If you pull a Grettski I've been chasing that common for a while. Happy to cover shipping.

I was a freshman in high school when we opened 79 packs. Cards were cool. Girls were better.

Look for the error card #8.

@sjjs28 - I kinda have an opinion when looking at others that have been graded but gonna just see what happens. When the dust settles I am going to keep one Graded Gretzky and sell the other two is my current plan.

  • UFFDAHUFFDAH Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭✭✭

I pulled cards from the LEFT of the box facing me to the middle. I got through the entire LEFT side and NO GRETZKY!! I was nervous and told myself there is a reason and they will all be on the RIGHT.

They were all on the RIGHT along with the Trottier and the Record Breakers. Let's just say the RIGHT side was very invigorating!!

  • balco758balco758 Posts: 1,392 ✭✭✭✭✭

What a rush. Congrats on the pulls.!

  • UFFDAHUFFDAH Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭✭✭

@balco758 - Thanks!! I didn't start collecting until 81 so missed out on this stuff. I really wanted to pull a Gretzky myself and have failed with a few packs that I have tried. I should be done with 79 now (knock on wood). More stuff to navigate through though!!

  • brad31brad31 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭✭✭

Thanks for sharing. This was awesome to see. Those are beauties - even if off center. Those blue borders pop.

  • jordangretzkyfanjordangretzkyfan Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭✭✭

Trip Gretzky’s is one sweet break! Congrats on the hat trick and thanks for sharing the rip. The colors on those really pop and very few print spots to boot. Sorry the centering wasn’t better. Topps Gretzky’s are notoriously OC from left to right. Looks like you have a solid shot on a PSA 7 for the one in the middle and on the right. Here’s hoping one lands an 8.

Some more cards I will plan to have graded for my pull and grade collection

    hey UFFDAH,
You see Gretzky and other hockey legends posted almost everyday, but I think this one is Pretty Cool… :)

  • @balco758 don’t be embarrassed. I did the same a few months ago. Early 80’s bring me back to when I started collecting as a kid. Just started back a couple years ago

  • balco758balco758 Posts: 1,392 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hopefully middle one grades a 7.5.

Send them all in together perhaps? Attach a note and pic they came from vending? Ya never know!

I would have major concerns if that swayed PSA's thought process even one iota.

Incredible break. Wow. So cool to see 3 new great ones untombed.

Are you ripping more after that?

  • lahmejoonlahmejoon Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭

    Wow, congratulations on the Gretzkys!

  • gameusedhoopgameusedhoop Posts: 3,585 ✭✭✭✭

Outstanding! Last vending boxes I cracked were 1974 Topps Hockey and 1976 Topps Basketball, yes, the postcard sized ones. That was quite a few years ago, I don't think I'd have the guts to crack a 1979 Hockey box. You beat the odds with 3. Congratulations!

Love it Chris! Congrats on the Wayner hits!

Can't wait to see a few more I know you're itching to rip soon! Cheers!

With out the left ding the right ding nowadays will keep it at 7/7.5

In fact the toothpick is memorialized in a major Royals fan blog https://ulstoothpick.com

Having a great time living vicariously here. This is easily now my favorite thread on this forum! Thanks uffdah!

Hoping you will purchase that unopened Mars Attacks wax pack at memory lane (assuming you pass their absurd 3 interviews + polygraphs +background checks) and crack it open :)

is that a 1973-74 bkb vending box?

  • UFFDAHUFFDAH Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭✭✭

@coinspacks - 74/75 Vending. It started out rough on centering. Note the 2 Bill Walton Rookies. Cards like that. Then it exploded into incredible centering, commons too.

  • JBrulesJBrules Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭✭

Some great looking cards in that box. Wow!!! Tough set to find centered.

  • UFFDAHUFFDAH Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭✭✭

    @JBrules -

Thanks!! Yeah I have opened some 73 and 74 WAX PACKS of all sports and they can be BRUTAL. To the point some cards are virtually junk. I'm very happy and lucky with this box. There is a lot to get graded and will try and get some sent in soon.

  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,742 ✭✭✭

Nice looking tree. Sweet bkb vending. I need that Kareem if you are looking to sell. :)

    Thanks,
