Looks like they signed him on a 1yr 5m deal. I don't know about the safety position having a hole when that might be their strongest positional unit with McCourty,Philips,Dugger & Peppers. I think their only real hole on defense is at the linebacker position and that could be solved by drafting some or re-signing Hightower,Collins and/or Van Noy.

Its cute how you are all discussing the salary cap like it actually stops teams from spending
Look around the league at other teams signings. Other teams can sign whoever they want and give them fully guaranteed money regardless of the cap and then go sign more players a week later.
We have the worst GM in the league who lets or makes good players go (Tom Brady take 15 million or hit the road! ) for example . Look around the league , what is watson guaranteed ? Are we sure he is even allowed to play game 1 ? Has he ever won a playoff game? Has Dak prescott?
No problem! Meanwhile lets resign a long snapper for a 5% raise , plus an extra bonus because he went to Rutgers

This is bill bellichek in osprey form he is trying to attract players but look at the sorry state of his nest .
A bit of a stretch but its april its mating season and im out in the kayak taking pics. This nest failed last year just like the patriots and judging by the low effort im seeing its going to happen again .

Seriously though, that quarter of a billion he spent during last offseason's free agency period pretty much came due this time around.

Homie you gotta stop listening to these idiots on the radio so much, they got you so gassed up in their agenda.
Yes It is all real, its all money that is accounted for and the only way to free up money is by releasing players or convincing someone to rework their contracts which is a lot easier said than done.
This isn't rocket science bro lol, they spent the most money in free agency history last offseason and all of the guaranteed money/+ signing bonuses came due this offseason. That's it.

I've mentioned this before but I'd love to see a N'Keal Harry/Andy Isabella trade happen. Both players didn't fit with their original drafting team for whatever reason and this might be the extent of their trade value, movedfor some other team's bust. I doubt Harry can bring back any type of draft pick.
@bronco2078 said:
So you think its fair to saddle some other fanbase with harry ?
No one wants a blocking wr that cant catch even at league minimum
Andy Isabella has very similar flaws playing for the Cards who are looking to move him for lack of fit. Isabella played at Umass and would appear to fit the Julian Edelman role in theis offense to a T. By releaseing Harry you then have 2M in dead money on your books and trading him for a pick is I would honestly slim to not happening.
By trading these two for each other, both teams will have a season to evaluate each player and if it they don't workout just let them walk into free agency.
It's just a suggestion and it can't hurt to ask. I've seen Harry's name linked with Arizona over the past year and the Cards have allowed Isabella to go find a new team thru trade.

Having a guy like Slater is no doubt very important. But even more important is just having a special teams unit, including coverage and kicking, that is mistake free and a difference maker.
I was disappointed in the Pats making so many unusual , little mistakes last year- including on "teams". We were sloppy in a way we usually are not. And this extended to penalties as well as situational awareness. At least this is the impression I got. Anyone else?

I don't think any issues we had with the S/T coverage teams really can be pointed at Slater though. The guy is likely to go down as the best S/T coverage player in history after making the All-Pro first team 5 times, the second team 3 times and 10 pro bowls and counting.
I know we've all griped about signing/drafting guys like Slater,Ebner,Bailey,Allen,Gostkowski & Cardona but since BB came to NE our Special Teams units have been pretty rock solid for years.

I was in no way blaming him, just pointing something out. Slater is a legendary "gunner". Should be a HOF. Gunner is super important. These guys are often the best athletes in college, go pro, and have to find a way to make it. I mentioned here once before that I went to HS with a guy who turned into one of the best Div 2 receivers ever. He went to the NFL and found his home as a gunner. He was named special teams player of the decade by Sports Illustrated. My point is, he was the best receiver in college, barely caught a ball in the NFL. But as a gunner, became a legend. That's what Slater is. https://www.revengeofthebirds.com/2009/12/8/1182943/arizona-cardinals-news-sean-morey
I actually remember when NE drafted Sean Morey. I knew he bounced around as a S/Teamer but not to the success he had. That's great that he found his niche and that you knew him. As for STPOTD,my boy Larry Izzo might have something to say about that.
Weird, both of your comments are now gone. I did read both and saw that youtube block for a TD. Monty Biesel is a name I haven't heard in quite a while, I remember BB bringing him in and Monty sucked so bad he ended up as the team's whipping boy with the media here. He and CB Duane Starks.

ST captain a few years. He made the Pro Bowl. Led his team in ST tackles five seasons. We're talking about 40 tackles per year. Unfortunately, like a lot of these guys, had A LOT of concussions and has dealt with issues.
@erikthredd as for Slater, I love that guy. He plays for cheap. And is truly a leader in the locker room. I think he is a bit of a chaplain, or whatever, in there too.

Patriots special teams were awful this year and its not even important any more. Just boot the ball thru the endzone every time .
They will never go back to the old kick return game and in fact they will probably do away with it. Just place the ball on the 25 and start.
So that only leaves punts. Patriots couldnt get buffalo to punt in 2 games this year and on side kicks are over too.
10 years from now special teams will be a lucky coin flipper

I agree they were not good. But I don't agree on just giving up on kicks. I hate that kick through the end zone strategy.
Did anyone else wish we had kept Younghoe Koo? That guy knows how to onside kick. He is also accurate.
And your punter needs to be able to pin guys in. No more mistakes, and letting them start on the 40.
I think Slater is hoodies favorite all time player lol
Its either him Slater or Bruschi, who was my favorite all time player. Bill looked like he was close to tears during the Bruschi retirement press conference.

I'd take the late round S/T player getting drafted over the secound round safety who should have gone five rounds later anyday lol.
I found this enjoyable and informative, in ways, and thought it could possibly fit here. If anyone reads it and has any thoughts...
Seeing more receiving yards spread around would be good but I'd rather see more TDs from the WRs. Mac threw for 22 with the wideouts catching 12 (Bourne 5/Agholor 3/Myers 2/Wilkerson 2) I'd love to see Mac get up to that 30-32 TDs thrown range.
I'm kind of on the fence in regards to drafting a WR fairly early in the next couple days. For years, it was hard to tell if it was just BB's inability to find decent ones early in the draft or was it more Brady's fault for being hard on young WRs expecting them to get on his level before they've even had their chance to find their way in the league? Whatever the reasoning we haven't seen to many young wideouts develop here during the BB/Brady era.
I don't watch college football so I don't know who's who in this upcoming draft but I've read that Alabama's WR John Metchie III has already had a very good connection with Mac back at 'Bama. He's projected in the 2-4 rounds and seems like he'd be a decent fit in our offense.

its not real eric. Wasn't Atlanta supposedly in cap jail? How is buffalo able to sign free agents while paying thier QB ? How are the rams going to give stafford more money ? They just do it and then the cap websites act like it didn't happen and all the things they claim can't happen just happen.
The cap gurus are about as accurate as the TV weathermen
Homie you gotta stop listening to these idiots on the radio so much, they got you so gassed up in their agenda.
Yes It is all real, its all money that is accounted for and the only way to free up money is by releasing players or convincing someone to rework their contracts which is a lot easier said than done.
This isn't rocket science bro lol, they spent the most money in free agency history last offseason and all of the guaranteed money/+ signing bonuses came due this offseason. That's it.
I use Spotrac's site because you get all of the details for every player/team but this guy is the go-to when it comes to following the Patriots salary cap.

It's not that it's not real, it's just somewhat pliable like TB12. Each team has one or more cap guys. Some are better than others.
Maybe Bill can convince Kraft to free up some of his happy ending slush fund money.

This is bill bellichek in osprey form he is trying to attract players but look at the sorry state of his nest .
A bit of a stretch but its april its mating season and im out in the kayak taking pics. This nest failed last year just like the patriots and judging by the low effort im seeing its going to happen again .
The patriots nest is like 4 twigs if the wind cooperates ill get a pic of the rams nest in a bit its 4 feet tall built like a brick shithouse > @erikthredd said:
50 bucks aint gonna go far
So is Harry out the door yet?
I've mentioned this before but I'd love to see a N'Keal Harry/Andy Isabella trade happen. Both players didn't fit with their original drafting team for whatever reason and this might be the extent of their trade value, movedfor some other team's bust. I doubt Harry can bring back any type of draft pick.

Miamis worst wr becomes new englands best wr
..
Anyone else?
...
He became expendable, but your point is well-taken. I don't think he is necessarily our best, but he will be paid like he is. And his potential is to be our most productive if he gets back to previous form.

I just went to edit to add his name. Thanks for quoting me. It disappeared again. Lol. Yes, we drafted him. He played in the Europe league. Then had great success. Won a SB. Played in two.
Thanks for mentioning the Europe league, I actually remember pulling Sean Morey's rookie card that featured him on his Euro team. I can't remember if it was topps or Bowman.

I think Slater is hoodies favorite all time player lol
At least regarding active roster , you might be right.
Also, Sports Talk is better when you are around @bronco2078
Its either him Slater or Bruschi, who was my favorite all time player. Bill looked like he was close to tears during the Bruschi retirement press conference.

Football is changing special teams is being legislated out of existence. Someone tell bill to stop drafting guys for it and get real players

Over 30 passing TD's for the Mac Attack would be fantastic.
