I think the fact that the WNBA has lost money over the years and would have folded is not relevant in this instance. On its own, sure, any business would have folded. The NBA owns the WNBA (I think?) and much like many very large businesses, they have segments of their business that underperform and lose money. Somtimes, they cut the bleeding, but sometimes they don't becuase maybe there is a known strategic or competitive advantage of maintaining that line of business. In this case, we will never know what that is. There is no competition to stave off, but maybe the NBA profits in other ways and other segments because of its involvement with the WNBA. Do girls who gravitate toward watching girls play basketball end up taking interest in the NBA? Maybe. That could lead to merch sales and eyes on the product for both leagues. Eyes are what these leagues are fighting for, which leads to ad dollars. We will never truly know, since the NBA is not public and required to disclose financials, how they benefit from the WNBA, but there must be one in order for them to foot the bill each year.

Look at Disney, as an example. The parks division, like the NBA, is a cash cow. However, the streaming business, eventhough they reported a profit in a recent quarter (which could have been the result of conveniently shifting what gets consolidated within that division), has hemorrhaged money. It also struggles from cord cutting, so their TV revenue continues to decline. So, why not just cut the streaming or cut loose some of the TV content? There must be benfit to the company to remain in these areas in order to gain or maintain a strategic advantage or they are benefiting in other areas because of retaining these business segments.

So, saying the WNBA has lost money is really not a basis to make an argument that the league is a failure becasue we truly don't know to what extent there are indirect benefits the NBA might be yielding from their involvement in the WNBA.

Also, I think it's likely that some of the 250+ people who say they don't watch WNBA may not be telling the truth. It is very common for some folks, who when presented with a strong personality, will not answer truthfully in order to avoid potential ridicule and just go along with the personality's beliefs. I've done that on occasion because there are times where I really don't need the negative feedback and the strong personality is not open to an opposing view.

Nobody who I work with (250+people) watched it. Yes I actually asked. I stopped commenting on this thread but some people can't let it die. ** Also another poster tried comparing her to Jordan which is asinine. Jordan is one of the top three basketball players who ever lived. Clark is not even in the top 100,000 players. She would not make a division one men's hoops team. I have a buddy who could EASILY beat her in a one on one. **

Comparing her to Jordan is crazy talk.

Why in gawds name would you think ANYONE is comparing ANY PLAYER to the GOAT, let alone Caitlan Clark? The correlation is impact to the game. If you can't see the impact Caitlan Clark has on the WNBA and women's basketball there is no helping you understand. We all can see the WNBA isn't important to you, your co-workers or your family and friends. Good for you. I've never watched a Cricket match or a World Cup soccer game but I'm not narrow-minded to think that it doesnt have a fan base or the ability to bring in new fans. The WNBA numbers when compared to previous years speak for themselves. CC has made a tremendous impact. It'll be fun to watch the CC the next 4 years and what she does on the World Stage.

To keep the thread on topic, it'll be also interesting to see how her Prizm and Select rookie cards do and whether or not CC can bring in new collector's to the hobby, particularly females. I've seen more females collecting this year than any previous year.

I didn't watch any WNBA, I was busy cleaning my gun, watching football, drinking beer while my wife was in the kitchen cooking the duck that I keeled earlier in the morning hunting. She got mad cause I still had some blood & guts in my beard and my camoflauge hunting kit. I just picked it out with my special edition Rambo knife.

The rest of us normal dudes **watched College Football, the NFL, the MLB playoffs and spent time with our family and friends. I tried to let this topic die but some of you can't. My take on the league is based on facts and the data. The defenders of this trash **are basing their opinions on their feelings. It's not my fault the league loses millions every year going on two plus decades.

I would agree, Marines aren't normal. We all seem to have a screw loose. The great thing is during our off time from the range or the field, we get together in the barracks, BBQ, beer and watch all types of sports, from baseball, soccer, football, boxing and yes, even Caitlan Clark and the Fever. Why is that? Because Marines are from almost every demographic, race, color and creed and normally can't be home to watch sports with their family. So you can call it "trash" if you want but the bottom line is CC is entertaining, which is important for troops & morale and could care less that the NBA loses millions every year. I'm sure we contributed to the 2.8 million viewers that tuned in for the Fever elimination game and damn it was a good time.

Everything you said does not change the fact that 99.999% of sports fans don't watch and will not watch the WNBA. Nothing you said changes the fact that the league lost millions this year and will continue to lose millions. This is not my opinion or the opinions of the people I work with. These are the facts which you don't seem to understand. When the league starts showing steady profits we can discuss this topic again. Regarding cricket that sport makes millions in some countries unlike the WNBA.

Regarding the Clark rookie card that sold for over 80K, anyone who plans on holding this card for a decade or more will lose a lot of money. I would rather spend 84K on PSA 8 and 9's for players like Mays, Mantle, and Aaron.

I do think if you're into the cards as an investment then CC and the W's best players that are coming up now may be a good investment. They seem to check boxes on buying at the start of a trend, there will be less produced and the marketing team behind the W is trying to make them all media stars.

If the popularity continues to rise then these rookies could have a lot of value in the future and I think it will. The holy grail of all sports is to get women's eyes on it and the surveys seem to show that's working. It for sure feels like a higher floor than in the past.

I'm stocking up on her trading cards.
Her along with Judge and Ohtani .
IIMO about the best investments available.

Slow down, while she is off to a historic start until she wins championships it's reach. She will be more like the Steph Curry.

You are close, but you messed up your list: Clark, Ohtani, and Wimby. Judge needs to start playing better in the playoffs.

Ohtani isn't playing in the playoffs that great either :(

More nonsense. Dude the chances you are legit is 0.00001% percent. Regarding all I have is the profitability of the league- That's the main issue. The league has lost millions every year for two plus decades. If this was a men's league it would have folded decades ago. The league losing millions every year is the main issue. It loses money because the public does not watch or care about it. If you enjoy the league that's great. I watched the Roller Derby as a kid and still to this day enjoy it. If someone said the league was a joke and loses millions every year I would agree with them. I would not have my feelings hurt because I'm a man. Men don't get their feelings hurt.

The only people besides crack smokers that took my 99.99999% figure as an accurate figure is less than the number of fingers on my hand. Pure insanity.

Well, you are the one attempting to back up your stand screaming "I got facts and data" when most is just your opinion. Then you get all aggressive calling the women ugly, the league trash and just like above "Real men don't watch the WNBA".
Well, I'm just pointing out that some men(& women) actually do and they are part of America's Finest and part of this forum. It's all great, you're very stubborn and aren't going to change your stance no matter what actual "facts & data" have been posted by multiple members. It's simply not for you. No need to keep disparaging it and attempting to take a stand disparaging the very members of this forum. That is all. Carry on with your plan of the day.

Let's see your 4 TV setup. Please put a photo of your setup. I'm being serious I would like to see it. One of my buddies has 6 sets in his family room and yes he would NEVER have a WNBA game on is his house. Unlike me he hates the league.

Regarding getting over on yourself. That's you dude. You are the one talking up a money loser of a league that very few people watch or care about.

Multi view on YouTube tv can do 4 at once.

Samsung TVs - many of them - also have a multi view feature where you can watch 2 shows. I’ll use that on our outdoor tv often.

Makes me wonder why I can’t have 8 screens at once. We should be talking about that instead of the WNBA.

Not too far from the truth LOL. We have various sized 4 flatties spread around the house and another in storage. As if I could really focus on 4 games at once like my house is a sports bar or something. I can barely focus on one game. :D;)

  • I know that is being suggested that noone would ever watch Caitlin Clark do anything but I will say if there was some Billie Jean King vs Bobby Riggs thing, Caitlin vs. A 50-year-old out of shape former NBA guy with a belly thing, I'd watch it on a Saturday afternoon. I'd maybe also watch Caitlin vs Even By Buddy depending on what else was on. Maybe a series with a new buddy each week. Then after 10 weeks count up how often the buddy won and how often Caitlin won.

I would also be very interested to see whether she could play any role in the NBA and I get the consensus is no, she could not contribute one thing. I am not convinced she could be an MVP or be an all-star or even a starter. But as the last person on the bench, come in just sometimes run up and down the court maybe be open and hit a 3 I could see that being possible. Could her shooting % be better than the absolute worst bench players in the league? Maybe. I'd be interested to see if she could contribute something. Not saying she could but I would not be shocked if she could. 5 points 2 assists.

I'm a big basketball fan so I watch any and really enjoy the W. (last night's game was insane) I'll prefer basketball over any other sport.

There's absolutely no world where Caitlin could play, start or even make an NBA team. Doesn't mean the W isn't enjoyable though.

I know that is being suggested that noone would ever watch Caitlin Clark do anything but I will say if there was some Billie Jean King vs Bobby Riggs thing, Caitlin vs.

She could not make a men's division one team. The women's world cup soccer team that won the world cup years ago lost to a men's high school team and got destroyed. If Clark played in an NBA game and the other team actually tried and played good defense she would never get a shot off. She would be the worst NBA player that ever lived and it would not be close.

  • I disagree on D1. Soccer no opinion and dont think it applies. If the Big3 League was offering her 5M to play with men, I'm wondering what they saw. The part about the NBA game and if they tried and played good defense, that is a big if. If the Arizona Cardinals played great D they may go to the NFC Championship. But they dont. If the Rockies pitched well they could make the playoffs. They dont. I think tons of NBA teams dont play great defense all the time and there could be windows. Times where she could get open receive a pass and make a shot. Where its just about putting the ball in the hoop. However ugly or slow the shot may look. Not saying she would drive over people and dunk. Or be pulling rebounds off the board in traffic. But could potentially contribute something in some role as a non-starter. If she was playing against a Sampson Houston Cougars style defense yeah, that could be very tough and dont think she would shine. But a lot of teams sleep on D. They try to score and just jog down the court waiting to get the ball back. So could she score on a Kenpom 80th or lower ranked D in D1 men's with other male teammates, a Calipari team just looking at making some nice shots and thinking about their draft position when the other team has the ball, I think a little.

I think that it would be fun if each year the top 4 WNBA teams play the 4 bottom NBA teams and any NBA team that loses has to play in the WNBA the next season and can only return to the NBA if they go undefeated.

We all know that no female player could do anything in the NBA. Just as with Serena losing to the 200th ranked men’s player, it is not a poor reflection on female athletes, and there’s really just no point in mentioning it.

If the NBA teams tried they would win every game by 70 or more points. What I would like to see is a high school men's hoops team play 4 WNBA teams and if they go 3-1 or better the league folds immediately. I would pay money to see that.

Stop saying that you female hater. Don't you realize you will hurt the feelings of some people. Facts have no place on a message board.

Heard it first? I live in Southern California and I have heard it hundreds of times. The Dodgers are -194 to beat the Mets and if they play the Yankees they will be the favorite. I seriously doubt the Yankees will win the World Series this year. If Baltimore and Houston had not had ample injuries to key players the Yankees would probably have been eliminated already.> @82FootballWaxMemorys said:

Care to bet the Tigers won't beat the Yankees if they play. Let's see if you really believe what you're saying.

Women can referee in the NBA. I assume you mean playing. I don't know what it would take, but I suggest 5 vs. 3.

Me too. I would pay money to see a NBA team play in the WNBA. But keep in mind, I don't think they would win every game, because remember. The bottom 4 teams are relegated.

Honestly I don't know what this argument here is about. I don't care at all about any of this really... but now I want to see the NBA and WNBA merge into a super-league.

    6v2?

    Give the ladies clubs?

I don't know. Mix it up!
