<< <i>That should be an interesting auction to watch Frank. Do you think it will get to the $20,000 estimate? >>

There is no reason that it shouldn't.........

  • Jami,

Well, i'm not sure what will come first...declaring bankruptcy...maxing out my credit card...or entering the nut house...or catching Oleander.

I would bet on one of the first two because all Oleander would have to do is buy some more 10's, the nut houses are full and my wife would

declare senility and keep me around just to shovel the snow which may go into May the way this year is going.

On a more serious note, isaw the Montell show this PM and found out that vets from Iraq are having to pay some of their own medical costs after

they have been wounded and disfigured. What the ---- is the matter with the USA when soldiers willing give up their life are having to pay some

of their own medical bills due to war wounds. I was a vet in Viet Nam and I find this to be truly disappointing and disgraceful that our President

(probably the worst in history) or the Congress can't remedy this situation. I am going to get involved in writing letters to my Senators and

Representatives to try to bring more attention to this problem.I hope some of you guys out there will do the same.

Wow, some of the recent lower pop commons have garnered very generous prices of late!

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • Anyone watching the PSA 9 Aaron and Blue in actions last night. I don't hink either met the reserve the seller had. The Aaron went for $960 and Blue a little over $300. What kind of prices do these sell for, were those low prices on them?
  • nam812nam812 Posts: 10,583 ✭✭✭✭✭
You didn't mention it, but I think you mean the "in action" versions of those 2 cards.

The last 3 Vida Blue in action cards have sold for:

    6/21/07 - $304.99
    6/2/07 - $535.99
    12/16/06 - $504.99

The last 3 Hank Aaron in action cards have sold for:

    5/12/07 - $1,831.99
    1/28/07 - $1,725.00
    11/6/06 - $1,600.00

Thanks for info. Yeah, I was talking about the In Actions. So the Blue went for more than last one and Aaron went for way less than the previous one's. Any info on what the last Jim Kaat PSA 9 In Action cards of him have sold for?

<< <i>So the Blue went for more than last one and Aaron went for way less than the previous one's...... >>

Actually neither went for anything since the reserves were not met.

The last two 1972 #710 Jim Kaat in action PSA 9 cards sold for:

    2/8/08 - $118.55
    5/26/07 - $204.52
  • Seems kinda strange that Aaron In Action went from $1,800 in it's last public sale down to under a grand in the most recent sale. It is such a sweet looking card.
  • Recent popage, these cards were in a binder for 25 years and I decided to have them graded. I requested N/Q so that's why there are some sixes mixed in. I'm happy with results especially the nines. Also quite a few 8.5's

Who even sends this card in to be graded? If that was in my raw set I'd never in a million years think it would get a straight 9.

Geez, that's awful...that has to be an error where they forgot the OC, right?

I was watching the PSA 9 Bench for the fun of it and was surprised that it went for only $210. Is that typical or not?

Actually, that's a bit high, especially for this particular card. According to VCP, the last five PSA 9 Benches averaged $204.63.

  • Hi Jami,

Thank you for the recognition. I know I could easily be number four best current if Greg Foster decides to register his astounding collection,
or Rick Milsap decides to register his fantastic collection,or if Olander decided to purchase a bunch of tens. Thanks to many collectors who helped by providing some difficult cards, not shill bidding to make some purchases almost impossible. My goal has been achieved only because other collectors,
for the most part, have been helpful. For many new collectors, a good sign is that many difficult cards of the past seem to be a bit more available, and, since the population is much greater than it was for Frank Bakka, who was the first ever to accomplish the highest ever set collected and registered, although a monster set, it might just be a bit easier. I know you are continuing to add to your set, and I continue to wish you well.
  • Hi Frank,

Thanks for the recognition. That's pretty nice considering you had the first and greatest set ever registered on PSA. I am waiting for either Greg or Rick to register their sets, since their sets are awesome. However, we all do what we can with what we have.

You would like think that there will be lots of last day bidding...........as is the case in most of those auction houses.....including overtime bidding.

Personally - as the seller - I would be happy.

But, with a $20K price and a $3500 buyer's fee and the $1400 sales tax that I would have to pay in NJ - $24,900 would be a bit more than I would want to pay for it.

Frank, I'm not asking specifically what you are into your 8.43 for, but can you give me a range that it would cost to put an 8.25 to 8.50 together? Obviously a few large lot purchases would be involved to make it a little less costly, but what would be the ballpark range?
  • FBFB Posts: 1,684 ✭✭
    Nick,

    I can't really say... Not, because I don't want to - but because I really don't know...

When I broke up my first set - I sold off 600 of the 787 cards in the set. I also sold those 600 cards off for more than I paid for the entire set. So, I started the 2nd set off with roughly 190 cards (182 PSA 9's and 8 PSA 8's) that were basically free. Among the 9's were all of the higher pop HOF'ers. I bought several large lots of PSA 8's and PSA 9's and sold off the ones that I didn't need.

To the best of my knowledge, I'm into the set for roughly $15 - $17K. I'm also confident that I could get it to 8.50 for less than another $1K.

I keep a running total of what I have in my set. It includes all costs including S/H, ebay fees, a small amount of grading fees. It includes selling off of cards when i get upgrades.
Total as of today = $22,244.

In that figure is $2700 of S/H fees.

I think the set sold in REA could have sold for more, but was undone by the bid increments. Once it reached $20,000 the bid increments became $2500. Even the $1,000 increments during the entire auction seemed to me too much. $500 would have been better in my opinion.

    Jami - agreed...

Not sure why these outfits hurt their consignors by upping the bid increments so dramatically. What does it matter if instead of 11 bids - they had 42 bids - and the final total went to $21,500?

The only problem that I can see is with the ridiculous extension of auctions at the end. Lower increments could make for longer extensions.

    Guys,

I'm looking for 4 - 1972 Topps cards to fill out an EM/NM raw set that I'm going to put on eBay. If you have any that have nice visual appeal but didn't make the grade to send in to PSA - let me know.

Card #'s I'm looking for are 660 (Blair), 724 (Rookies), 741 (Rookies) and 749 (Alston). Either PM me with what you have or email to lynnfrank@earthlink.net. Thanks.
