<< <i>Aren't you one of the guys who accused me of stealing your icon?? >>
I don't believe I accused you of anything. As you were bashing moderns and comparing them to collecting beanie baby's.... Yes I stated I owned the icon coin you were using, I also stated something to the effect that I don't knock what folks collect on here (unless it's a certain few that we joke around together) and since we were posting in the same thread, people were getting confused who was posting. I merely stated for people to not get confused on who the poster was. I have nothing against you, but honestly, from what I've seen you post, people have been easy on you. You look for trouble you're gonna get it.
Besides.... I'm a firm believer if you're going to pull out a weapon, be prepared to use it or have it used on you. Also you have not even come close to stirring things up on here. Many have done much better before you and will continue after you. Have a nice day. Now quit crying and post some useful information about coins.
Please... Save The Stories, Just Answer My Questions, And Tell Me How Much!!!!!
I'm probably one of the "inner circle" people being referred to here, and as far as I personally am concerned, I couldn't care less whether one person comes or goes....that's completely up to that person. I don't know you, as far as I'm concerned it appears you're just poking at people wanting attention, and you're getting it - so I don't know what you're complaining about.
Well, today you opened up with a post that said that a majority of coin dealers were coin doctors. There are a number of dealers on this board who make an honest effort to give good information. Yes, we are in this to make a living, but for many of us it's an honest living, and I don't care for comments that trash the entire profession.
My advice to those who think that all dealers are crooked is to find another hobby. Dealers and collectors need each other. If you think that no one will give you a fair deal, then I dont' think you are going to get much enjoyment from the hobby. But bear this in mind ...
For most hobbies the dealers or store owners sell stuff to people that they never expect to buy back. The people accept that. I love history books, and I read a lot of them. Once I'm done the best I can hope for is get back pennies on the dollar. My reward is knowledge and things that enhance my life. Buying books and selling them will never earn me a living.
With coins, the buy and sell margins are smallest of any collectable that I know. For many collectors, who really get serious about their coins and really study them, it can turn into a money making hobby, really as a by-product. Yes, there are bad people in the business, but at least on the national show circuit I've found a lot of great people in this business.
There are bad stories that one can tell about dealers, and I've posted some of them here. But you just can't expect to give out blanket condemnations and expect people in the profession to ignore it.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
"What happened to civility and mutual respect?? I see little of it here!"
I agree, but as I'm here mainly for fun, somewhat for interaction with other folks with similar interests, and definitely for some numismatic education, I try to stay away from controversial subjects.
Stay, Major. I see some of your input as being educational, some as entertainment, and I think you are entitled to your opinions, as is every other person here.
major, please open that PM function. i think you'll discover that it enables you to solve problems off the "airwaves" and might also be helpful in forming friendships with other members. when i first cracked on you when you appeared on the scene, it was much as stman described, i thought you were him. so i started a thread for you to open your profile.
go or stay, just remember you have more to lose by leaving. in that same line of thinking, if you try to share what you know while you're "stirring things up" it'll be perceievd differently. many here are very frank with their opinions but their past involvement on the forum grants them some leeway, your supposed inner circle. just loosen up, grow some skin and quit knocking moderns, or else!!!!
I like it when someone stirs up something in a thread with an intelligent, thoughtful, and contrary opinion. This tends to make growth of knowledge.
I don't, however, define incessant <insert someone's favorite coin here that's not one you like> bashing as stirring things up. That's annoying, unnecessary, and rude.
I don't, however, define hit-and-run trolling as stirring things up. Some examples of this are "Who cares?" and "Relax, it's a free country." The first of the two quoted statements is unnecessary, rude, and non-productive in any stretch of the imagination. Period. Stop doing that.
The second is an inane, childish, and baseless schoolyard-bully defense. The phrase "It's a free country" is mostly *misused* just after the same person utters unkind remarks, epithets, or other mean-spirited things. Don’t hide behind the blood of so many that have given much – if all you’re going to do is bash someone or be unkind.
If you want to stick around and share the knowledge of your experience and adventures, please do. I’m always up to learning from others (that’s the main reason I post here).
If you want to bully people, make unkind remarks and then tell people to relax, then go away.
I am pretty sure that I am not one of the inner circle whoever they are.
If you think any of the things you mentioned are only found in this forum, you are mistaken and if you are concerned enough about them to post about them, you may actually need a break.
Time sure flies when you don't know what you are doing...
major, I like to sit back and absorb. And I must say that you provide some much needed "reality" at times. I do agree that your posts can be aggravating but they do draw us back to the fact that, sometimes, we tend to post too much me and not enough you.
As to an inner circle: yes, it IS a %$#&! to break in. I've posted for quite some time and tend to be the death knell of a thread. However, I have something to contribute and I'll say it no matter if anyone listens or not!!
Stick around!

This forum benefits anytime a knowledgeable collector or dealer joins. It benefits from productive discussion of any type. The give and take of information and opinion is what this board is all about. MajorBigTime is obviously well versed in coins and collecting and could be a valuable asset to this board.
There is no topic off-limits and people are rarely, if ever, just ignored because they're new, but one should be prepared to discuss a topic when he brings it up whether it's in another thread or one of his own.
No one is required to use the PM, but not using it may impede communication and derail thrades. It is also good advice for newbies to use the search function to find old threads. Certainly bringing up the same topic or an old thread is also acceptable.
inner circle, outer circle , perpendicular circle ...I don't give a rats ass either - those that have all day to post so be it - that's great. Not all of us are able to do that or can or want too - regardless they mostly contribute to this fine forum but you major get outta line and we'll spank ya. You wanna leave ? Go ahead wanna stay? cool! You're choice!!
I opt you stay....more fun some of you like to get spanked in public I think
I'm not sure Major understands how the PM's work. Major, they are not sent to your e-mail......they appear here on the forum........see the little lock in the upper left hand of the screen. If you have messages it will say and you click on that and get your messages. You don't have to list your e-mail on your profile unless you want to.

My thoughts? You are right (imho) in what you stated to start this thread.....(the "in" posters and the others being "out"). There are a lot of "cliquish" people here.
I actually prefer being "out"
Stay around....as long as you are having fun, enjoying the coins, and don't go around stalking other people and their threads/posts
btw...I have read more than a few of your posts.....I don't think you are a POS....I don't post pics either because I haven't practiced, don't have the time, nor the desire (most of the time....I have posted about 3 pics though when I was able to).
Entrance into the inner circle is an upgrade option offered by PCGS. You get direct email to David Hall and 4 free economy submissions. Email Carol for details. Tell her Cammy told you about it.

No, "bad" was spelled correctly. Now using an adjective where an adverb was called for, well, that's another story.
