Don---they are pages from the Topps 1959 Rookie Banquet program. The dinner occurred in October of 1959 after the season was done and announced the results of voting that Topps sponsored by inserts and handouts for an all rookie team to appear on cards in 1960. Hence the McCovey and Green cards we are more familiar with in the 1960 set rather than the ones pictured in the program in the 1959 format.

As you know in 1959 Topps had the Sporting News rookie card subset, an unimposing group for the most part. For years after that Topps solicited customer votes for the players to appear on future cards, which were announced each year at a Banquet in NY in October. I have a run of those programs from 59, the first one, through 1966. Have not seen any subsequent to that year. The best known of the Rookie Banquet programs is the one for 1964 because it was in the form of a boxed cards set that included the Pete Rose rookie selection and is quite pricey. The programs are all hard to come by today

    image

This is the last Banquet program I am aware of

    image

This is some parts of the 64 "program"

    image

I do not have any programs from 1967 through 1980. Beginning in 1981 the programs looked like this. But based on the Banquet numbers, they had the awards in the years 1967 to 1980, although I have not seen any programs for those years. Nor have I seen any after 2004.

That is a range of 50 to 68. As far as I know senior is still alive at 79, so 50 ( -6) seems more "normal "

Don, that is an amazing card! How do you end up with cards like that? I mean, where do you find them? Seems to be in a new slab, so is it right to think that that 56 year old card has been hanging out somewhere in pristine condition until recently?

    Thanks, everyone.

Dan, that is my PSA 9 card that was so nice, I decided to try the review process and it worked. It got bumped to PSA 10 recently. I am pretty happy with that one!
