Pulled the trigger on this Pele rookie issue from a reliable seller in Sao Paolo. Hard to find without paper loss on the back from album removal. Already on its way to PSA, and from there straight to PWCC Vault. Hoping for a 2 or (gasp) a 3.

    I’m just the curious type...

...can you fill me in on the Vault experience and what you like?

I’m just ignorant about it; don’t know much.

I have limited experience. Currently have one card (a different Pele issue) that was in the vault for a spell and is now going to auction.

But I like the concept for a couple reasons. First, they’re running a promotion this month with zero insertion or storage fees, so I can avoid the $100 insertion fee and any storage fees for as long as I keep it there. Second, I’m not comfortable holding something of this value (probably $10,000 minimum in a 2, $15,000 or more in a 3) at home. Third, I’m not comfortable selling something like this myself; wary of slimy buyers out there. I’m cool selling sub $1,000 stuff, but not this.

    So that’s my rationale!

Fitting to follow The Snake with this guy; this SuperBowl champion QB pairing has a decent amount in common between them though I am obviously partial to the one who played for Big Blue.

Wow. $100 insertion fee per card?

Should clarify that the normal insertion fee is 1% of market value (which PWCC determines, presumably in part for insurance purposes, as part of the curation process) up to $100. Minimum fee for graded is $2, for ungraded it’s $10. So anything valued at $10,000 or more means a one-time $100 insertion fee, but a $1,000 item would only be $10.

That’s just insertion fees, though! They also charge storage fees. That fee is 0.5% of market value for the first year, then 0.25% for subsequent years. I don’t think there’s a maximum for these fees, so it could really add up for high-dollar stuff. That PSA 9 ‘52 Topps Mantle that just sold for $5.2 million was in the PWCC vault. Storage fees for that sucker would hit six figures annually! 😱 But that’s probably a pittance for anyone able to have a card like that.

Anyway, that’s the beauty of the ongoing promotion. No insertion fee AND no storage fee for as long as they hold the item!

If you don’t mind me asking were did you find those 1958 cellos? Certainly wasn’t ebay was it? They used to be pretty common but everyone is hording them now.

picked up this 84 rack pack last week on Ebay at a BIN price super cheap steal of a deal with Strawberry on front Mattingly on back and A/S Winfield on front. The listing did not even mention Mattingly showing on back, I just got lucky on this deal.

I agree. If you got one of the key cards showing but unmentioned, you likely got a great deal, unless it's fake? Do Mattingly and Strawberry come in the same cell?

An incredible pick up. For me anyway. I was a big NY Cosmos fan growing up. Went to Giants Stadium at least 50 times to see them play. Franz Beckenbauer returned to 79,000 adoring fans in Germany in 1978 for a Cosmos friendly against Bayern Munich. I was able to find a program of that great game where Bayern won 7-1. I watched the game on PBS Soccer Made in Germany with Toby Charles announcing. The program does not have an address label, which means it was handed out at the stadium. You could be on a mailing list and receive the programs also. They would send it to your house in Germany. Never thought I would find one without a label. This program may not look like much, but for me it was a huge game for me as a child, and it is very tough program to get without a label. This came from a seller in Germany. No one here in the states would have something like this.

Do Mattingly and Strawberry come in the same cell?

Yes, it is at least plausible, as they are both from the same sheet.

They do I just picked up an 84 rack pack at the LCS. Winfield All star card and in the 3rd cell Strawberry on top Mattingly on back. I picked it up for $50.

Thanks for the kind words guys, here are 2 more that came in today. Looks like I need to clean the scanner.

Congrats on the '53 pick ups! One of my favorite Topps designs with the old school team logos. I bought the entire 1991 Reprint Set, in a binder, for $20 just prior to the COVID outbreak.

@sjjs28 Corners and centering definitely give it a chance at an 8.5 however the registration seems slightly off. The 8 is blurry at the top of his hat while the 8.5 is not. Regardless a very strong 8. Nice pick-up.

I’ve never seen a card score a grade 85 before.

guarantee the decimals there. some scanners remove the decimals automatically. and even some pds sometimes. why photography can be better. just not off a nokia, apparently! 😉
