins belonging to the Norman Collection that I'd like to get my hands on as well;
but if I were to choose just one in my own set, I'd have to say...
[ I can't believe I forgot how to post away from Photobucket ...
EDIT:
.....I forgot the word...."FORUMS."....
Click onto the attachment below... its my 1901-P in PCGS 64 - Ex: Queller - NGC 65 Star.

I mentioned that I would post die varieties on a seperate post.
Here's the 1893/92 Dime...there are alot of images - but - I thought
these were sufficient to get the point accross.

Here are some images of my 1905-O Micro O Dime:
For comparison purposes, the Normal O Mint Mark:
Sorry the Normal O coin's images are so small.
Todd's next image assignment will be my Barber Dimes.
I'm just waiting for the raw set to come back from the grading room.
Next: 1892-P Half - Tripple Reverse Die.

Although I have quite a few iamges of the 1892-P Half
with a Triple Die Reverse, I can not show them off to
their best advantage because of some glitch in my system.
Todd will be adding the larger images - and you'll be able
to see some amazing shots.
I requested a Die Designation on this coin when it was
crossed over from ANACS in a 58 grade, I guess I wan't
empathic enough in my request - or - it should have been
put on a seperate submission form.
Here's the ANACS Holder image:
Here it is in its new PCGS case:
...and now ten images of different parts of the reverse...some very interesting shots too !!
Next... 1907-S Half with RPM.

The 1897-S in PCGS 53 doesn't have an RPM...
its the 1907-S...
Fixed!!!
I picked this one up tonight - even though I have a MS 64 -
I always wanted an AU 58 - and I sold my AU 55 a month
or so ago - when I got the 64.
Now, the 64 goes in a MS Date Set - and the
AU 58 goes in the Complete Barber Half Set.

I was very surprised at first when the RPM was on the 97-S
as I have owned that coin for some time and never noticed
the doubled MM.
Glad that got straightened out.
