That concludes the 75's. There are 50 or so more HOF'ers that were also graded by SGC and that are duplicates of what I am keeping etc. Those are being auctioned.
Congrats on the the Black Batman card #1 grading a PSA-8! I like the notes and would agree that the centering side-to-side is the only reason to downgrade from a PSA-9. Fair grade in my opinion…
The earlier graded copy (1xxxxxxx) looks like a PSA-8 as well, today’s grading standards.
Sometimes it feels like we just find ways to justify a grade that is obviously way too picky for what it is. We can certainly find anything wrong with any card to justify a grade, but that Batman should be a 9.
If a rough edge and slight OC knocks it down 2 entire grades then 1-10 is not nearly enough numbers to adequately grade any card.
The MOST I'd dock that grade would be .5 for the edge and .5 for the centering.
Dang...I thought standards for a 9 centering are 60/40 to 65/35...your card seems about 55/45 centering (centering for a 10 is 55/45 to 60/40...grader mood is everything period!!!

At the end of the day, it's is beyond the grade level specs, it is about eye appeal. When you think about qualifiers, OC is a -2, and technically the highest was a 9OC which is more like a 7. The straight 8 is like a 10 OC, which I think is fair.

It wasn't always so, but I definitely think grading lacks nuance. Once upon a time, graders understood that 60s and 70s cards would occasionally have rough cuts. . .that sometimes the sheets would be fed in such a way that produced diamond-cuts. . .that in some years/issues "fish eyes" were part of the deal (looking at you 74T). . .and the cutting process occasionally yielded some light chipping (esp in 71s and 75s). And they accounted for this in the grades. . .if a card was a slight diamond cut, as long as the worst measure was within spec it got the grade. . .as long as it wasn't loaded with fisheyes, it was fine. . .as long as the corner was consistent with the cut of the edge it was considered sharp. And light chipping didn't get hammered - esp when considering the difference between a 7 and an 8.
But now. . .I'm convinced graders look at vintage stuff and expect it to be perfectly laser cut like anything post-2000 and if it's not they hammer the hell out of the grade.
And as a result, I laugh when PSA draws the line for "vintage" at 1979. Like I'm going to put some 80-84 stuff to be graded along side modern stuff. Nahhh. . .I don't think so.

regardless of the grade, that's the card, and it looks fantastic. Maybe a little more surface artifacts than the older PSA 9, but more appealing centering, if not better. Colors look more vibrant, but that could be due to the differing image qualities. I think it's a very strong 8.
this is definitely a top-5 thread for me. I bet that 75 box was fun to open even though the cards were a little crusty.
Hi All - My Batman #1 is now graded. The GRADER NOTES were: CENTERING Left-to-Right.
The last pic is a PSA 9 for reference.
an eight seems a little low maybe a 8.5 would have been better the centering is not that bad. also like it was said before the rough edge may have downgraded too.

This is the reason I've started sending in smaller lots to be graded. I'm hedging my bets because the grading is so inconsistent. I'll just send multiple, smaller orders.
I sent 3 different orders on the June 1980/Up special and all 3 had some of the same cards. I spread the love out to multiple graders. It's very telling when one group comes back and they're all 7-10 and the next comes back at 5-7. That happened this month. At least my decision about cracking out is with fewer cards than having them all together.
I've also noticed that with how many come back with Miscut/Size/Etc.... issues.
While it has qualities that allow for it to present above it's grade, I totally agree with the grade. That's something I rarely say since 2022. Especially since I've seen non-Batman cards that look similar only rate a 6 or 7.

Please keep them coming. Your rips have always been fun for me.
I still haven't sold my PSA 7 Jim Brown Rookie yet for a Hellcat! I think the NFL did a poor job handling his passing. He is on the Mount Rushmore of NFL greats! It would be Brady, Brown, Rice, and one defensive player: Lewis, Taylor, White, etc.
Successful coin BST transactions with Gerard and segoja.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.

Cakes - don't sell the Brown if you don't have to. It's the KING of Football cards. I have more 76 to share plus others including some off the chart 62 PSA Baseball. This is a journey not a sprint.
Fisk had some of the coolest photos on his cards in the 70s. All of them seem iconic for the decade and the 76 is super-cool and makes him look like a total badass.

Gorgeous cards...I think the tilt may be what holds them back a bit.
Many of the 75's are tilted. How much does that typically affect grading?
That concludes the 75's. There are 50 or so more HOF'ers that were also graded by SGC and that are duplicates of what I am keeping etc. Those are being auctioned.
Every time I think I understand card grading, I realize I could pull a number out of a hat and be closer than what my guess is.

I think also the rough edge cut, solidified the 8..... The 9 would prob be a 8.5 at best today.

Still a bomb Batman 1!!

Typical modern grading standard. So depressing!

^ I do agree with you, but in this particular case had that Batman 1 received a gift 9 it would be for the buy the flip not the card folks.
Except it’s not OC.

What a fantastic group of cards posted. Especially like the Batman series. Vibrant colors abound on that set.
I guess the lesson here is buy cards that have RIGHT to LEFT centering over LEFT to RIGHT centering. Beautiful card.
Seem more like the time to send in the card would have been 15 years back. The 9 shown presents like an 8. Today it might even be a 7.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
That Batman falls within 9 standards. If there is another issue I can’t see it. Great card. Makes me want to open stuff up!
Ok Chris who did you tick off at SGC 🤣 those 75’s are fantastic and thank you for sharing them.
KC
Holy cow, Batman! That card is stunning.
Looks great in it's Bat-Cave.
While it has qualities that allow for it to present above it's grade, I totally agree with the grade. That's something I rarely say since 2022. Especially since I've seen non-Batman cards that look similar only rate a 6 or 7.

Some fun I had a few months ago. Cards were graded through SGC.
I see that BBCE has a sticker with a number on it...that box was 9879.
I wonder what box #1 is
Oh yeah. My favorite set from the 70s. Can't wait to see what you pulled. I opened one of these a couple years ago and that's where I got the Bench 9.
I've always been nervous about vending. That every card will be OC/MC like the Eck. . .and none will be like the Angels team.
Please keep them coming. Your rips have always been fun for me.

Will we have a George Brett sighting....
We probably will but as tough as that card is will probably be a 6. Hope he pulled a unicorn on the toughest card in the set!
That Brett is still beautiful. Color pops and almost no black snow. The image is as good as they come on that card.
Fisk had some of the coolest photos on his cards in the 70s. All of them seem iconic for the decade and the 76 is super-cool and makes him look like a total badass.
SGC loves the half grades
SGC had to acknowledge those corners. Looks like you could shave with them.
That Angels team card is unbelievably awesome.
