Dimeman - Joe mentioned himself that he bought it as a F 12.
I still think its a F12 - but without having the coin in hand its
difficult to tell whether or not the images were too fuzzy to give a fair grade.

JMW, nice coins and congrats on your grades at PCGS.
Been out of the country for the awhile and wasn't able to view any of the photos...lots of nice newp's and great pics too! Was amazed that the XF-45 04-S sold for as much as it did...certainly is a nice coin! Anybody know who purchased it? Whoever it was got a premium specimen!
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the hunt to fill those holes! Dave
Very pretty coins being posted.....keep em coming!
Here's a Charles Barber design that's not posted very often on this thread. I normally don't carry Commemorative/Hawaiian, type coin's in my inventory, but I made an exception with this beauty. The Hawaiian quarter has a great original look, with beautiful teal, blue, and russet toning over semi proof-like fields. The coin is housed in a PCGS, AU-55 holder.
Don Soles should be piping-up about that Hawaiian - he has a few nice examples himself.
Have had a lot of free time recently [ I developed Lymphedema in my right leg ] and have not been to work in two weeks. Be that as it may - its on the mend via a slow boat from China.
As a result of all my free time, I've scoured the websites looking for anything that catches my eye; I'm sorry to report, there really isn't very much fresh material out there [ nothing new about that, as all I ever hear from Show-Reports is the lack of fresh material. ] But - I sort of figured, with the whole Internet at my finger tips - and - I still can't find new material ?
I'm thrilled to have been able to get the two newps from B&M this week however - both nice upgrades - the 1895-S Quarter was on my schedule to upgrade my AU 55... but the 1899-P Half was a last minute decision to bid on - [ the bids were so low up until the end, I threw in a low ball bid - and won the coin. I paid what I consider MS 62 money for a MS 64 coin. ]
I have noticed a slight weakening of prices accross the board on MS coins - but the mid range circulated Halves are as strong as ever for eye appealing coins. My recent addition of the 1914-S Half in PCGS 40 [ ex: DJF on eBay ] is a prime example. I had to become aggressive in my initial bidding or I would have been S.O.L. I lost three coins to a "newby" who was bound and determined to have them... and...he paid dearly for that privelidge. A few seasoned bidders [ 3,000 star rated dealers ] have also been very aggressive in their bidding as well. When I get beat out by one of these dealers - I really have to reassess my bidding strategies.
Just rambling on a beautiful Saturday morning - 76 degrees here - no humidity - bright blue skies... have a great week end, all.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
You did well with those lovely NEWPS, really really nice. I saw DJF had been putting up Barbers recently, but none caught my fancy-- he gets some nice midgraders as much as any dealer on ebaY. And the cost to own some of these midgraders is getting a little prohibitive unless you know that you want to keep it for a while...
Yes, Dan, that is a lovely Hawaiian and I can only imagine in person that the colors and underlying luster make it a phenomenal coin!
You'll be surprised at my latest Hawaiian pickup; when it comes in I'll image and post it if it's worthy. Still looking for circulated Hawaiian's in OGHs. Need the cent, quarter and dala. Have 2 10c, 1 50c and the others are in newer gen. holders. I just like the OGHs, green is my favorite color though they same I am red-green color blind, I can still see the obvious greens no problem.
Thankfully, our back yard did not flood with our recent NEaster-- we received over 8 inches of rain but since it was spread out over 24 hrs, we had no problems. Unfortunately the downtown Norfolk and VA BEACH people do poorly even in a summer downpour-- they are under water big time-- and the coastal erosion was awful for those folks.
I'm on call at the hospital this weekend, y'all be good and stay healthy!!

I agree, there's not a lot of fresh material that I saw. I drove down to the Baltimore show yesterday (In the pouring rain &*^$%*&^!) and did manage to pick up some nice fresh coins, but in scouring the whole floor I only saw 4 coins that worked for me. Granted I was mainly looking for Halves and not dimes.
I did see 2 1892-O Halves at the show in PCGS VF plastic, one was a real frightpig that was retoned, I looked at the coin and it was, by far, the absolute WORST coin I have ever seen in PCGS plastic, I'm not sure that NNC or SGS would have slabbed it. Then Glenn Holsonbake had a really nice 92-O in VF25 that I picked up, JJ Teaparty also had an 04-S and 07-S dimes that I picked up that they just got back from PCGS. I also snagged a nice raw 1913 half for reasonable money that I submitted at the show.
Most of what I saw were the usual... piles upon piles of AG-VG Halves, a bunch of AU and MS stuff and the usual raw stuff that was badly messed with. But then again, looking at my set, I realize that the dates that I now need are pretty much all very tough ones.

No wonder Larry at SeaEagle buys me out of original VF halves at Ask money whenever I offer any....anyway, sorry to hear about your predicament, Mike. Hopefully you'll be up and rarin' to go by the FUN show. And please feel free to ramble any time you want - it always makes for interesting reading!
Mike, Congrats on the newps...very nice looking coins. Sorry to hear about your leg and hope you recover soon. Gotta watch those "newbies"...when "Barber fever" strikes they get very pesty in their bids.
I saw the 05-S on Ebay and was contemplating a bid myself. The coin looks real nice, has a great strike, and cool looking toning. Last night on Ebay, it was choice between the 05-S Barber half or a Seated dollar that I needed for my PCGS registry set.....I decided to go with the Seated dollar. Congratulations on a great pickup, it's one of those tougher date Barber halves. PM sent!
I have managed to fill a few holes in the Half and Dime set plus finally get off my very lazy butt and image some coins that I bought and made. I did quite well at Baltimore, like Philly I found 2 halves, at Philly I found a 97-O and a 97-S, at Baltimore I found a 13-P and a 92-O!)
Baltimore newp from Glenn Holsonbake... 1892-O in PCGS VF25!
Here's a funny one... I got this tonight from Rob Brigandi of Brigandi Coin (Who happens to be a customer of mine at my dealership!) It's a VF25, It replaced an XF40! Well... I want the set in VF!..... Yeah Rob thought I was nuts too.
And this came in the mail today from Teletrade... PCGS VF30 1897
Along with this... I don't like it in hand, I need to replace it... how this got in a holder is beyond me.. Pig of a 1902-O in VF35
Here's a 1903-O that I made from a raw coin, PCGS VF20
And my other purchase from Rob tonight, a 1905-P, a TOUGH coin to find. PCGS VF20
Here's a 1910-P that I bought raw at CoinFest from Ira Meltzer, it came back VF30 from PCGS
Here's a 1914-P that I bought raw... I didn't think it was going to make 20 but that it had a slim shot, PCGS called it F15
And onto the dimes... Newps from Baltimore from JJ teaparty..
1904-S in PCGS VF20
And a beautiful PCGS VF35 1907-S dime
I'm better at taking pics than I am at Neurosurgery, but only just...

Manorcourtman, that's one purty 11-D...love the tone...bet it's even prettier in hand. My guess would be AU-53 but I would defer to MFH and others on this one.
I don't know what grey sheet for Fine 12 is but for the record I gladly paid whatever he told me he wanted. Leathery old Fines just speak to me. Always have.
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
Just got this spectacular neon toned 1892 dime. The finest I've handled by a long shot. Sorry for the crappy angled pic, I don't have much skill photographing! The pics are using natural sunlight and the pics are not altered in any way. The pics don't show the blazing luster. It has some very nice clashing on both front and back......
That really is some cool clashing on the 92 dime! Thanks for sharing!
And that 05o Fine in the Dansco is absolutely PQ for the grade. Glenn H. has an awesome eye for Barbers, ... in his former days as collector and now as dealer!
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
Dogwood, glad you like her. As for my raw coins that is the project after Houston. It has been a very hectic schedule with my 10th show in 10 weeks coming up in Salem this weekend then off to Houston.
I am far behind on my certified coins on the site too but with some of the show turnaround being so tight, especially since I stay the whole show it's been pretty tough to stay caught up. I had 2 days between Santa Clara and Baltimore plus the flight back and forth. Then of course my computer crashed Saturday in Baltimore so that didn't help. LOL
Nice 11-D I would say 53 with a shot at 55 just on the eye appeal.
Thanks for the kind words guys. I try hard to find them but.....
I have to say finding these is a lot of work and they go out faster then I can get them. I am working on a deal now that will hopefully bring some fresh ones of all 4 Barber series into inventory. If they are as nice as advertised (all sets are reportedly F-AU and supposedly with original surfaces) I will be making a strong bid to get them and several of them will be going in for grading hopefully. That is if I get them!
The reverse of the coin(s) imaged below is an 1896-P. The halve on the right is the picture that was displayed when I purchased the coin on ebay. The halve on the left is the picture of a halve that I took today. Do you think they're the same coin?
Here's one of my NEWPs. I already had this date; don't ask me why I bought another. Maybe because this one is slabbed. Anyway, I like it and thought I'd share.
JMW, Yes the images of the reverse are of the same coin...the image on the left is a better representation of the coin's true color and appearance...the darker image on the right is from the ebay seller. The coin is actually a beauty...would say VF-35...obverse has toned to a very nice battleship gray with no obvious harlines or evidence of cleaning or altered surfaces. The reverse is also very nice...except for some tooling marks. If you look closely and compare the two images you can make them out. Evidence of tooling is present between the eagle's left leg and tail feathers; between the eagle's talons on its right leg and tail feathers (near where the talon and olive branch stem intersect); just below the eagle's right wing tip extending from the E in UNITED; inside the letters D and O in DOLLAR. It appears someone may have tried to remove dirt or grime from those areas with a pin or pocket knife. Scratch marks are more visible with a looking glass.
My point in surfacing this issue is that I believe the ebay photo was doctored to conceal the the tooling marks. But to be fair, it is also possible that this particular dealer just takes dark pictures that brings out more detail but obscures others.
I am acutley aware that one must examine every purchased coin in excruciating detail...and I failed to do this...as I was so fascinated with the coin that I hurriedly rushed it off to PCGS to grade...and was surprised when it came back "cleaned and tooled". I have no buyer's remorse...too late for that...but I did want to present this as a lesson for new Barber collectors. I think a good lesson here is this: - a large coin seller or dealer on ebay doesn't necessarily equal trustworthiness; I'm sure if I approached the dealer with my concerns in a timely manner, this could have been resolved - examine every coin purchased online to ensure it's the coin advertised and is a good representation of the photo; be watchful of doctored photos - if you find the coin has serious imperfections or is not to your liking, settle up with the seller in the allotted time
Hope this information was of value and useful to those that tread the waters of ebay!
Thanks for sharing your experience about this coin. You're right its too late for buyers remorse; you'll be more careful next time when buying raw coins.

He bought a great looking 05-O in PCGS Fine 15 on eBay the other night and
paid XF 40 money for it. Tombr mentioned to me he has less in his XF 40 than
that F 15...
The 05-O is IMHO one of the hardest coins to find in any collectible grade
[ie: holdered by a TPG of merit.]
I forgot about another 05-O a week ago in a PCGS 30 holder [ looked VF 25 max to me ]
and the auction was over before I had a chance to bid on it. It closed at $210.

Yes the images of the reverse are of the same coin...the image on the left is a better representation of the coin's true color and appearance...the darker image on the right is from the ebay seller. - a large coin seller or dealer on ebay doesn't necessarily equal trustworthiness; I'm sure if I approached the dealer with my concerns in a timely manner, this could have been resolved
