Who else is planning to attend the August World’s Fair of Money® show in Oklahoma City? I am.

I haven’t gone to a show in several years and have decided to take a couple of personal days off to attend.
I won’t be doing any business there - just looking at coins and socializing. 😉

Enjoy the show!

August? Hey - Don't be late! ⏰ 🤣 😉

Given the show is in August, I think this thread is a little early, especially since there’s another major ANA show before then. That said, I am not planning to attend—the lack of direct flights and an uninteresting host city are the main reasons. I hope it’s a successful show regardless.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Your attendance almost makes it worthwhile going. But I won't be making this one
We have a small group planning to attend. It'll be great to meet you Mark!
that's the plan
Oklahoma City.
Where is that?
I have been to every ANA show since 1970 and plan to be in OKC. If you are a serious numismatist, it is a must attend.
Oklahoma City is actually the center of the Universe. if I am able to attend, I will be there.
Ditto, sorry I won't see you there!

Are you based in TX, and is OKC therefore reasonably convenient for you? I only ask because, as a well regarded numismatic statesman of sort who apparently rarely gets to go to a major show, it's a bit of an odd choice to pick this one, in this location, over others in places like Rosemont and Orlando.
I'm sure you will enjoy it, but I'm equally sure it will be a mere shadow of a normal ANA WFOM, given all the other prominent people who will be taking a year off due to the location.
Socializing? Did your account get hacked?
@NJCoin
Spent most of my adult life in Dallas with weekly trips to OKC for a couple years to visit my girlfriend (and now wife of 40 years). Approximately 3.5 hours from HA headquarters to OKC.
I plan to attend.

I can't say it was high on my list, but it would scratch off another state on the short list of ones I haven't visited yet. On the other hand... any chance I could just convince you to visit the PNW instead?
Yes, there is a chance - a 0% chance.😉

Bourse fees are through the roof compared to FUN and CSNS, but I am probably going and I will just go for a cheaper table in the Premium area.
Issue (1), all of my connections would be through Houston Bush to get to OKC at the height of the hurricane season. So I went back and reviewed the Texas hurricane history for the past 30 years. It looks like I will have about a 1 in 30 to 1 in 50 chance of Houston shutting down for a hurricane so that gave me a better understanding of the risk. HST, if it is an active hurricane season, then risk goes up, etc. We had Harvey at exactly that time a few years back when I lived in H-Town……. Hurricanes are simply no fun.
Issue (2), I don’t think my sales would be as strong at OKC as it was in Rosemont last year, which were super strong. And that needs some consideration as well. But gotta make decision soon.
Best, DM
Well, I was on the fence about this one, but now I guess you can count me in. Being that this may be one of the only shows that you attend, I feel like i'm somewhat obligated to go now 🥸.

You'd have to go anyway Dan. It'll be summer time, and hot, and so we might have to break out the tequila again!

I have a day planned, but may go twice or thrice since it's in my back yard this time. Looking forward to it!

First thing I'd do is learn how to spell his name.
This is a maybe for me. Like Mark, it has been quite a while since I’ve been to a major show. Drive from Dallas makes it work for me too. Only issue is I’m normally not at my primary residence in Texas in August - too dang hot. We shall see.
Since they’ve changed the date to late August I can’t attend. Pittsburgh will be problematic too but maybe retirement would solve that!
I’m in, piece of cake from Denver.
Good luck, I look forward to a day like that myself! But it's a ways off yet for me.
in for OKC
Wouldn’t miss it
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
I will be there... But I am man behind the scenes... So will not make much contact But we definitely intend on making the trek of from the DFW
I seem to be one of the few people on here who has actually met Mark at a show. A couple of my favorite coin people are going so I may have to try.
If I can get there, I would definitely go see

Mark, dang, I haven't seen you in quite a few years and it would ALMOST be worth flying out of LAX to get there just to see you and chat with you again, but for the first time in attending WFM shows, sadly right now I am NOT planning to attend this show. In addition to Oklahoma City not having much history of being a coin collecting city, the main reason is because the only flights from my connecting city out of Orange County (I refuse to fly out of LAX) are on regional planes which means I cannot bring my roller coin bags on those smaller planes and obviously cannot check those bags - so that's a deal breaker for me.

Booo!
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
The Cowboy museum is a must, as well as the National Memorial. Been there a couple of times from Dallas, worth a weekend for sure.
Will definitely be there since connecting flights have no impact on my decision making.
I do hope dealers figure out a way to attend.
Great news Mark. Didn't think I would ever get to see you again. You have been missed at FUN the last several years. Let us know what days you decide to be in OKC.
Oklahoma City has worked really hard to bring events such as this. I feel this will be a good show.
OKC is within driving distance for me. I plan to be there.
See you there!

I'm considering going since it would be my first show that'd have more than 40 tables or so. It's within driving distance and I could celebrate my birthday too.
I refuse to say.......
last 2 big shows said was going then had to cancel at last minute.........
I will be making the show. I am getting so tired of Rosemont.

You may have other preferences I am not following (example you said 'my connecting city' as if only one desired choice) but being familiar with AA and DFW I thought - only regional jets to OKC this does not sound correct. So I checked and AA-DFW currently is showing 4 flights to OKC on 737 or A321 (I used Aug 18) at 8AM, 12+PM, 8+PM,10+PM the others are regional jets. Also it appears all AA flights from John Wayne SNA to DFW are larger aircraft. Not sure how the connecting times would work (example not going to make that 8 AM and LayOver may be short or long). But AA currently shows flights from Orange County John Wayne (SNA) to OKC through DFW on 737 / A32x planes.

Well, if I was on the fence before, I’m not anymore. Will see you there, Mark!

It'll be nice to see you again, Mark. I'm surprised HA wouldn't mind having you there in some sort of work capacity, thus saving you some PTO. Unless it is you who does not want to be there in any kind of work capacity. : )

Same, here, Chris. I’m going just to say hello to and visit with some collectors and dealers I haven’t seen in a very long time. And I don’t want to be distracted by work obligations. So I decided to take a couple of the vacation days that I have saved up. It’s for a good cause.😊

10 minute drive. No hotel, no airfare=an extra coin for me. I'll be there.
Lionel, yes the planes from OC are larger jets but at the time I checked for flights, the only one that had a larger plane connection to OKC had a half hour connection which won’t work for me. When I checked, all the other connections that would work for me were on smaller planes.
