I actually saw this at the show @ my dealer friend’s table. I passed then even though it had the coveted gold CAC sticker. It wasn’t until after the show that he noticed the variety, took some pics & sent them to me. I missed it too at the show. But I bought it as I can’t resist an unusual variety!

That one definitely warrants the gold sticker! That coin is absolutely stunning!
This was a post FUN buy; I was able to trade in my MS66 as a partial payment. This is the unusual S-6 variety aka the toothpick. There’s a die line emanating from the mouth that gives the appearance of either a toothpick, or the Indian with a strand of straw dangling from its mouth. Not often seen, it’s a 2* variety.
This is currently the only slabbed IHC in my collection, as well as the nicest I own. It was a part of my first ANACS submission and I do kinda like it!

While not officially designated yet, it is the 2* rated S-3 variety. Of note is the close proximity of the date to the rim. The “1” has pronounced doubling, with the “8” less so. There is a die chip on the neck. The “D” hub in UNITED is broken. Finally, there are horizontal die lines around the date, which diminish in later due states.
There are two variations of this variety; this one is the S-3a.
Purchased recently from a collection, I was drawn to the lustrous full RD color. Having both the EEPS & CAC was a bonus.
However, the first two feather tips show a little weakness, which I normally don’t like. Plus, the “189” in the date is a bit shallow. I can attribute both these factors to the die. As neither of these are grade limiting, I’m absolutely fine with the purchase.
@Copperindian, seeing the loss of detail in the feather tips and the date not fully struck would give me no reason to not be happy with that purchase. The color, luster, and clean fields more than make up for it. Nice pick again as usual. Congrats!
Zack.

Honestly, those factors make the coin more interesting to me…
When a nice collection is put up for sale, opportunity knocks:
I have a 1878 65RD up for sale that I’ve owned for a long time. It has an interesting rev cud I’ve never seen on another 1878. But JA won’t bean it as he’s looking for a more mellow RD.
Today’s coin is an outstanding replacement. I’ve always been attracted to coins that have a contrast between obv & rev like this one does. Plus, it’s double stickered & a problem free coin with nice eye appeal (& a bit higher grade).
This is another example from the top flight collection referenced in my two previous posts:
At the 66+ RD level, there’s only one higher 1892 graded in the PCGS system. It’s a beautiful, very lustrous coin that’s minimally marked with both the EEPS & CAC stickers of approval. Exceptional eye appeal!
That 1899 reminds me of a comment in Rick Snow's Pink Sheet years ago (paraphrased).

(Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
I know I shouldn't, but sometimes I hesitate to post coins like this in this thread because they seem to go against so much of what has been posted already. I realize this coin is welcome here, but nonetheless. Anyway, these 1870s pieces in mid-grade with wonderful surfaces and in the OGH are terrific even if I need to take better shots.

That coin is awesome! I’m glad you posted it!
I know we are used to seeing uncirculated examples, but it still is nice to see original coins that were spent in commerce back then and have nice original surfaces like that…
My 1877 is also a similar example.
I couldn’t pass it up…
The IHC Complete Variety Set consists of 185(!) coins. With the addition of this one, I have only 4 remaining! It’s been a very long haul & I still have my doubts it will be completed.
Freshly graded, it was formerly undergraded as a NGC 64BN. This is just the 3rd S-19 designated & the only RB. The other two are BN’s - a 62 & another circulated one. Obviously, this is a very rare coin that’s part of the set as it’s recognized in Cherrypicker’s.
In hand, it’s stunning, with deep RB color & great luster. I’m going to obtain the EEPS at this month’s Central States show & submit to CAC after that.
This is easily the top example known of this elusive variety.

The 1903 S-7 is another obscure 2* variety of similar status to the 1901 S-19 posted above. Unlike the S-19, I already did have a S-7 (graded PCGS 62BN).
This NEWP is much nicer & @ 64BN is the tied for highest graded (with 1 RB). It’s a very tough date with only 6 examples in the PCGS pop.

Nice job, @Goob to get the IHC into an MS63BRN holder. I bet it is nice in-hand.
