The 1915 Buff often comes nice like this, with a full or near full strike and a nice die state. That's why it's usually recommended if you want an early date Var 2 Buff for a type set.
Another special Morgan from the Alberta Gray Idaho Collection. An 1889-CC in AU53. Really great eye appeal to me. A coin I like... Heritage pictures. The coin has not crossed my camera lens yet. This post was inspired by the @LogPotato '93-CC.

Here is a recent newp. CoinFacts says it is the second rarest of the New Orleans gold dollars.
Great thread Lenny!

Winters book says number 3 which I agree with and looking at these for a few years. The 1850 is far and away number 1 with the 55 being a distant 2nd. The 52 is much scarer than the rest of the common dates but way more available in high grade than the 55
My hair, my hair, my hair is on fire! Beautiful toning!
Nice Coin
@Crypto take a look at the 8 or 5 there-a-bouts in the date and compare it to Winter's comments regarding strike. Typically the center of the date portion is weak to non-existant (I saw the 5 on your AU58 as a slightly bit weaker strike, 8's on a few others). My coin does have the typically expected scratching as can be seen horizontally across the portrait. I was really drawn to the color both on this specimen and the AU58 in your collection. Both are so nice in a viewer's presence. Your comment on 3rd place was leaning towards uncirculated. Since mine is VF, I am wondering whether the 1855 and 1852 New Orleans gold $1 are a little closer in similarity scarcity-wise at that circulated level... or whether it is not. I guess I would need to look at population reports for VF as a directional indicator.
Inflated by resubmissions? There are more total grading events and VF-only grading events for the '55-O over the '52-O. The '55-O is a Type II so much more popular as a one year Type... there may be more 'raw '52-O's out there ungraded due to value? The population levels indicate the '55-O has more submissions. Hmmm. The '55-O VF price range is $750 to $1000 on CoinFacts. '52-O is $255 to $300. so the '55-O is up about 3x in value... therefore we would expect more submissions probably. Good study, thanks for noticing and providing Winter's analysis for comparison!
Winter on the 1855-O "The 1855-O is a one-year type which is the sole issue from this mint using the short-lived Type Two Indian Head design. It is also the final gold dollar from New Orleans. It is easily located in all circulated grades and can be found somewhat regularly in the lowest Uncirculated grades. It becomes scarce in properly graded MS62 and it is rare in MS63."
