No retail love in Milwaukee....have opened 3 full boxes and parts of three others...all from area Target stores. In all, 134 packs and one relic (manny cc) and one auto, a b.s. Team Topps Leyritz that only ticked me off because it has no business being in such a beautiful set for a number of reasons.
I'm thinking some were pilfered through and the "pack #14" removed.
A few thoughts...
-Earlier post was right on. Too many scrubs earning SP designation. What is their fascination with Matt Stairs?
-Disappointed that only 10 players have variation cards this year. 20 last year. It's fun to have multiple images of the stars, or fun variations in the photo (old logo caps last year, for example).
-Among those 10, only five (Clemens, Pujols, ARod, A.Jones, Tejada) feature two different images. The other five, a variance in the color of the type. Is is just me, or is this a complete lack of creativity on Topps part ... correct me if they're trying to be true to 1957 variations and I'm unaware.
-Unlike another poster, I'm a little more bothered by the Heritage logo on the front of the card. One look at guy on the front, or the stats on the back tells me I'm NOT looking at a 57 original. For who's benefit was this decision made? A shame.
-As someone who won't buy more than 7-8 boxes, I'm bummed that they so dramatically increased the number of relic cards. 15 was attainable for me via trades and e-bay (only looking for Banks/Schoendinst). But 50? Too many.
Hoping not to sound TOO negative, though, because they are still the coolest cards on the market. They brought me back to trading for the first time since the late '80s glut (anyone need '87 Topps!!) and I'll try to put the site together as long as they put it out.
Anyway, that's 2 cents from a relative newcomer who has lurked this message board for awhile and only now posting. I've traded with a few of you, and looking forward to many more (especially those who have extra 2006 they are willing to trade for extra 2005). Happy pack busting!
<< <i>WOW, lots of heritage action today, Some major pulls from retail. I knew the early retail was gold.....now if I can only find some!
I must say that this set is waaaaaay easier to put together than last, granted the light backs were a surprise, this set might actually fit in a 2 inch binder versus the 3-4 of the past sets. I have bought the pages and will be loaded them soon. Has anyone else put their set in pages yet??
Thanks Kevin >>
Kevin,
I'm still a bunch of SP's short and I can't wait to start putting what I have in a binder so I can look at.
But I'm afraid as soon as I do, one of you guys will say, "Hey, look, a variation of card #XXX"
Then I'd be in for a lot of work.
If you're all confident the current list up is the list, I'll start putting mine in binders soon, then can fill in the slots with retail and trades.
<< <i>Perry - that's nothing - one of our local Wal Marts had a fresh box of '89 Donruss for $0.97 a pack. Man, that was really tough to resist.

we have that too! lol.. and some old school Pro Set hockey (in the blue box), and some Score Traded baseball sets (i think 1990 or 1991).. and of course some 1990 donruss baseball..
The player selction seems pretty odd. Todd Hollandsworth with the Cubs? He was traded by Chicago to Atlanta on August 29th, 2005, and played 24 games with the Braves to finish the season.
I'm guessing the collation was really good in this case, notice I'm not missing too many SP's. It seems that I made up for SP dupes and a few other inserts with the bigger cards......no complaints here.
I just won 4 retail boxes on eBay, should be here late this week, early next week-will do some more trading then. Jeff (mudflap), Geordie, & Dan.......you have PM's. Will catch up to you tomorrow.
I have enjoyed reading the thread and have been on the tipping point of joining the fray but have decided to remain true to other pursuits. Well I ended up in the checkout line of target tonight and had to buy a few packs. Great looking cards with a solid feel to them. Love the photos. To get to the point, I ended up with a Keith Foulke #69 chrome #350/557. First person on the board that sends me a PM can have it. Just send me your address and I will drop it in the mail to you.
OK, the fun has started, Im a third done with putting my set in sheets. So far no screw ups (knock on wood). Quick someone find another variation for card #4 or something like that!

Can anyone tell me if both versions of #475 Huston Street are SP's? On someone's Excel spreadsheet it listed them both as SP's, however, I opened a pack and the first card in the pack was Street which was not in the normal position for an SP. Please let me know! Thanks!

Craig, I am pretty sure just the "Blue letters" variation is a SP.
<< <i>so for those of you putting it in sheets...do you put the SP right next to the non sp, or do you put them in a different spot in the binder?
Im going out yet again, in hope of some retail heritage!
Kevin >>
I put the cards in order from 1-485. Period. Making sure to double up the spaces for the SP cards and variation ..... then I put in the Then and Now, Flashback, New Age subsets separated by a sheet each. After that come the relic cards and any autos ..... I will have a small binder for the chrome set.
thats cool, that is the way I do them. I should be doing more of the set tonight. I am hitting a trade night tomorrow night, so I will look for anyone trading heritage anything. If there are any requests, LMK before tomorrow.
I also have one unopened pack from each year that I keep with the set..kinda cool, I hope one day to also add an unopened box to each set....the 2001 is very expensive, if you can even find it.
Im getting nervous now, I am scheduled to be out of town in for a week starting Sunday. If heritage doesn't soon, Im going to actually miss out on retail here!! That would suck, as the pack searcher is sure to get his grubby mitts on them!
Anyone know how many targets there are in Phoenix? LOL
now may be the time to sell team lots on ebay....cause
1- may not have a hobby shop around 2- like us...no retail in yet 3- they dont like to open boxes???? haha...i have no idea why that is so high...oh well....maybe we all should take a swing at it!!!
After a few great trades with board members (thanks guys) I'm down to needing only a handful of cards - hoping to finish the set via trades. I still need the following cards: 23b (Jeter blue letters), 278 (Loretta), 300 (Sweeney), and NAP-RC (Clemens). I also collect ARod, Clemens, Felix Hernandez and Jeter cards, so I'd happily trade for SPs or chromes of those guys. To trade, I have the following: 55, 106, 123, 127, 265, 282, 292, 305, 312, 316, 319, 320, 321, 322, 323, 325a, 325b, 333, 336, 338, 341, 348, TN2, FB-BRI, FB-SM, FB-EB, NAP-BB, NAP-AP, and NAP-MT. Please PM me if something might work, thanks.
I don't have retail checklist #1 so I was unable to compare. This is what I have found. Lists 3.4 and 5 all have retail differences:
#2 Bobby Crosby number is missing on retail. Hobby is listed as #186
#3 Rich Hill marked as RC on hobby list, RC is left off on retail list
#5 Spacing is different. Clubhouse Collection list ends at Brooks Robinson in line one in retail and Brian Roberts in hobby. Back is also different as the list is off by a few.

<< <i>so for those of you putting it in sheets...do you put the SP right next to the non sp, or do you put them in a different spot in the binder?

I put the cards in order from 1-485. Period. Making sure to double up the spaces for the SP cards and variation ..... then I put in the Then and Now, Flashback, New Age subsets separated by a sheet each. After that come the relic cards and any autos ..... I will have a small binder for the chrome set.

I put the non SP next to the SP. In '02 I put the night SP's in the back of the book and wished I hadn't.
look for anyone trading heritage anything. If there are any requests, LMK before tomorrow.
I also have one unopened pack from each year that I keep with the set..kinda cool, I hope one day to also add an unopened box
to each set....the 2001 is very expensive, if you can even find it.
Im getting nervous now, I am scheduled to be out of town in for a week starting Sunday. If heritage doesn't soon, Im going to actually
miss out on retail here!! That would suck, as the pack searcher is sure to get his grubby mitts on them!
Anyone know how many targets there are in Phoenix? LOL

I think I read that Phoenix drove out all the Targets 'cause of them not allowing the Salvation Army there at Christmas.

THANKS TO THE BLACK REFRACTOR BARRY BONDS ROID CARD!!! WOOHOOO!!!
1- may not have a hobby shop around
2- like us...no retail in yet
3- they dont like to open boxes???? haha...i have no idea why that is so high...oh well....maybe we all should take a swing at it!!!
A couple of questions:
1.) Does anyone have a complete list of variations of the CHECKLISTS ?
2.) Have there been any rumblings regarding some backs (the red print) being lighter and some being darker (ie. the white back issue of last year) ??
Three retail boxes.
Nothing exciting.
3 Chrome (1 per box)
1 Refractor 150/557 Carlos Degado
I was hoping for that rare auto but aren't we all.
Cards are beutiful though.
Glen
I hope I don't get hooked like I did when they did the 54's.
Back is
also different as the list is off by a few.
