Thinking of the history, I think this coin is 'exciting'

Mexico early / mid 20th century $50 peso gold.
Almost nothing now. About the only thing that does is when an unexpected coin from my series comes up for sale that I want to buy.
Well, many things, in coins, excite me. Something simple and not what many would focus on as I do. I go through tons of CRH. as many know. What tends to get my heart pumping the most is every single time I run across a 1992 Cent. P or D. Esp. when the coin I'm looking at the time is in a stunning RED. Knowing a second later when I flip to the reverse, it could end up being that elusive Variety! When I go through a Bank Box, I seem to find a vast amount of these, but not the "Close Am". Maybe, one day my heart will stop, when I finally hunt one down? Lol.

Pre Civil War gold.
Two thing trump all else... simply finding a really attractive example of a beautiful design, because those coins are wonderful pieces of art, and history--thinking about who may have touched the coin or what it meant to someone back in the day. For the latter, growing up near many colonial NJ landmarks, that history always resonated with me, which is a reason I was so excited when I finally got a NJ colonial copper.
Last year, I went a step further and didn't have to wonder anymore. It's not a coin, but it's money, and the history is undeniable. John Hart was one of the NJ delegates to sign the Declaration of Independence, and he definitely touched this note.
There is nothing better than a fully struck nice red Lincoln wheat back with clean lustrous surfaces. This date is common as dirt but its hard to find such mark free coin, not even any chicken scratches on the shoulder.

Doubled dies, especially when they're cherrypicked.
A Buffalo Nickel or Walking Liberty Half Dollar with a great strike for a year date that does not normally come with a great strike. Actually, most any coin with a great strike. Makes the hunt worth the wait even more.

Getting what I believe to be a really good deal. It could be for a $10 dollar item or a 3,000 dollar item. I rarely spend more than that or the second number would be much higher.
For some reason mint state coins are not my thing. I prefer the look of coins in VG to XF. Even authentic coins are more appealing to me than mint state. I find mint state to look fake especially for coins in the 1700 to 1800's. I know they are real just seem like such a fake look.
This is not mine but this type of look.
There is just something about the looks of a 64-t, definitely one of my favorite New Jerseys!
Very nice note @airplanenut

What excites me, seeing a coin come up for auction or sale that hasn't been on the market for quite some time. Especially one that I need for upgrade or set completion. I get even more excited the closer to the end of the auction. Break out the mad money.
I get excited by the whole picture. A really nice coin that I've been trying to find, rare at any time, suddenly appears for sale or auction in a great holder, with a sticker, from an old collection, with a really cool backstory, with toning that is gorgeous, and is offered for some mysterious reason at a price point where I can play.
What? It's happened a few times.
@KingOfMorganDollar
Very respectable dollar there

The exact type I like in that condition. I prefer it over any mint state. Again it's not my coin was just an example.
What also excites me is the sight of the UPS/Mailman(woman), walking up to my doorstep! With that 5x5x14 PCGS Box in their hand.

We should have drool and slobber emoji's.... Thanks for the excellent picture. Cheers, RickO
Do you like not being excited?
I'm excited almost all the time, at least once a week, sometimes several times.
I'm not sure what's better.
Currently a coin, token or medal with a good story surrounding it. There are history books full of them for the British kings and Roman emperors.
I get the inch to fill date holes in an “album” every once an while for Indian cents. I put those thoughts out of my mind. Perhaps the album fill idea is a sign of senility.
Everything excites me in this hobby.
Exciting - finding a great coin at the right price!
Less exciting is finding it after someone else already bought it...

Exciting - Finding a coin that has been on your want list for a long time.
Turn-off - It’s in an auction.
Right now... this along with the incuse Indian Heads in MS.

Pretty much any DBHE that is F-12 or better. Space flown coins.
Keeping up with your hanging in the air sub theme to this thread, how about this one, which flew on Gemini 4 which was when the first American walked in space.
