Big number for a sport no one cares about, that is less popular than lacrosse. And for a player that couldn’t beat Yankees buddy in a 1 on 1.

OMG this had me chuckling hard! TY >:)

This clown, not you cakes, is still upset about a thread that took place weeks ago.

Regarding the WNBA, once again the league has lost millions every season for decades. The data speaks for itself and yes my buddy would easily beat her in a one on one.

  • 80sOPC80sOPC Posts: 1,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

You think your div 3 buddy that’s 10- 20 years out of his prime could beat Clark 1:1 and I’m the clown. And not upset at all just having fun dunking on you.

  • Yankees70Yankees70 Posts: 480 ✭✭✭

I would bet my house that my buddy would beat her and I'm 100 percent serious. He's a grown man who played college ball and she's a woman. There's millions of dudes on this planet that could beat her. Regarding your dunking on me comment. You are the guy who's defending a league that has lost millions every year for decades - not me. I have data and common sense on my side. You have I guess your personal feelings on your side.

Do you remember our World Cup women's soccer champion? They got smoked by a men's high school team. When I was 18 years old I was a better soccer player than any women soccer player that ever existed on planet earth. I played division 1 soccer back in the day and every person on my team was better than any women soccer player that ever existed. Seriously I can't believe I have to explain this to you. Its common sense.

    This must be CHAPTER 2

  • I could easily name one other person existing on planet earth who is capable of heaping so much bombastic praise upon his own self. But I won't.

    Enjoy the go.

Sometimes you just got to know when to say NO.

I really don't have a problem with it, I just think that it is just so funny the way you guys go back and forth, back and forth and back and forth.

    ENJOY

If nobody calls me out I won't discuss this topic ever again. I'm not the guy who keeps bringing it back to life. The league is a huge failure and nothing any of us says will change that.

Sorry to bring back up, it was just the way he worded it, it gave me a chuckle.

For full clarity I agree with Yankees70 on some of his points but not to the same degree.

Successful coin BST transactions with Gerard and segoja.

Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
  • I personally have only watched because of Clark. I will watch a game if she is playing in it. I believe in a few years as long as the current stars keep playing, they will be a profitable league.

Can you explain why? Do you think ample more women will start watching it? Do you see women staying home on Saturday and watching the WNBA game instead of going out? Do you think dudes who love sports will change their minds and start following and watching the WNBA?

For the league to become popular and consistently make money there needs to be changes. A new TV deal would put more money into the league but that will not necessarily increase TV ratings. There needs to be massive changes to human behavior for the league to become a success. In your opinion what changes will occur?

How much did it sale for is one of the funniest and most ignorant things I've ever heard.

  • Yankees70Yankees70 Posts: 480 ✭✭✭

Is this a response to my question?

  • bgrbgr Posts: 1,862 ✭✭✭✭✭

Best to just wait until the WNBA is profitable and then resurrect this thread. As things stand the WNBA might be profitable in 2025. We will see what they do with salaries for the players, investment in expansion, and how the additional WNBA media deals pan out. There's still a chance that the players decide that they want to accelerate their path to "closer-to-NBA-salaries" and do something monumentally stupid like... you know... hold out.

The reason it will be profitable doesn't have everything to do with ratings or popularity. It has to do with revenue. The increase in revenue in elite women's sports (Yes it is a category) has been impressive, growing by 500% since pre-Covid.

With this rise in popularity and revenue why isn't the WNBA already profitable you ask? Great question. It's because, only about 25% of the revenue the WNBA generates goes to the WNBA. The majority of that goes the the owners of the teams, and the rest the players. The remaining 75% is split between the NBA and other external investors.

I want to know why anyone cares enough to argue this much about something that is happening right in front of us. This must be a debate drill and one of the topics was 'WNBA profitability'. It will either happen or it won't, but it sure seems like it's all unfolding right in front of us. I wouldn't be taking the position, based on only what I am observing, that the WNBA won't be relevant or profitable in the next decade.

That's an insane price for the card.

How much does your buddy’s rookie card sell for? Sounds like a great opportunity to get in early on that fella.

He does not have a rookie card. He could still beat her in a one no one and I would bet my house and my entire assets if they played. My buddy would score every time he had the ball.

Yes she's the best women hoops player in the world. That's not good enough to make the top 100,000 players in the world. Once again when I was 18 I was a better soccer player than any woman who ever lived on our planet. Does that make me special? No, because every dude on my division one team and every dude I played against could say the same thing.

We don't agree. I follow science, data, common sense, and human nature. You don't which is fine. I'm willing to let it end like I have already done a couple of times but some of you won't.

I highly recommend reading the Time magazine article about Clark. Her asinine comments just lost the WNBA any momentum they gained last year. Thousands of viewers will now stop watching.

The insanity of the league continues.

I read the interview and didn't notice anything even moderately damaging. Seemed like about the most anodyne thing ever.

I also don't watch/listen to sports talk so I'm not sure what those folks are trying to create.

    What is it?

I don't want to get political. Go to google and type in why people are upset with her comments in the Times article. Type in Clark bends the knee. There's ample information. Twitter is going crazy over her comments.

Bottom line: The new viewers the WNBA is trying to bring in will not come after reading some of her comments. They are insulting and a lie.

Clark like Drew Brees plays in a league that is over 70% black and they have to be mindful of their black team mates point of views and experiences.

Amazing that twitter would be going nuts over a player and league no one cares about. Fascinating.

Related note, absolutely bagged, just played back to back matches against the Williams sisters and happy to report neither won a single set.

Going nuts could mean a couple hundred tweets. When you have some data to show that the WNBA is a money maker and popular with regular dudes i will be happy to read it. Attacking the messenger does not win you points dude. A men's high school soccer team easily beat the Women's World Cup Champion. Are you aware of that? A bunch of 16-18 dudes in high school smoked them. Again are you aware that this happened? Clark is the best women's hoops player in the world and she would not make any division one men's hoops team. Are you aware of that?

If you want to keep up the insanity be my guest. Women cannot be compared to men in athletic competitions. There's no contest and I can't believe I have to explain this to a grown man.

Is there a GoFundMe or anything set up yet to support the victims of her comments? How can we help?

  • 80sOPC80sOPC Posts: 1,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

I get it, men are stronger then women and are therefore better at most sports. But it doesn’t follow that womens sports can not achieve huge popularity. Rhonda Rousey is one of the most successful MMA stars of all time. The Williams sisters and womens tennis is a huge draw.

The fella’s at the precinct might not watch womens sports, I don’t have much interest myself. But half this planet is female and you’d have to be brain dead to not see path to profitability and success for the WNBA. The league just needed a catalyst - same way womens MMA needed Rousey - and here we are, Clark is a huge draw and all signs point towards big time success for womens pro ball.

People that don't like her comments are not the type of people who claim they are victims. They are strong confident happy people who will just turn the channel when there's a WNBA game on TV. Its the other side who claim they are victims. One of the many reasons why the WNBA loses money and is not popular is many of the women in the league are always crying about something and claim they are victims. Maybe you can set up a GoFundMe account for them.

Tennis has always been popular and Tennis is an individual sport, not a team sport. Comparing women's Tennis to the WNBA is asinine. There are no signs that the WNBA will have big time success - NONE. You think because half the planet is female that means ample females will start watching the WNBA is crazy talk. How many of you guys have wives who would be willing to spend 4-6 hours every weekend watching sports instead of going shopping or going on outings/vacations, The overwhelming majority of women do not support and watch a lot of sports. The only way the WNBA takes off is if millions of men decide to start watching and supporting it which will never happen unless there's ample changes with the women who play in the league.

I'm willing to bet you any amount of money that the league does not show a profit. We can make five bets one bet for each of the next 5 years. If you want to bet PSA cards instead of cash that's fine.

I will respect your opinion if you are willing to back it up. If not you are just blowing smoke dude. Making comments without backing it up is lazy and cannot be taken serious.

  • You see, the trick fellas, is to piss somebody off just enough that they privately hurl insults at you in a massive hissy fit, then vow to never, ever communicate with you ever, never again, humph! And, then they don't. Two thumbs up.

Unless you know something I don’t, which is certainly possible, I think this was a 30 for 30 espn documentary that proposed this claim, but also in the same show also offered contradictory evidence. I recall that more as presenting both sides.

Battle of the Sexes and Mother’s Day Massacre. Good times. Regardless I think both were great promotion for tennis in general. Both men’s and women’s.

If you have more info on the battle of the sexes bring a dive I would love some info to read. Thanks regardless.
