  • Screwed up? what happens when you type the wrong cert Number in and then it gives you the message already entered in another set and email sent to owner of the acutal card, I just don't want the owner thinking I am trying to hijack one of there cards in their set this happen to anyone else? feeling stupid here and yes it is in the 72 registry set

  • << <i>what happens when you type the wrong cert Number in and then it gives you the message already entered in another set and email sent to owner of the acutal card >>

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. If I were the owner, I'd just ignore it.

I've gotten a few. And I usually just reply "No - never sold the card - still in my set" and the issue has always died there.

A few months back we discussed the fact that Luis Tiant did not have a card in the 72 set..........................but tonight I found another very prominent player who did not have a card in the 72 set.

This player hit over .300 for his respected team and played in all 162 games in 1971.

Anyone want to venture a guess??

    I even won a Stanley PSA 9 today.......for $56.00........

  • Hello 1972ers,

I am working on a mid-grade raw 1972 set and I am missing 150 cards, quite a few are stars and many are high numbers. If any of you think you can help me fill my want list with cards that you did not deem worthy of submission, please send me a PM or an e-mail and I'll send you a list of what I need. I want to keep my costs down so I am not looking for PSA 8 or 9 type of cards.

    Thanks,
    Michael

A question for you slabbed-'72 collectors. Does this Fisk rookie have a shot at an "8"? I'm asking because I'm not sure if the curved part (above "Rookie") is too close to the top edge. All the square portions of the l/r and t/b borders are well-centered, however...

    Thanks for sharing your opinions.

  • lostdart58lostdart58 Posts: 2,938 ✭✭✭
    Re the Fisk Card:

    Probably a "7".............

The Fisk in PSA 7 still sell for $15-$20, which is better then the grading cost.

Its also possible that it will come back as a miscut "MC" qualifier.

    Frank,

    Why do you think that?
  • FBFB Posts: 1,684 ✭✭
It looks like the card "dips" a little bit along the top center. The way that its cropped against the black background, it looks completely straight along the other 3 sides, but the gap seem slightly larger - top center. It could be an optical illusion - something in the scan and not the card. But, I've had similar cards that went to PSA that came back with the MC qualifier.

  • I see the "dip" you're talking about. I thought that miscut meant the card was so off-center that part of it was cut off, either on the front or back.
  • FBFB Posts: 1,684 ✭✭
    Joe,

Both situations can give you an MC qualifier. I've bought plenty of both at Ft. Washington - only to notice them once I've gotten home...

  • How big of a scam is Rare Grading Inc.?

I bought a Rare Gem Mint 10 Aaron IA. It's got a creased corner that would limit it to a PSA 6. It's centered great, but I think it's trimmed.

All I ever see from Rare are Gem Mint 10's and an occasional Mint 9.

I bought a 75 rose mini in gem mint 10 if I am really lucky it might come back a psa 8 more likely a psa 7. I think the guy that owns the cards also grades them heh heh that is why all you see are Mint 9 and gem mint 10. seen another thread about this company and most cards are trimmed. I'll never buy another card from them.

Why bother to trim that card if you're sending it into RARE? They'd give it a 10 regardless.

I had been bummed out for the last week as over last weekend there was some sort of glitch in the PSA website which reaked havoc with more then a few set registrys.............Mine was one of them. Although my set was there , almost all the over 450 scans and 300+ comments I had added were gone replaced with scans and comments from my Cleveland Indian team set repeated over and over and over again.

After numorous emails back and forth with Cosetta, the problem was finaly solved late this afternoon and my set is backed to where it was before the problem started.

I filed a PayPal claim on this and the seller didn't respond. After 8 days, I escalated it to a claim and got an offer of a $20 refund (I paid $32) in less than 24 hours. I accepted, even though I still think it was a crooked deal. I guess it was worth $12 to learn that RARE Grading is a complete scam. Hopefully, this will keep some of you from making the same mistake.

  • Thanks, guys! Looks like a right-place-at-the-right-time story. Now if I could only get half as lucky with a PSA 8 Expos Team I'd be set!

I also picked up a PSA 8 NQ 1972 Namath IA for about 2/3 of the cheapest I've ever seen it go for. And, I hit a PSA 8 on a 1969 Lou Brock that I bought raw at a local card show in November! I better run out and play the lottery this week.

    hey guys,

i don't read this thread, but had a question for you.

bbce has a complete '72 set for $1000 and i am very tempted to buy it. is the price reasonable or what?

i will probably simply keep set intact and not get anything graded, i am satisfied w/ nice complete set for now at least.

thanks for input and hopefully nobody buys the set before i get feedback!

Julen, that's a little over a dollar a card, not too bad in my opinion if the set is close to nm.

<< <i>Julen, that's a little over a dollar a card, not too bad in my opinion if the set is close to nm. >>

I would agree.......depending on the overall condition of the set.

I had a raw set with about 40 PSA graded cards (mostly PSA 7s). My auction stated that the set graded ex-nr, which was a more then fair opinion. Seller used BIN and bought for $1250..................three weeks earlier I had listed same with reserve of $1,000 and bidding ended at about $965

  • Julen, considering there is 131 high numbers that book at 8 to 10 dollars a piece if they are in Nm
1000 sounds like a good price, I am still in the belief that alot of sets from 1970's are underpriced.
Hopefully more collectors will enter the market and help drive the market upwards.

    YES!!! FINALLY!!! 100%!!!

I've still gotta upgrade about 5 or 6 cards from 7s, but the set sits at 100%!!

Thanks to all of you that helped me get to this point! It's been quite a journey and I am definitely done with big sets! image

After this set and still working on my '84 Donruss after a few years, it's just too long to wait and get those tough commons. Although, I'll probably be back in the saddle with a big set a year or two down the road. For now, I will continue to work on upgrading my player sets and working on my 'Rookies of the '70s' set.

Thanks again and good luck to the rest of you trying to get this monster completed! image
