Anything is possible with the large volumes At least their system identified the error and it got a scan. The worst case scenario is the dead letter office in Atlanta where your chances of getting a successful delivery rather than having your stuff go to auction are not that great.
Do you know when and where this post office auction happens? I lost a package of 2019W set that fell in the black hole and I am curious what happens to those packages.
That's a good question, but good luck getting your coins back if they end up there, I hear it is a nightmare of disorganization. And that should not be that hard to manage a dead package office. I have had a few packages that probably ended up there and there were invoices inside indicating one or two addresses. Also let's say a PCGS or NGC coin gets separated from paperwork in the mail. It shouldn't be that hard to enter it in a database with the certification companies so they can be reconnected with whoever submitted the coins.
To be fair, you have to know that such a database exists. And you have to know where to enter cert numbers for watches, comic books, artwork, etc. I'm not saying it's rocket science. But if I were running the post office, given the rate they charge for insurance, I'd just pay the claims and be done with it. They must make a fortune on insurance, so there is little cost benefit to actually trying to track down the owners of that 0.05% of packages that get lost.
Due to the fact that their insurance is very expensive as a percentage of the parcel's value, and how difficult it is to get them to acknowledge that they owe for lost parcels and actually pay out and that many people do not insure through them for those types of reasons, their fiduciary duties start when they take possession of your items and end when they are delivered. They owe it to their customers to do the right thing, and do everything in their power to return parcels to the owners. It would be cost effective if they did this right.

I ordered some coin supplies from Wizard before Christmas. Still sitting idle in Chantilly, VA.
This is why I refuse to order any expensive coins that require them to be shipped to me. Buying local until further notice.

Me too! Seems the Priority Mail packages mailed after Christmas are arriving in 2 to 3 days...

I figure it will probably arrive after the new year.

Retired USPS
I have a Christmas gift shipped from Los Angeles to Hawaii on Nov 28 2020. It was missent to Kansas City and has been sitting in transit. 53 days and counting. As a retired employee I've heard that the policy in some facility is last in first out. Meaning that old mail will be processed when they have time.
I received a package today I was worried about had no movement from Dec 27th till mid January then it moved fast. There is hope just have to relax and not think about it to much. Don't check the tracking multiple times per day will drive you nuts just check once every couple of days.
It's getting better; finally had a higher value parcel arrive this week, a priority it took nearly a month. Also had a first class I was expecting take well over a month.
I have two pkgs. I've been tracking. One from GC, other from Heritage. Expected delivery today. I just checked USPS tracking. They are waiting at my local P.O. to be picked up. This hasn't happened since early November. Hopefully the worst is behind us.
I shipped a low value coin ($46) on Jan.3, On the 19th the impatient buyer said that he did not get it and demanded a refund . I did forget to use the tracking on this item. The case is still open. 16 days is way to early, I think he got the coin by now and is going to steal it by lying. It's most likely a case of buyer's remorse. I wait at least 4 weeks before I inquire on a package right now. People need to be more patient, especially right now. I don't care how long an order takes to get here, just as long as it gets here.

I request tracking on all my purchases. Have not once filed any type of claim on overdue items. As long as it is in the system I am not concerned. They'll get here eventually. Had a few in December that sat in Baltimore over two weeks. Patience people, these are trying times we currently live in. I'm just hoping this isn't the new normal.

Ok, so, what if the buyer gets it after the refund is granted? Does he just get to keep it? Surely, you would give more time, if asked. From the buyers impatient attitude, I do not think he will return it. All of the other buyers that I have asked to wait for another two weeks have not asked for a refund after only 16 days, and they all got their items in a few days.

Well, it has happened to me twice this month. [Damn Post Office]
In the 1st case, it was a $5 philatelic item with NO tracking. Since it was only $5, I didn't even ask them to wait. I immediately refunded the $5 and told them they could pay me when/if it arrived. About a week later, they contacted me to arrange payment.
In the 2nd case, it was a $290 coin shipment to Israel with tracking. I paid them. I filed insurance ($100 partial). 5 days later it was delivered. Recipient never answered my emails - I offered a REDUCED price. I did get my money back from eBay seller protection due to the tracking, however.
So, I guess I'm batting 0.500 this month.
Over the years, I have had a fair number of people pay me later. One gentleman almost a month later. The others that had no tracking, there's really no way to know whether they ever got there or not. But it is such a rare occurrence in normal times, I prone to believe that they were indeed lost packages.
@silverpop said: little thing i learned fast always send important things with tracking, that way you and whoever is getting whatever it is knows where and when the package is arriving
I mailed about twenty items that day. Somehow, I did not track that one. The clerk put the tracking on all but that one, I don't know why. I never used to do it on coins worth below $25. But from now on everything gets tracked. I just don't think it is fair to charge $4.00 shipping for a $2.00 coin. Also, you will not sell a $2 coin if you charge $4 shipping.

eBay labels and the post office all have "free" tracking on package rate shipping.

You don't need a label maker. All you need is a regular old inkjet printer. eBay labels is actually the better way to do it - if it is an eBay sale. They are generally cheaper than PayPal and they automatically upload the tracking information so the buyer can see it.
You can either use regular paper and tape it on the envelope or you can buy self-adhesive shipping labels that go right in the printer.

I actually created a 2nd eBay account for cheap stuff that ships with no tracking. I have Top Rated Seller Plus on the main account which requires that I track everything. But, as you say, it is hard to sell a $2 or even $5 coin if you charge $3 shipping. So, I created a second account where I track pretty much nothing and ship it 1st class non-machinable (70 cents or 85 cents). I just add $1 to the price I want and sell everything "free shipping". I've sold over 1000 $10 and under items in the last 12 months that way. It's probably still not worth my time, but it gets rid of low end accumulation and postage stamps that I had laying around.
i do free shipping myself cause what i sell covers the cost of stamps, labels and padded mailers
weigh the package put whatever the amount of stamps are required on and then go to post office and mail with tracking, give the tracking # to the person and go from there
Just had a moron eBay buyer open a case against me for item not delivered. His package wasn't any slower than anyone else's and his feedback shows he's also a seller, so it's not like he doesn't know what's going on.
Expedited shipping was free.
I sent it out before noon the morning after he paid (previous night).
He's now blocked.

Back in October, I had a package that was "OUT FOR DELIVERY" that never arrived.
After the mail person came by without my package, I called the post office. The lady said they were running behind and had to call other workers in. It would probably arrive later in the day.
The next day, it showed still "out for delivery". Still no package.
I called the PO Supervisor, who told me he would attempt to locate the package. He said that the package might have been stuck in the wrong mail box. He said the day that it was supposed to be delivered was a hectic day. He is having somebody check the neighbors in my area to see if they got the package. He is hoping that somebody sees the package is not theirs and return it. So don't give up hope he said.
He said to give it at least a couple more days. If the package does not show up, you will have to file a missing report, or whatever you do for a lost package.
Bad news. PO Supervisor said that he and others went door to door seeing if somebody had the missing package. He said the mail carrier did not even remember the package. He said either nobody has the package, or they are being dishonest about it. So, he said to go ahead and submit the insurance claim. They have reached a dead end.
So, fast forward to last week. I was waiting for three packages "OUT FOR DELIVERY". Only two packages arrived. I immediately called the PO.
I talked to the same person I did in October. She gave me the same story as in October about another person out delivering packages. I told her that she told me the same thing before, and I never did get my package. I gave her the tracking number, and she said she would check on it right away. She called me back within a matter of minutes, and told me the carrier would bring my package by shortly. The carrier didn't know that I had a third package.
Shortly thereafter, the mail truck sped up to my mail box, and delivered my third package. I wonder if that package would have disappeared forever too if I hadn't called right away.

You don't need a label maker; all you need is a printer and some paper if you have a computer. You can do the same thru USPS Click n Ship! I prefer PP because my credit card info is better protected. Either way you also need a way to get your package weight. Also the old way of hand addressing it and standing in line still works. A lot of people think paying for USPS insurance is foolish. I think paying a few bux or whatever for tracking is also foolish.
Awhile back I wanted to send something to the IRS so rather than pay the fee for certified mail I put the documents into a small bubble envelope, added some peanuts to meet the 3/4 inch thickness and printed a label for half of what it would cost for certified.

Did the tracking time stamp on the delivered packages match the delivery time or the out for delivery time? A lot of times they may scan them as delivered before they start their route.
I think the deliveries seem to be getting better. The last 3 packages that I sent Priority 2-Day seem to get delivered progressively faster. The first one took 13 days, the next one took 9 days and the last one that I sent out last week only took 4 days. Still not as quick as before on the Priority 2-Day, but better.

I had a package delivered yesterday.

Still waiting on a package sitting in Detroit since December13.
Anybody else been waiting that long with no movement?
Yes, two packages stopped moving on December 14th.

December 11th mailed package...finally moved Saturday for the first time. Hope this is a sign things are moving again.

Me too! Seems the Priority Mail packages mailed after Christmas are arriving in 2 to 3 days...
This package arrived today. It only took 50 days
.
I had a package stuck in Indy for 4 days.
Wow! That beats my 30 day record!
Today I received 2 packages that were shipped Dec 14th or around there. One was a 1878-CC for my 7070.

The other was an Ike Bicentennial set.

I thought that this delay thing was over. Shipped a coin on January 4th., it arrived yesterday.
I think you're lying about sending it.
[I don't, of course, but you are assuming a lot about a package that has no tracking. If I were the buyer, with no tracking number, I'd have no way to know you shipped it. After 16 days without evidence of shipping, I might well assume that you are scamming me.]
I request tracking on all my purchases. Have not once filed any type of claim on overdue items. As long as it is in the system I am not concerned. They'll get here eventually. Had a few in December that sat in Baltimore over two weeks. Patience people, these are trying times we currently live in. I'm just hoping this isn't the new normal.
packages i use the three day first class retail service no issues with stuff getting to where it's going ,yeah maybe late sometimes but it arrives
all else goes though just plain first class mail and had no issues with things getting to where they need to be

Shipping times seem to be improving 10 fold. I had 2 packages come in this week. 1 was on-time and the other arrived a day earlier than expected.
Ok, so, what if the buyer gets it after the refund is granted? Does he just get to keep it? Surely, you would give more time, if asked. From the buyers impatient attitude, I do not think he will return it. All of the other buyers that I have asked to wait for another two weeks have not asked for a refund after only 16 days, and they all got their items in a few days.
little thing i learned fast always send important things with tracking, that way you and whoever is getting whatever it is knows where and when the package is arriving

Everything I've shipped or received in the last 6 months has been on time or just a couple days late.
Generate your labels with www.paypal.com/shipnow and you won't have to worry about forgetting tracking because it's included and it's FREE!
I do not sell enough stuff to make it worthwhile to buy a label maker. But, I will look into it.
eBay labels and the post office all have "free" tracking on package rate shipping.
It's probably still not worth my time, but it gets rid of low end accumulation and postage stamps that I had laying around.
i do free shipping myself cause what i sell covers the cost of stamps, labels and padded mailers
weigh the package put whatever the amount of stamps are required on and then go to post office and mail with tracking, give the tracking # to the person and go from there
that way all bases are covered so to speak

Somewhat OT, but if I had a bunch of $2 coins I wanted to get rid of, I'd most likely sell them as a single lot, or at least grouped into lots. YMMV.

99.9999999% of what I ship is non-Bay sales so I prefer the PP way.
Worse incoming shipments tracking will say “delivered P.O. Box” but it’s not there until a couple of days later. Aggravating.
Hopefully things are looking up.

Yes, of course. Although even then I think there are other options which may be cheaper.
My favorite one was right before Christmas when my "Informed Delivery" email in the morning said I was getting a priority package that day. Didn't arrive and had no tracking updates for 12 days before it finally arrived 15 days later.
Such as?
