Mike, your color barbers are truly amazing!
Here's my newest addition and I am the new proud owner of this half that once owned by you true experts. Care to share who else owned it and for how long? I'm just thrilled to be part of this barbmily
Beautiful 04-O Half Brian. Holy smokes. I would have loved to have put my set together in circulated cameo but I fear there are some dates that jst don't have any circulated cameos in XF45.
OK... I think I need to break this up into a few posts.
These are the results of my latest submissions, 21 that I made myself and 4 that I have bought somewhat recently (1 of which I haven't imaged but have had it for a few weeks)
Let's start with dimes...
The first two are raw, a 1907 I picked up from SeaEagleCoins and a 1915-S that I got off the BSTR from Walkerguy21D (Thanks guys!) These are going to PCGS for my VF Dime Set.
Here's the 4 that I just made in my last submission...
1900-P made XF45
1903-P made XF40
1913-P Made VF20
1914-P made VF30
I'll start on the Halves in the next post...
Bear's "Growl of Approval" award 10/09 & 3/10 | "YOU SUCK" - PonyExpress8|"F the doctors!" - homerunhall | I hate my car
The first 3 are raw coins, I'm going to give them a shot at grading I think they are all pretty good VF20 shots. I got the 04-O and 06-S also off the BST from Walkerguy21D and the 09-S from SeaEagleCoins. Thanks again!
Here's an 1892-P that I bought raw, PCGS Graded it Genuine for cleaning... i've seen and I own MUCH MUCH worse in PCGS plastic oh well.. crack party time.
Here's an 1894-O that I bought off of eBay
Time for ones that I have made... 1895-P that made VF35
1895-O that made VF20
Bought this.. 1898-S in VF25
Made this.. 1900-P made XF40, this was one I was unsure of due to the hit on the cheek.
Made this one too, 1900-S VF25
More to come.. quite a few more actually..
Bear's "Growl of Approval" award 10/09 & 3/10 | "YOU SUCK" - PonyExpress8|"F the doctors!" - homerunhall | I hate my car
The color that comes off most of the Halves - is a greenish - purple - can't say what's causing it.
Nice pick up's though. >>
Calling Dr Goodman... calling Dr Mark Goodman... you are needed in the Monster Barber thread
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free
Bill - astounding grouping of nice original halves assembled in a fairly short period of time. Larry - you gonna post your newps on the mega thread? I KNOW you have just acquired a substantial quantity of nice Barber material
You know, to me this is actually a bit of a form of gambling. Personally having these in plastic isn't that big of a deal to me, but it's a combination of not only putting a set together in VF which is a challenge in and of itself, but I am having a lot more fun submitting them, so far I have submitted myself 24 Halves and got grades on 20 of them with 4 getting thrown into Genuine holders. 3 made XF and 2 made F15, so I suppose that's 15 for 24, which I suppose isn't too bad, unfortunately one of the F15s was a 1914-P
Bear's "Growl of Approval" award 10/09 & 3/10 | "YOU SUCK" - PonyExpress8|"F the doctors!" - homerunhall | I hate my car
Now that I've finally figured out how to post images, I've been really eager to ask the folks in this thread whether they think PCGS would slab this coin, and for your estimate of the grade. I know what I think. What do you think?
Thanks!

Tony,
My guess would be F 12 - not strong enough for a 15. I'm not too sure if PCGS will holder the coin with a grade because of the crust on the lower left obverse.
Hard to tell...but its a tough date ... and "The" key date.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Mike beat me to it but I would agree with him. I think it's an F-12, personally I think it's got a decent shot, but you also may get Gen'd for environmental damage.
Ifn it were me I might just give it a swim in acetone first, but that's me and YMMV
Bear's "Growl of Approval" award 10/09 & 3/10 | "YOU SUCK" - PonyExpress8|"F the doctors!" - homerunhall | I hate my car
My first guess was VG-10. The letters in LIBERTY are a touch weak for a Fine grade. However, it appears to be nice for the grade and might get bumped up.
Thanks for the feedback on my 95-O dime above. I concur with the opinion expressed, and bought the coin as an F-12 at the time of purchase. Since it seems to be cool, I shall probably repeat this when I get around to photographing the other tough dates in my Barber dime collection.
A collector buddy of mine hypothesized that it go a bit higher, based on obverse strike weakness/die characteristics (particularly re: the headband) that he believes is consistent on 90s dimes from New Orleans.
Opinions on this theory?

There's a good amount of B/W photo's especially the keys... nice mention of the 1904-S Reed Hawn 50c which although not as nice as Stacks still Gem and fetched $525 in 1973.
When have I ever borrowed an image... I've owned that O/C 07-S for 3-4 years.
Here's a borrowed scan or two for you of the same coin before it was sent to PCGS.
And a few more borrowed images of Barbers I own.
Oops I've run out of images to borrow

I think you guys are being hard on Tony's 95-O. The outline of the bottom of the wreath on the obv is complete, which is vf detail. And the leaf detail on the rev. looks vf also. The pic looks blurry so the liberty and band look weaker than they really are. Am I right Tony?

Not sure if it's the lighting in my kitchen (Those were taken on top of an Ironing board!) or my horrible photography skills.
I do see the tine you're talking about...
Still cropping pics, took photos of 21 slabbed halves so I have more to post.

1901-P that I made, came back 20, I think they net graded it for, shall we say, excessive surface crustiness (it's very lightly corroded)
1902-P VF20, I made this one too
1903-P that made VF30
1906-D that made VF-20
1907-P that made XF40
1907-D that made VF25
1908-D that made VF30
1908-S in VF30 that I bought
More to come in the next post...
1909-P that made VF20
1909-S that made F15 oops.
1911-P that made VF30
1911-D that made VF35
1913-D that made VF35
1915-D that made XF40!
That's it for now... I'm beat
I'll image the others when they come back from PCGS.
Pretty cool that you got two 1909-S Barber Halves too, one of them FS-501 w/ inverted mintmark and one w/o.
