I just got this one the other day. It is super sharp.

<< <i>What's the deal with the first 4 posts of a new page not showing up? Is anyone else having this problem with the thread or is it just me?

This is EXACTLY why I have those empty posts at the top of this thread. Thought it was my browser. I kept posting and the new page did not show until the 4th post.....
Thanks Rich. I hadn't bought any Churchman Boxing Personalities up to that point because they're so abundant I figured I'd be patient and wait for a deal. Well, I found one. Got that Louis for about $8 delivered. I'm hoping for a 7 but I'll be happy with a 6.
Haven't posted in a while, but I finally received something to share. It is a photo of the first pitch of Don Larsen's perfect game. I think every baseball fan has seen the famous photo of the last pitch, but I really liked the composition of this photo. Signed by Larsen and Berra as well....
Picked up some '31 Churchman Sporting Celebrities cards. Bought these as a lot, essentially just for the Schmeling and Carnera. Good thing too, the Kid Berg looks like it went 20 rounds with a hungry badger.
Just picked these two up off the 'bay. I think nicely centered 7s like these have great eye-appeal (and fit my budget much better than 8s!) The Clemente I won from board member Brian Kritz -- thanks again Brian! The Aaron is my 1st '64 Stand-Up, a very cool and colorful set in my opinion (although I wish they weren't blank-backed).
Arthur....some impressive boxing cards youve been picking up lately !
tkd7.....that Larsen photo is a gem...crisp image...captures the pitch in mid flight...the Ballantine beer, clock, and no betting in the background...just a really, really nice piece...congrats !
I've been picking up alot of stuff lately. Many, many cards for my Mattingly master set, my Munson sets, tons of Guidry auto'd cards, Perez-Steele signed cards, various baseball postcards, and heaps of Yanks for my graded team sets, but this is something that I wanted to share...its an AP wire photo from 1971. It had an unusual title and description on ebay, and didnt mention either AP or wire photo so I was able to pick it up very cheap....
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
Finally, the Thurman I have been after for waaaay too long. Despite the MC it is still a great looking card if you ask me, and anyone who ever went after this card knows, it is a beast to pick up in good condition...
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
The boxing cards that look almost cartoonish are really cool.
I've seen similar ones but you are one of the few who is posting boxing stuff.
tkd
That photo is a beauty - with the auto - it's really special. Unfortunately not everyone including myself keeps all the pics - so the archive is missing stuff. If I really like something that is posted - I save it to my pics.
Bri
Superb wire photo! You have one heck of a nice Munson collection!
Yeah, that Munson photo is pretty cool. I just saw the Aaron Stand Up too. Don't know how I missed that the first time around. Very cool!
Scott, thanks. You've been throwing up some real nice Play Ball's lately. I'm assuming you're working on the set. Mind throwing a link to your reg. set in your sig line? I think it would be cool to follow you as you piece it together. Also, any plans on putting scans of all your cards in your reg?
Mike, I agree. The two issues I've seen like that have both been Churchmans. The '28 Men of the Moment in Sport and the '31 Sporting Celebrities. With the '31s they're a little more colorful than the '28s. The Schmeling and Carnera really pop out when you have them in your hand. I think the big difference is that the artist took a little more artistic liberty with the '31s while the '28s seem to be more white background. I'm having a great time collecting these.
The set I'm working on now is the '30 Wills Famous Golfers. It's a 25 card set of larger cards than the Churchmans and each card features a painting by .... err ... somebody. I can't remember who. I just started. Raw first, have those graded and then upgrade.
Eventually I may decide to start working on one of those Churchman sets. I certainly do enjoy the eclectic group of material we all throw up on this thread. My favorite thread, hands down.
Arthur Thanks for the compliments. I am about 53% complete on the 41 Play Balls. These last 5 were acquired from a registry participant who sold off his set. I have scans of all my cards in the regisrty. I tried to add a link to my signature but just in case it doesn't work here it is.
Looks like the link in my signature works but does anybody know if you can change the text of "myurl" to something different. I'd like to change it to my set registry name. Thanks.
Go to your "profile" button in the upper right hand corner (below the Navigation drop down). Go to your signature, and in it, you'll see something like (L=myurl) but in brackets (if I type it exact, it will prevent it from showing in my post). Remove the "myurl" in that bracket, and type in whatever you want, then hit save.
<< <i>Looks like the link in my signature works but does anybody know if you can change the text of "myurl" to something different. I'd like to change it to my set registry name. Thanks.
I am in the slow process of putting together a T3 HOF set. This is my first one for the set. In my opinion the T3's are the most stunning card/cabinet made.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Sure, the batter is Jim Gilliam, the second baseman is Billy Martin and the center fielder is Mickey Mantle. I think it is a cool pic.
