  • << <i>I just sent in 11 (8s) and 2 (7s) for my free registry gradings under reviews. The new registry allowed my to add team sets without re-typing certs and let me qualify for a batch of 13 free grades. I'm of course hoping to pop a 537 8.5. Lots of other fun cards as well. It was a mix of cards some with perfect centering, some with 9 corners but a little OC. Of the 13 I'm predicting one full bump on one of the 7s, and three half pointers on the 8s. Won't pretend to guess which if any will get the nod, but fingers are crossed for #1, #537, and #540. >>

Good luck on those, Soren! Let's see some scans when they come back!

Hard to say if it was worth it. The good news is that I still have plenty of candidates for 8.5s. image

The Ramos was the card I had pegged for a full bump. Didn't happen. I did predict correctly the total number of bumps, but I honestly don't remember the characteristics of the cards that made the cut. Other than of course #1 and #537 didn't make it.

I'll post some scans and offer more opinions when I get the cards in hand.
  • Nice Job on the Killebrew.....Sorry about the Rose, do you plan on reviewing that one on down the line again? I planned on sending in a few of mine for review, but I just couldnt stomach spending the money to have a card graded again after I have already paid once for it.

They cracked out 3 of your cards to put them in new holders without changing the grade. #1 leaders, Kaline and Rose RC. The question is why on earth would they risk that on a such a high dollar card ? And why not do that to all of them ? They didn't want to risk it on the Clemente, right ? I'm glad nothing happened to them, but I don't like that they would do that.

O yeah, and gorgeous cards. My '63 Kaline has that exact same cut, and I've seen quite a few that are cut like that.

You nailed it. I actually asked them to change holders on the #1 and #25 even if they didn't bump. Both those holders had cracks. The Rose is a mystery. There were stick notes detailing mostly side-to-side centering as the reason cards didn't bump. No note on the Rose either.

With my small sample of '63s and the notes I got on my submission, I'd say make sure the side-to-side centering is nice for you go looking for bumps. I'll probably try again at some point, but I'm worried that my Rose is now marked.

  • Leadof4...whatever grade did your '63 come back as? Following this thread I do not see any? Working on this set myself now as I'm only 26 cards from finishing my '64 set...I still need around 159 cards for my '63 set...the problem I have is somehow I went from a PSA 8 buyer to a PSA 9-10 buyer...why I have no idea...

Someone please shoot me and put me out of my misery....

Any of you 63 collectors have a Hank Aaron in 7 or 8? I have been in the market for awhile now and have yet to find a nicely centered one. I am willing to bend alittle on t/b but do not like the ones that are off l/r. Feel free to PM with anything you might have.

It is time to refresh this thread. The 1963 Topps set is one of my absolute favorites, a close second behind the 1959 Topps set. This set is just so gorgeous and so classic. The Mays card has always been one of my favorites....a combination of the classic pose, the colors on the card and the sheer beauty of the card. This one just screams classic vintage baseball cards to me. image

A good year for Giants. The Marichal, Cepeda and Felipe Alou cards are all screamers, too.

Just when I had began to forgive myself for losing out on the partial 1963 graded sets during the REA auctions, this thread re-appears.

I'm going send another batch for bumps and I'll post the results. I traded the Killebrew 8.5 I received back from PSA, for a straight Killer 8 and to other 8s I needed. Now I'm going to try to bump those three again. image
  • marinermariner Posts: 2,603 ✭✭✭✭
good luck on those bumps....trading 8.5's to get more 8's for your collection is a good move.....it sure will make your dollars go further as you complete your set, won't it? Good luck with that, Sagard!

Just had a new submission returned from PSA. I was surprised to see that card #194 has no PSA 9's in the pop report and this is the first PSA 8.5. Not too many cards left in the set that does not have at least a couple of 9's graded by now.

Can someone please clue me in on how that Nuxie got bumped from 8 with that enormous and hideous printer mark? I have had dozens of 8's under review with P.D.'s similar to that and they alwyas get marked "P.D." and no bump?

I recently posted my 1959 set to the Registry, and I devoted it to Harvey Haddix's perfect game of that year.

Well, I sent in my 1963 Topps set to PSA, and I got back two 9s. Look who one of them was!
