Thanks Rocke. We got Sophie on Monday and the adoption was finalized (for China's purposes) today. We're now waiting for the US Visa and should be leaving next Thursday (19th). Sophie has been doing wonderfully and is very sweet and incredibly smart. She won't let myself or my wife to leave her sight...which is quite funny. The only problem is that her and my older daughter aren't being very tolerant of each other. My older daughter has to have everything that Sophie gets and Sophie cries every time that our older daughter tries to talk or smile at her....arghhh....

A few new additions. The John 'Shipwreck' Kelly is one I have searched a lot for and finally found.

Rocke, I will look for the autographs you mentioned and let you know what I find.

  • Hello All,
I was just on the Football Hall of Fame website. The former Director and President of The Pro Football Hall of Fame passed away on Thursday. John Bankert was employed at The Hall his entire adult life. He started there in 1964, and only left a few years ago because he was getting ill. I owe a LOT to John. When The Hall started selling the Goal Line Art "GOLD" sets, they had two payment plans: Pay cash or credit card NOW to get it, OR Pay $1,000.00 down and make 6 monthly payments of $500.00 Now, with those being the only two options for me to own a set, I had an equal chance of owning a "GOLD" set, or, walking on the moon one day. BUT, I convinced John to let me put $500.00 Down and make a minimum monthly payment of $50.00. SIX YEARS later, I sold my Thurman Munson baseball and paid off the balance on my set. I was the only person that John did this for. It took a lot of talking ( begging ) to get him to go along with my idea, but , if it wasn't for him giving in to me, I wouldn't have my set.
    THANKS JOHN.

  • Rocke,

I am definitely going to be there on either Saturday or Sunday. I will probably stop in to the show on the way home from work Friday night, also. It's much more quiet on Friday and you can actually converse with the dealers. Have any idea what days/times you will be at the show? We definitely need to meet up this time...we seemed to miss each other the last time around. I am also planning my trip out to the National this year, so hopefully I will see you on your home turf also:}. Let me know and look forward to meeting you in person!

  • Hello Ken,
We ( My son Ben, my brother-in-law, and his two sons ) will be there basically open - to - close on Saturday. We will be there Sunday till around 2:30. All three of the kids are on Spring Break starting Monday the 23rd, so we may stay till close to 4:00 or so. We then have about a 6 hour drive home. As far as Friday, I HOPE to make it, but, the only way will be if my B-I-L will pull his two kids out of school my around Noon. If he doesn't want to leave till they get home on the bus, by the time we get there, it will be around 10:00-10:30PM We are staying at The Wingate by Wyndham Hotel in Chantilly. Got 2 nights with 2 queen beds for $107.00 TOTAL. They have an INDOOR swimming pool as well. Thought that was a good deal. If I bring a couple of the "prizes" of my collection, would you be able to take a picture of them and post them on this website? I would really appreciate it. I am POSITIVE that I want to have you to my house this summer when you are in Cleveland for The National, show you my stuff, and maybe, if you don't mind teach this computer IDIOT how to post pictures.
I will POSITIVELY have my black Cleveland Browns LOGO bag-with-a-strap-over-the-shoulder bag with me. My son ( 11 years old ) will probably wear his Kellen Winslow jersey one day, and his Dick Butkus jersey the other day. I will have on some type of Pro Football HoF Logo baseball cap. I know Joe Mancino and Jeff Whitmore ( two well known dealers ) and they can help point you in the right direction to find me. I'm sure we'll hook up this time.

  • Rocke,

Sounds great, I will meet up with you on Saturday! When we get closer to the show, I will PM you my cell # in case by some chance I can't track you down. I would be more than happy to take some pictures for you and post them up. I will bring my wife's new camera to the show. In my old days, I was a computer programmer and am very comfortable with using computers so I would be happy to help you with anything you need when I come out in July. I am hoping that I can find one or two of the HOFers that I need for my autograph collection at this Chantilly show! I am also going to get Mean Joe Greene to sign a jersey I think (I am a big Steelers fan in case you didn't know:}). It will look nice to my framed Lambert jersey. See you next weekend!

  • Hello,

C'mon Reese. I don't know how to do that ( yet ) BUT, I am meeting this guy that goes by the name of "Ken " this weekend, and the Thorpe might just be one of the items that I broke out of that so-called "Bellagio Vault" that this guy "Ken" is going to take a picture of and post on here for me.

I am really looking forward to this. This is always a really good show at CSA as I am sure that Ken would attest to. I do not have a laptop, so I will fill in my details Sunday night when I get back home. As soon as my son gets home from school, we are outta here. More importantly, I hope everything went well for Greg.

  • Hey all,

So I had a Rocke encounter yesterday. Like the Transporter, he came bearing the goods in a large mysterious black duffle bag. For a moment I got to peek in the bag and take a few pictures of the treasures...and then he was gone. As soon as he arrives back safely at the home base and puts the goods back in the vault, I will post up some pics. I got a few good pickups of my own, so will scan and post also. Overall, it was a great show and a pleasure to meet Rocke and his family. As you already know, he has an amazing collection.

  • Hello Everybody,
Wow !!!! I LOVE going to Chantilly, Va. Bill Dudley cancelled. I heard a number of people saying that he was in the hospital. It was GREAT to meet my first fellow poster. Ken is a GREAT guy and a lot of fun to talk over " autograph war stories " with. I am looking so forward to him coming to Cleveland for The National and coming to my home and local Bank ( The Bellagio Vault ) and showing him my full collection. Met a GREAT guy by the name of Bill Brown, who will be a future poster on this site. Bill has been reading the posts on this site for quite a while, and really enjoys it. I encouraged him to join, and start sharing their collection and thoughts about the hobby. Bill had his son and daughter, Zack and Brandy with him. Bill and Zack's Ebay name is Zack'ssportsgallery. They have an AMAZING collection. After an EPIC trade that we made, they are now down to needing only Hugh Ray, Tim Mara, Charles Bidwill, and just one other, whose identity shall remain unknown, as they are working on a deal for that one, (which is a toughie, NOT named Joe Carr ) but I don't want to jinx it until the deal goes through. The EPIC trade which I alluded to in my post on Feb. 28th @ 1:05 AM DID go through. We both gave up, and got a lot in return. I gave up 3 cancelled checks and three or four 3 x 5 index cards ( I forget !!! ) and a VERY nice page of Chicago Conrad Hilton stationary signed B. Guy Chamberlin. The auto. is a good bit larger than he signed on a typical 3 x 5 card. What did I get in return? A VERY nice 3 x 5 card signed by some guy by the name of Fritz Pollard. So now I am down to the # of fingers on one hand !!! YEEEEEHAAAAWWWW. Ken is going to post a few pictures here shortly. A few of my " treasures fom the Bellagio Vault "

  • Hello All,
    Just two things,
Nice pick-up on the Reeves Reese, As you know, other than my Goal Line Set, I don't collect autographed cards, but I am guessing that Reeves is easily in the top 5 of the toughest to find on a card that he ACTUALLY signed himself.
Also, where the heck has everybody been?

    Hey Guys-

I think I know a lot of you on here (well, I know I have talked to a lot of you) but am just finding this forum and that I'd join in. Probably won't have much time to chat until the end of the month (I have a big event that I am in charge of) but will try to keep current with what's going on here.

I collect a lot of signed football items (mini helmets, photos, index cards) and am down to needing only the Big 3 in football on index cards/cuts (do have copied examples of all three though, courtesy of Ron Gordon). My main speciality is probably the mini helmets and I think I have all the possible HOFers (though I have heard there might be a Red Grange floating around.) Hal Jarvis told me he saw one at the National in 2007, but really didn't go and check it out.

I do have all the guys that died from 1992 and on, including the toughest 3: Buchanan, Hein and Wojciechowicz. No, they are not PSA'd, but I know the source behind them,

Anyway, would love to see all of us get together and plan just an old fashioned autograph trading convention sometime. Perhaps plan it around the National Show, but a day or two ahead of it.

Well, enough for now...lot's of other work to get back to-

    Rocke,

I'm glad to hear that you had a great time at the Chantilly show - and that you got to meet Ken. Also, congrats on adding a Pollard signed 3x5 index card...you'll have to post a scan. I've only seen one Pollard autograph...so I'd love to add the scan to my exemplar collection. Are you going to get the 3x5 slabbed or otherwise authenticated or has it already been authenticated? Absolutely amazing...

My apologies for not posting since I returned home. Mom, daughters (plural now) and I are doing great and Sohpie (the newly adopted one) has been doing fantastic. She is 28 months old and is very healthy and was well taken care of (compared to my older daughter who was severly negleted/abused). The girls have been getting along famously (except for a few expected incidents) and we are settling into our new lives. Attached is a link to my family's blog:

    Reese,

Keep us updated on whether PSA slabs the Reeves. I personally think that its good....good luck!

I'll be sending in my 55 Bowman Ford next week along with another card (possibly 55 Topps AA Turk Edwards or 57 Topps Unitas). Wish me luck!

    Bart,

Welcome to the boards. A while back, someone posted a link (I think it was Scott) to someone's website who had hundreds of signed mini-helmets. Was that your website? If so, your collection is AMAZING!! I have only a handful of mini-helmets...but have always thought of collecting more.

I'd love to see scans of what you have. Do you have any signed vintage football cards?

Very true, although it's a great time to buy if you're hoarded $ under your mattress. I have bought more autographed cards over the past 3 months than in the past year...

  • Rocke,

I apologize for the delay in posting these pictures, I will have to buy you a beer at the National. My two bosses went on vacation and left me holding down the entire studio at work....so it's been a hectic past 2 weeks. I am also coaching both of my daughters soccer teams and the season just started. Without further ado:

  • Hello Everyone,
First and most important, Greg, I'm glad that you are back home, and that everything is going well with your family. I don't know if you had been Emailing with anyone, but to tell the truth, I was kind of getting worried. Thanks for the link to your family blog. I WILL be reading it.
2nd, I want to also extend a BIG WELCOME to Bart. I POSITIVELY want to hook-up with you during The National. I would LOVE to have You, Rod, Ken, and anyone else that will be around here for The National over to my house for a " Hall of Fame Autograph Summit " That would definitely be a blast.
3rd. A very LARGE "THANK YOU" to Ken for taking pictures of a couple of my prizes and posting them for me. Ken has volunteered to show me how to post pictures of my autographs when he is here for The National. I really had a good laugh when I read your post Ken, about how I appeared holding a Black bag, and for a moment you got to look in. And then I was gone!!! LOL We were together off and on for a good part of 3 hours. You should post a picture of your half of the purchase that we made together.
Anyway, The first picture is of my Jim Thorpe autograph. I bought this fine item from Rod. This is the item that was used concerning my "Question of the Day" on the Las Vegas Advisor website. I showed this and my other autographs that Ken photographed to Darren Bachaus (sp)? from Ebay ( Livehorn & PSADNA4sale ) He was VERY impressed with all of them, but the Thorpe really surprised him. He told me that he has seen the Jim Thorpe Supper Club and Casino cards before, but that he had NEVER seen one signed before. That made me feel pretty good !!!
The next autograph is my Henry Jordan. The 4th one is my John "Blood" McNally. I bought them both from a guy in Michigan. He told me that he had actually got the Jordan in person when he was a teenager. He couldn't remember where he got the McNally from. This is the only 3 x 5 that I have ever seen signed this way, with both John V. McNally and Johnny Blood together on the same card. Usually they are signed John V. McNally or Johnny Blood McNally. I feel VERY lucky to own both of them.
The one in the middle of the two Packers is a Benny Friedman that Ebay pulled from their website. An Ebay autograph dealer, I think his name is autographman had it on Ebay with a BIN of 649.00 I sent him a couple of Emails trying to get it for something less than that. Then it disappeared. RATS !!!! I figured someone hit the BIN and it was gone. About a year later I needed an authentic Otto Graham and Johnny Unitas 3 x 5 cards that were NOT slabbed for an item that I got framed in my rec room. He had one of each , so I sent him another Email concerning those two items. I got his phone #, called him to work out a price etc... While we were talking, I asked him how much he got for the Benny Friedman. He told me that he still had it!!! He said some guy contacted Ebay and he convinced them it was a forgery. Ebay believed him and pulled it from the site and wouldn't allow him to re-list !!!! He assured me it was good, and said he would refund my $$$ if I submit to JSA or PSA and it fails. Haven't got around to it yet, but will probably take it to J.Paul in Pittsburgh in May.
Next is the Dan Reeves signed picture that I won on Ebay for about $150.00 I had JSA authenticate it last April. He told me that this was only the 2nd signed Dan Reeves picture that he had ever seen, and he ( Spence ) OWNS the other one. It will be in The Huggins & Scott May catalog auction. If Jim has never seen another one OTHER than his own, I feel very confident that it is pretty rare and should bring me a nice profit.
Finally, is Green Bay Packer Willie Davis's helmet that he wore during the 1960 season. My buddy Rob,eeerrrrr Rod won it in a Mastro Auction. It was signed by Willie at the CSA show. UNFORTUNATELY, Willie MISSPELLED Rob's eeerrrrr Rod's name. I felt like dogsh*t giving it to Rod when I got back from Va.
He does read this website, so once again, " Sorry Rod "

  • Rocke,

I think I have laid the proper groundwork with my wife to make the National this year. Looking forward to catching up with you again. I want to also add that Rocke genuinely felt like dog doo-doo when Willie was done signing that helmet...it just happened too quick for him to get the name corrected. On a positive note, with a little work that "B" could probably be turned into a "D" fairly easily:}. At least he didn't make it out to "ROZ"...then he would have been screwed...ha ha. Sorry again about the delay on the pics. Take care my friend.

    Greg-

I only have a couple signed cards. The rarest would probably be Hewritt Dixon and Jim Tyrer. Other than that, nothing too far out of the ordinary. Not sure if Scott (?) posted a link to some of the helmets I have or not. I know there used to be a few shots in the Rogues gallery, on SHL, but that link is no longer any good. Here is a link to about 200 of the minis I have. I haven't added any photos for a while, so there are a lot of other rarer ones not shown.

As for my best index cards, they are in large framed pieces, with GLAC over each 3x5. I've got some pictures of the pieces, but not sure how to load them up on teh site.

On the general topic of loading pictures to the site, my method is to use the free Google software called Picasa ( link) and the free Google online service Picasa web albums. You will need to establish a Google account, I believe, which is free. The software allows you to view and edit and upload pictures. Once your pictures are in your Picasa web album, you can add them to a message on the board by clicking on the fourth button from the left above the screen where you are writing - it looks like a framed picture after B I and U- and you type or paste in the location of your photo

    - for example, I have a photo of a program I recently acquired and I have it open in another window and when I right click on it and select "properties" I get this address

    http://lh6.ggpht.com/_UzsTyjvLpaQ/SdZ36petABI/AAAAAAAAA-M/9Tfa-KX7W5M/s912/Grange Tour LA Jan 1926.jpg

When I use the image button and paste that address in there, you see this:

  • Rev,

I will have to check those applications out sometime. I currently use Photobucket to store my images and basically the same technique you do to insert them in the posts. Thanks.

  • Rocke, I think I actually got this all figured out. Awesome photos!!!!! I'm hoping this post shows up. I've been reading this thread for some time now and I am familiar with Rocke and Bart. My fourteen year old son is actually the collector but it is extremely addictive. I will post more once I know it's working. Bill
  • Hello All,
Bill and his 14 year old son Zack have a GREAT Pro Football autograph collection. When I left them a couple of weeks ago, they were down to needing : Hugh "Shorty" Ray, Tim Mara, Charles Bidwill, and one other NOT named Joe Carr. They were working on a deal for that one, which would get them down to three. How is that deal going Bill ? Did the deal Go through or fall through ? Bill is the one that I worked my " EPIC Trade " which got me my Fritz Pollard 3 x 5. Thanks Again to both of you. Bill has also got a few of his "toughies" from my buddy Rod. Also, can we all agree with Bill that this hobby is, as he put it , "extremely addictive" ? I do know that I'm addicted.

Hmmm...now I have to figure out how to shrink the thing!

  • Hey Bart,

Do you have your private messages set to on? I tried sending you a message and it wouldn't go through. Wanted to ask you a question or two:}. Thanks.

    Hey Bart,
I don't know what anyone else thinks, BUT ..... Speaking for myself, DO NOT try to shrink the photo of the mini helmets. I really like the bigger size picture, because you can see the helmet and most importantly, the autograph in much better detail. AWESOME signed mini, by the way.

As some of you know, I collect signed mini football helmets and have a rather extensive collection of about 2200 signed. included in the collection are a number of rather rare ones, that I purchased thru a long time mini helmet collector that has been thinning out their own collection.

These are not PSA'd or JSA'd, but do carry a money back guarantee. I am now looking at purchasing a few more minis from this individual (duplicates for my own collection) and thought I would see if any other mini collectors are interested in any of the following names, before I try to "haggle" on a price for the ones I want to purchase.

So, if any of you are interested, please drop me an e-mail (bdbop@aol.com) with the player's name and what you would be willing to pay for the helmet (remember that there will be shipping fees too). Also, if you are looking for any other tough names, please feel free to e-mail those too, as this individual may have them.

This is a good chance to pick up some really tough names that many of you may have been searching for now for a while.

Note: If you want to see what the helmets look like, I have several photos, (many are ones I purchased thru this individual), on my photobucket page at:

I put these up on another thread, but thought they might interest some of you - bought a set of photos taken by a Giants employee in 1932 only to find they were signed on the back by the players - here's a couple of examples -

I'm editing this because the pictures suddenly don't show up - yet when I put in the same exact url they reappear - wonder why?

    Bart,

Why is Hein so rare on a mini-helmet? Were mini-helmets first made around the time he died? Just curious.

Post #2000! Who would have thought? I wonder where this ranks among the long time threads on the PSA boards?
