I like the designs. I love baseball oriented coins, but dont we now have to honor the other leagues too? Its a big world out there with lots of leagues. Eg., the Pacific Coast League which gave us Joe Dimagio, Casey Stengel, and Billy Martin.

Interesting thought! However, it doesn't fit any of the current themes currently being promoted in this country😉🤣😂

The mint learned last year to sell air and have us wait for 5 months to receive junk. They started and stopped many times. They have lots of excuses for this but mostly it’s just irritating. ( I know because I spent alot of time every morning with the Morgan’s, and watching ase’s last year)

Interesting Just tried to buy 300 privys and was reduced to 99 and was informed that was the one order limit. No I don’t have that kind of money, I think it was over $8400 for 99, but was wondering if you could buy hundreds and apparently no😉 But you can get 99

You can make 1,000 orders of 99 though….

  • WQuarterFreddieWQuarterFreddie Posts: 2,672 ✭✭✭✭✭

The Privy still appears to be available. I could order one and went all the way through checkout to the final step but bailed because I have no interest in buying one😉

  • GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,344 ✭✭✭✭✭

Now that the Privy silver $1 has been available for over 4 hours, I believe the Mint is creating demand for the series by hyping the privy coin. Was there any reason for the Mint to shut down sales of the coin yesterday? Did they really fill all those coin orders available. In the past, once a coin became 'unavailable,' there were only a few fleeting moments that you could snag a few the next day or so. This is quite unusual for the Mint in what I can see. Anyone else have a theory?

Was there any "buzz" about these coins outside the people on this board (and in similar coin circles) prior to them going on sale?

I simply think that many individuals who might have been interested in purchasing them didn't even realize they existed/are available.

Maybe they should have had some MLB cross promotions going...or sold some later in the year at ballparks?

Again, I'm just trying to imagine how the NFL would have marketed the hell out of football themed coins!

picked up 99. I'll play the order and wait game. No harm in having a reservation if they somehow pop. If not then I cancel the order before shipment.

OPA said there were only 81 left??

That would be for the non privy and I agree, however I believe the Privy version will have some interest. Using 100 for the privy was a good idea. Max quantity of 10,000 or less would have made it a winner.

For flippers who think they are playing the game, read the fine print. Orders for this presell can not be cancelled. >:)

Where is that in the fine print?

10,000? I’m trying to remember if any silver product limit was that low? That would have made it even better

Screw MLB! - They were RACIST back then and should have NOTHING to do with anything about the Negro Leagues. They only are jumping on the bandwagon while ignoring their racist history as an organization.

The Negro Leagues, started after Black players and coaches were denied entry into the MLB, were made up of seven leagues.

What is the Negro baseball League and when and why was it created?
Because black people were not being accepted into the major and minor baseball leagues due to racism which established the color line, they formed their own teams and had made professional teams by the 1880s.

I’m sure you will find one here or on BST. Keep tabs on this thread or whatever pops up when they ship in 4 months and perhaps you will find a deal as eBay should be alive with offerings but maybe not the best deal 😉
A number of people who missed out on this or that Morgan or the peace dollar seem to not have to pay up that much over cost and shipping. Couple bucks because it’s the right thing to do and they are finding most issues. The CC Morgan is an exception however 🙀

That's right, MLB was the problem back then. :#

MLB helped break the color barrier in America.

The NLs are gone now, a part of history. Many people - including MLB - want to honor those who played baseball in a segregated society. Personally, anyone or any organization who wants to honor those players is OK with me.

"Out of every modern commemorative proof I believe the 2017 Boy's Town had the lowest mintage of approximately 31,600 counting the 3-coin proof set. Even the recent Christa and Law sold more than that."

Perhaps for the proof versions. The lowest mintage total is for the 2017 Boys town Unc at 12,234. Who knows... maybe the 2022 privy marked proof will be a winner... but as mentioned, at the price point, how much do you think the secondary market is going to pay for it??

The US Mint has done a pretty good job of making sure most of the 'meat' (profit potential) has been taken, before offering the bones to the public.

    I agree completely.

I've collected the mint's gold commemoratives for decades now as I'm intrigued by the variety of designs and themes. So I watch eBay's pricing closely. Most can be bought in PCGS PR69DCAM or MS69 for $450-550. With spot at 1796, their gold value is $434.39, making them a very cost effective way of purchasing U.S. gold.

The Boys Town, the key, has a sparse mintage of 2,947. A MS69 just sold on eBay for a new low of $700. and PR69DCAM for $476.

So, the mint's pricing at $664 and $674 for the proof and the baseball theme supporting much higher mintages, over time I would think these will ultimately languish and disappoint.

    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

Speaking of presale is this going to be the norm now. So they can send the 10% to the dealers first then give out the rejects to the reg customer after they come back not 70’s? This is one more reason I’ll set back and see how this plays out.
