Friends, As I noted earlier, my wife and I traveled down to Naples Florida this weekend to visit Mike. First of all I must say that Naples is a beautiful city. Shortly after we arrived, my wife said "I am falling in love with Naples." Everyone we encountered was very friendly and I would highly recommend Naples for a vacation trip.
As Mike said above, we looked at and talked about Barber coins for four and half hours. I have never seen so many Barber coins in one place! For someone who only has five coins, this was alittle overwhelming to say the least. There were too many to list but a few great ones are still etched in my mind. They are as follows: 1892 micro o (EX Shireman) 1898s half (Ex Friend) 1911s half (Ex Friend) 1913 s quarter
Mike I would like to thank you for allowing me to visit with you and see your great collection. Maybe we can do this again someday.
Mike, Congratulations on your purchase of the Red Stick Collection. It is truly a reflection of circulated Barber Halves...terrific looking coins...real specimens that are hard to find and difficult to acquire. I hope you get many years of enjoyment from them. newbarberguy
Happy New Year Barberites. I continue pursuit of my evenly matched Dansco set of Halves in Fine. As last year wasn't "all that" economically for me, I dabble no longer in the green fields of XF. So here is a newp for the Decade of Readjusted Priorities. I'd like to think my eyes are just as good even though the coins are a little more worn down (except for focusing a camera!).
1905-P
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
Seems like all the Barber collectors are still trying to warm up everywhere around the country. F.U.N. was very cold and everyone complained - but it is a refreshing change for us Floridians.
F.U.N. was busy as far as I was concerned and I wished I could have stayed for the weekend as well. Three days just isn't enough to accomplish what I set out to do. I missed dozens of dealers I wanted to meet.
Meeting fellow collectors really made the experience all the more enjoyable. I'm very pleased that collectors were able to make it to Denny's for the informal gathering.
My best regards to all I spent time with - old friends and new as well.
My newps will be imaged by Todd / Blu62Vette - and I'll post them as I receive them. One of my new coins is from [Glenn] Holsonbake Numismatics - a very attractive 1902-O Half in PCGS 64 with a CAC green sticker. The coin has Proof Like surfaces and it also is one of the strongest strikes I've ever seen on an 02-O Half.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Kathleen always has some really nice Barbers - and she's a joy to work with too.
BillyGoatsGruff, those are some very nice dimes you have there !!
I've decided to have my raw Dansco Barber dimes holdered - knowing that there are quite a few AU 58's in that set - and maybe some that I need for my AU 58 certified collection.
Prior to the submission, I'll have Blu62Vette [ Todd ] do some group shots of the pages and again when the coins return from PCGS - for individual shots.
This set was available for viewing at Glenn Holsonbake's table at FUN - and quite a few collectors made mention of it to me. Its a very attractive set and I've enjoyed it in its raw state for fifteen years.

Mike,
I wish I was at FUN to see your dimes. If you get the chance, after imaging, please post some for us. And yes, Katy at Pinnacle is great to work with and always has a great selection of coins.
I haven't posted to the Barber mega thread in a while, so here's a couple of my newps that I picked up at FUN. Both Barber quarters are in PCGS, AU-55, OGH's, both have a BCCS rarity rating of R5, and both have nice luster.....which doesn't come across to well in my scans.
Barberman55 - wow - very nice quarters! I had a chat with one of my dealer friends at FUN re: the 11D quarter. He said this date is very tough in F and higher, and he buys them every time he finds them if the price is reasonable. I bought the F+ he had on Thur. When I checked back with him late on Sat, he had just purchased another in the same grade, and had paid more for it than what he had sold me mine at!

Thanks Greg, I always liked the 11-D too, and the 04-O, and 05-O and 09-O.....so many tough dates in the set besides the big 3. I wish I could have met you at FUN.
Mike,
Beautiful 11-D half, lots of luster peeking out through that toning!
From my totally unbiased objective point of view this is the best thread ever posted on the U.S. coin forum.
The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.
Please God - don't let me start a set of Quarters in XF ....
Nice looking Quarters there - I know the 08-S is a tough coin in a mid range grade - and I love the look of the 1916 too !!
BillyGoatsGruff - very nice 1905-S Dime - the Provenance of that coin is that it came out of Paul Savoie's collection about 2 1/2 years ago to my set and I loved it until I saw the current MS 64 in my set. Its a great looking coin and I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.
The 11-D Quarter is a very difficult date in AU 55's and I never saw one available in 55 or 58 while I was assembling my set. I ended up buying a coin from Dale Friend's collection in PCGS 64 [ before he upgraded to his 66 {?} - don't remember what exact grade he ended up with - but rest assured - I bet it was a beauty !! ]
I had a great looking 04-O Quarter in AU 55 but Glenn Holsonbake showed me a wonderful one in PCGS 64 - which is now in my collection.
Dan - congrats on your newps - you were mighty quiet about them at FUN; and its not like we didn't see each other - but I wanted to hear if you did land that Seated Dollar you lusted after...
The cold snap in Florida is gone - and its mid to high 70's here in Naples and high 60's in Tallahassee ... perfect weather. Too bad FUN was so early in January. Next year FUN is in Tampa - and I have no clue as to the surrounding area for hotels, resturaunts and places of interest.
Here's a little something for my Dime set - its just missing the Mint Mark " S "...
... and of course, I had to buy the matching Quarter while browsing the Bourse Floor but no images yet. Blu62Vette will be doing those images for me in a few weeks.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Marauderrt10 - you almost blinded me with the first coin in your post - 1904 Quarter - WOW.
Beboplawyer - I bid on the 11-D live same as you did - but there was a glitch - I was high bidder by three bidding increments when the lot opened - I was soon out bid - I rebid - got out bid - rebid again - then the screen went crazy - it reopened at my programmed highest bid and I won he lot.

AZ is exactly like Florida was for FUN, cold and rainy. In fact it's supposed to rain everyday for at least the next week!
As long as they return the Dimes to my address, I won't mind the charge
Keep going in sequence Moldnut, we'd love to see your 13-s and 14-s JUST like these! Really nice coins, all kidding aside. Both tough dates in those grades, to say the least.
Mike, you've got me soooooo close to buying the Dansco Dime folder at the San Jose show this weekend and starting it up. So close.
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
Thanks, it was a labor of love and I never thought I'd ever finish it, let alone work on and complete a certified set as well.
The 1902-P is a beauty as well as the 1898-S but the hardest one to locate was the 09-S which I bought certified. The next most difficult was the 04-S. Followed closely were the 07-O & 08-O. [ The 07-O was in a PCGS 58 holder but I cracked it out.]
I'm slowly working on a Liberty Head Nickel set in certified AU 58 + and was able to find this on eBay [ I had some eBay Bucks to use up so, this was almost "free" ]

Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
