Some pretty cool coins have shown up in recent threads, so how about a thread for some more of the best?
Chopmarks, hobo nickels, counterstamps, love tokens, potty dollars, presentation pieces, parking lot finds...
Members here have more than a few great pieces...(@OriginalDan, @HoledandCreative, @habaraca, @BustDMs )...
Post your good stuff, stuff you wish you'd won, national treasures, whatever!
I'll start it off with an amazing coin from the Heritage archives...

Before we start, are Chopmarks PMD?

Pretty sure the boat ride from South/Central America to China qualifies as "post mint". "Damage" on the other hand, is debatable.
Here's an all star. What's this...a $60,000 coin without the chopmarks?
A mint state 1732 Mexican 1/2 reale. A 1795 “quarter”.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
Oops, didn’t read the title carefully enough. Enjoy the 1/2 reale in the previous post but no PMD.

So who makes that call, the TPG'ers?

"stuff you wish you'd won"
Here's a couple I wish I would have won.
100%!
Indeed a real forum All Star!
Reminds me of the Octoganal Geo III that @Justacommeman acquired from, I believe, @MidLifeCrisis..
Let's see that one!
Intelligence makes that call.
@EVillageProwler how much do you miss this one? I am forever grateful you were willing to part with it.
Amazing!
I gotta know if that is a carved Hobo or from a die... cool either way, but very cool if carved!
@jayPem "I gotta know if that is a carved Hobo or from a die"
It was carved.
I do miss this one. Here ya go -
Ooh... more big time choppers!
@OriginalDan may need to show us some unusual Latin American type if he's going to top this... 😅
Stunning.
Tried to keep it US Forum-relevant, but I collect chops from all over. @OriginalDan has definitely got me beat when it comes to range and the really rare stuff, though.
Here another one from the archives that sure to bring tears to the eyes of the tender hearted...
@OriginalDan and @ChopmarkedTrades have the great esoteric chopped coins! Here is my only US, non T$ chopped coin:
Fun thread.......
This recently sold, i thought i bid enough at 400 figured that would be plenty, but alas…
I have not been able to figure out what this is, other than it started out as a genuine 1849 Large Cent.
This is a "post mint" alteration to a genuine Kennedy Half Dollar (note the superimposed Eisenhower dollar image on the obverse, and the extra "S" mint mark between the 97):
Definitely a classic... I was thinking struck in a silverware press?
Can't recall what other theories were put forward, there were some good ones.
This is a nice one that fits the theme.... Cheers, RickO
No it's not. It's damage.
Was given to me as a gift because i love the movie ALIENS. I think it fits under the hobo nickel category?

Sure thing, boss.
That's a spectacular example of the lack of post-mint damage.
3 PMD's
These are my "National Treasures"

Just because it is desirable damage doesn't mean it's not damage. You take a hammer to a coin, it's damage.
Looks like we have some wildly different ideas about what qualifies as the "good stuff" when in comes to pmd... understandable, some won't touch it with a 20' pole, others collect nothing but.
Here's one that ended yesterday. I decided to drop out, but it's a great piece. Was hoping someone on the forum might have won?
Everyone just loves that pedantic guy at the party.
Dan, Dan, Dan... you know you're talking to a Master Debater here, right?
😬
One of 10 known for the O.101 die marriage
@Nysoto, is that a known mark or some kind of renegade?
@jayPem , The coin was probably stamped in South America in an unknown location, as it came from a collection of coins from South America. I would be interested if anyone has seen a similar counterstamp.
Regardless, that's one rare DM!
A few more from the vault. Hope you see something intriguing.

Sort of.
However, i suspect that this one was not carved on a genuine Morgan Dollar.
It is likely that it was struck that way on a non-silver blank (possibly in China).
Probably a fake stamped coin. Still cool to me. Was better than getting another necktie.

I didn't raise the question nor entertain debate. Dan is the one who raised the question and suggested it was debatable. But carry on with your undamaged coins with their original surfaces...I don't feel the need to argue the point.
Nice chopped CBH, @BustDMs!
The original comment was tongue-in-cheek, in a thread meant to celebrate altered coins. Most folks who click on this thread probably understood the context and the comment. But then again, most folks don't feel the need to drop into every single thread and drop some worthless two cents. I make this post at the risk of further derailing a cool thread, but in hopes that less derailing of threads may occur going forward.

Holy cow, that's awesome! What's the story on this one?
Is this one damaged enough for everyone?

Pictures are after and before the crackout.
These are practically becoming common..😄
