Am staying with the PGA. The "Bear Trap" at the Cognizant tourney always is interesting. Have a few in mind for my play.

Another wide open PGA event this week. Many top golfers resting (?) this week. The play all for top 20. Cameron Young,Cameron Champ,Adam Svensson. March the month all start their positioning for The Masters. Many angles to consider from that point on with the Masters in mind. Scottie favorite so far. Must solve his putting issues.

a lot of action to report. i was gone since last Friday, thus i didn't have time to properly screenshot, crop, post, and create drivel to numb each of your minds. but now i do. :p

i placed that bet on Koepka last week, and when i was leaving town on Friday morning i saw that he had shot a pedestrian score the night before and was way back after round 1 over in Saudi Arabia. at that point i started to tilt a little. things had not been going according to plan lately and i was starting to feel it. and when i feel that way, i then often feel compelled to say f it and chase losses. i really have to fight the compulsion to break that cardinal sin. so i reminded myself that a) that was just one round and Koepka had ample time to make a charge, and b) of utmost importance, keep your cool in the meantime and stay the course.

so i did all weekend with some moderate wagers.

next thing i knew, i was rattling off winners. it wasn't so much the amount as it was the fact that i was actually stringing together successful bets for a freaking change. i usually pay attention to my action as it plays out, but i was so preoccupied this past weekend that a number of times i didn't even know i had won until i pulled up my sportsbook account. i was like shit, i like this approach. so i kept going and didn't try to fix something that wasn't broke. 5 in a row as i rolled back into town. then very late last night i noticed that the PGA Tour event this week had been bumped into today due to inclement weather. so i took a look at the leaderboard, studied it, and ultimately determined that Austin Eckroat had a clear path to victory if a) he didn't implode, and b) one of a handful of other golfers within striking distance didn't go bananas. i liked the price and decided that it was time to punch it. luckily for me, neither of those scenarios i laid out came to fruition and he won by 3 shots.

and on top of that, i very nearly won my aforementioned Koepka bet as well (he missed the top 10 by a stroke).

what's crazy is that i literally went from feeling like every bet i made would somehow find a way to burst into flames, to now having so much confidence that it's shooting out of my pores. but that is another type of sensation that can really send you spiraling. when you refuse to check yourself after a bit of a heater, you're just asking to be humbled by the law of averages. so as a new week commences i'm going to put myself in a headlock, remind myself to chill, and plod away. not completely out of the hole, but close.

nice hit on Cam Young blue 🤙. looking forward to your leans this week. the Masters a little over a month away!

Did 2 last day bets Wednesday. Both top 20. Horschel and Straka. Collected on Billy and Young. Not a big profit as I am a $5 player. But a win is a win. Get to fight another day. Just always nice to punch the gambling gods in the nose once in awhile.🤛

Draft Kings enticed me with a bet and get prop where I bet on the first player to hit a 3 point basket, tough but the offer includes a $1 for every 3 pointer in the game if you lose so I tried and lost but got $16 in baskets.

I take the $16 and put it on the Lakers the other night at +100 and hit so now I got $16 to play with.

I put together some stupid parlay and saw that Akron who was a massive -2400 favorite was up by 2 at the half, Eastern Michigan was getting +1800 ML so I threw a $20 dart at it and hit

What about investing another $90 on the big guys and put $10 a piece on those long shots? Cover yourself a bit?

i guess i'm not fully understanding? there are 69 players in the field. lots of long shots. i'm just banking on one of the top dawgs to take it down, because it hasn't happened yet this season

Bay Hill Bets. With a short starting field had to dig deep for some top 20 plays. Not much value for the first 15/20 players. So another swing at Svensson and Straka. My 2 missed cuts last week. Always like to give previous weeks losing bet another shot. Many times in the past they have come back to haunt me the following week when did not follow up. Also a saver with Theegala top 20. And a top 10 with the Zee man Zalatoris. Good luck to all and stay out of the bunkers. PS:Scotty trying a new putter this week. Hopes to end his putting woes.

    @BLUEJAYWAY

no one who follows golf as intently as we do understands what a mindf that sport is. it can really mess with your head, even if you're a professional. at one point yesterday Jordan was -5 and in the top 5. now, about 27 holes later, he's scraping the bottom of the barrel in the tournament.

and then we have Zalatoris, whom i happen to really like. dude was cruising along with a 3 or 4 shot lead, then the golf gods walloped him over the head and he's looking up heading into round 4. a brutal, brutal game.

Scheffler is the best of the best, but don't sleep on Clark. he's legit. anything, and i mean ANYTHING, is possible. wouldn't at all be surprised to see Will surge again tomorrow.

your bet with him is safe..........congrats. and Thee is right on the cusp.

Tournament was not that close on the final day. But enjoyable just as well. Scottie has solved his putting woes for now. Nice score for galaxy 👍. I profited despite 2 of my picks tanking. Any profit is always welcome. On to the Players next week,Sawgrass and 'the island". Golf momentum picking up speed to the Masters and other Majors.

    Perkdog… well done!
The only gambling I’m doing lately is taking the Royals to win the AL central, believe it or not.
First off, it’s a weak division and the royals starting pitching is much improved. Quality starts in 6 of 7 starts this year. And Bobby Witt is turning into a beast, Salvy is looking like his old self and we have a lead off hitter who could be really good.
Odds were +850 before the season and +950 after they lost the first two games both of which I jumped on. Relief pitching has been the trouble so far but I’m doubling or tripling down this weekend. 😱

You know I could actually make a valid argument that the royals should be the favorite to win the AL central at this point. I put more money on them Saturday at +750 and Sunday at +700.
It was a blessing that the Tigers started with a 6-2 record, that made them one of the top 3 favorites with the twins and Cleveland and kept any attention away from kc.
But the tigers have nothing and will fold like a cheap tent in a 15 mph wind. Cleveland has a nice lineup but just lost Shane Bieber for the year. Still could be a tough team. The twins have a washed up Carlos Santana at first base for some reason and Byron Buxton is due for a season ending injury any day now. And I don’t wish injury on him but that’s just his history just like when kc had the supremely talented adalberto mondesi. He got hurt every single year until kc finally had to get rid of him. So the twins were preseason favorites but I just don’t think there’s enough talent there to win the division.
If the royals starting pitching holds up it’s going to give them a chance to be competitive in a lot of games and hopefully win many of them.
Personally I think it comes down to Cleveland and kc for the division and I just think the risk/reward factor is very favorable to bet on the royals. And of course im a homer. 😉

Biden Administration Orders Ban on Election Betting Markets

The proposed rule would also prohibit placing wagers on prediction markets on less weighty subjects than national elections. Prohibited areas include the Oscars and other awards, sports and sports-connected events, and unspecified subjects broadly classified as “gaming” — a word that I usually translate as gambling but that the commission has been using more broadly.

    @perkdog said:
I didn't see anything that said they were considering banning Sports Betting

The article may be referring to an "exchange" type sports betting market such as what UK based Betfair offers. Whereby the players directly bet against each other, rather than betting against the house. In a betting exchange, the bettors determine the odds, rather than say DraftKings determining the odds.

But I'm not sure, this was the first time I've seen the news story. I don't think that offering political betting is legal in any state. I do know that Predictit for political wagering, is based in New Zealand, and Americans residing in the US are allowed to place bets on it. Perhaps that was the main emphasis of the legislation, to shut down wagering at Predictit in the US? And/or to make sure that exchange type sports betting isn't ever allowed in the US?

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,171 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Pasted:

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is taking steps to evaluate wagering on politics and other major real-world events.

The CFTC has proposed a rule to ban event contracts that are used to wager on politics, award shows, and other popular events in American culture. The rule, which was approved by a 3-2 vote by the CFTC, also bans event contracts involving sporting events. The three CFTC commissioners approved the ban amid election integrity concerns related to betting.
    >
    >

I think i may have gotten it basically right on this. It seems that what this means is sports futures or games are not going to be allowed to be traded on commodity exchanges, such as gold, silver, produce, etc, are traded.

The stock market went up today, yet DraftKings stock price dipped around 3%. So the news story must have spooked at least some investors.

  • bgrbgr Posts: 1,879 ✭✭✭✭✭

Novelty betting right? There was a site around in the early 2000s which had these types of random event bets.

Can we still play the game where we guess how many jelly beans are in the jar without going over??? If not. Does life have meaning?
