107 card bulk modern just moved to QA 1 after about 5 and a half weeks in assembly. Hopefully not too much longer.

291 Card Value-Modern physically arrived 2/21/21, entered 4/19/21, Assembly 5/5/22 and popped 5/25/22. I thought it went similar to my past subs: Some heartbreaks, some as expected, but a few really nice upside surprises too. Overall, can't complain as I think I had maybe $750 total out of pocket before grading fees in all these cards. First time sending in lots of junk wax era as just wanted to get them in at the $12 price knowing many will be worth next to nothing if not a 10 but ended up being my largest sub ever. Of the junk era grades it just appears that anything with Griffey on it gets slammed. But I previously encountered that when sending in his minor league issues. I also felt that for 1990 & 1991 UD & Parkhurst hockey, they grade the French versions more harsh. 1990 OPC Premier was as expected. The only 2 true heartbreaks in my mind were the 1982 McDonalds Gretzky stickers #20 & #22. I truly thought they were mint with a shot at 10 based on centering & corners. Stickers are always tough. Yet on the upside surprises, I thought the 1989 Swedish Semic Hasek was going to get a 4, so was thrilled for the 6. The 1986 Procards Visquel PSA 10 was a pleasant surprise, I got a lot of love on all the 1991 Skybox Jordan 10s, but the ones that made my jaw drop were the 2 1980 TCMA Wichita Aeros Lee Smith at 10 & 9. I bought I believe 5 sets for like $75 total maybe 7 years ago and sent in 2 previously I thought were best and got a pair of 8's. I thought these would get the same 8's too so I was blown away by the 9 & 10 as 1980 TCMA with the red borders is so tough. And the best surprise? No upcharges even though there should have been a few especially for sneaking in the old Maradonas! Thanks PSA!

PSA has had my cards for 16 months now….still in "Grading" (They were actually entered 05.04.2021). PSA is simply overpriced, inconsistent, and way, way SLOW. A terrific combination! No thanks.
There absolutely has to be something wrong when you can get a $50 submission back in 15 to 18 days and other in-hand orders are wallowing for months.... now even years! My puny little 20 card submission was entered 4/14/2021.
Just give me my order back sometime this century so I can close the book on this fiasco!

Got some nice surprise poppage. Was not expecting it so soon. 18 days turnaround on comic books is pretty cool. Think they were charging $24 for 180 days and $15 more for quick turnaround which was supposed to be 39 days. So they blew that out of the water. Dont know much about comics but had these sitting around all this time and I like getting things slabbed so thought I would give it a try. Was not necessarily looking at it as a return on investment thing. Just was interested in getting them slabbed for the PC and knowing soon. Very pleased with the results. I knew the 7.0 was not that great looking but it just was something I always loved so wanted to see it in the case.
Finally getting some cards back from the great backlog. Most of what I sent in was for registry sets I’m working on. Initial impressions is that things are slightly different and the 6s and 7s popped more than I would have liked or have seen in the past. Nothing that was a head scratcher as I can see what kept them from mint just wasn’t sure they warranted the extreme drop.

I'm in QA2 Step 7 and the site is down for maintenance. Noooo. Cant remember seeing that previously. Any idea how long that lasts? And if your grades pop you probably cant see them right? I can see the stage but it wont let me click on Orders for Details. If we are this late in the game, does that mean I wont be contacted for upcharge? If so, I guess no grand slams this time. Or 3-run homers. But maybe a 2 run-homer. And a double and a walk.

Usually only a week or two. Just kidding. A couple of hours at most. They usually do it during "off hours" but must be something urgent. Good luck!
@halosfan - Love all of those cards! It does bother me that they decided to slab all of the horizontal cards with the flip on the right but not the Doc though. It was obviously the same person slabbing them.

The seems to never be consistent with horizontal cards. It should be better

The Gooden makes sense if you look where it says "Leather & Lumber" on the front of the card (plus the back of the Gooden card is vertical). Same with the Kosar if you look at "Endorsements" on the front of the card, and the back is also vertical. The Williams and the West have all horizontal text on front and back so at least they're consistent with the general rule of "read from the right edge" when you have the slab tilted vertically. I'm really not trying to defend PSA here, but I can see their reasoning to make the Gooden different.

Technically, I agree with you; but were talking about simply standard label placement across the board for horizontal cards. Not talking about the back either. I've seen 1956 topps where the placement is different. This drives set collectors crazy. Put the label on left or right....not both. How easy is that standard ??

Remember the board buzzing about the price increase on value around that time? It was the worst kept secret and they are just getting into it I suppose.
My outstanding order arrived on 3/16 and has been in grading since 8/1/2021. Even if PSA is churning out 900k cards a month, it still seems like a long way from completing the backlog.
It has been a disaster... don't even mention the diminished value of a membership for a guy like me. It simply isn't feasible to submit most of the cards I collect at $50 a pop. With many, even $20 was a stretch but I could live with it. Bad times.

it has been so long without my cards that my memory may be foggy but I thought they shut down subs on March 31st? They finally got caught up on order entry in late May.
They are currently up to what , 900K a month grading. Was probably less than 500K back then . based on 90% capacity and todays capacity it would be 16 months to clear. based on capacity back then 29 months. so as psa has stated, the backlog should be cleared by the end of the year which is somewhere in between.
According to PSA the backlog a week or two ago sat around 3.6 million cards. Over half of those are graded but waiting on assembly and shipping. They are churning out roughly 800k cards per month which would put the backlog (even at 80-85% capacity dedicated to backlog) around 5 months. You can be assured that we will not see a $10-12 rack rate ever again. My guess is $20-25 will be the bottom. I will take Nat at his word that they will work on doing stuff for the registry folks and I expect that will come in the form of specials. Hopefully a $10-12 rate will be available then. If not, several hundred cards for my sets will remain raw and I’ll be out of the registry completely and I’ll let my membership lapse. I was primarily flipping to support my registry sets and I bet there are a lot of others doing the same.

Yes but if you created a submission on March 31 you still had 30 days to get the package in their hands before the order expired.

trying to give people a guide who were new to this last year, anything submitted just before they shut down still has a ways to go. they are still grading orders that were received in january and things blew up from there. simple extrapolation puts stuff received in march at a minimum of 3 more months and knowing the exponential increase in orders it is probably 6 more months
We talk about 900k slabs in a month... aside from the labor it takes to process and grade that many cards/packs in a month, could you even picture how much plastic that is to produce those slabs? I know what around 200 slabs looks like together... but 900,000 slabs?? Per Month??
If you stack (4) standard graded cards, it's about an inch tall. If you stack 900,000 standard graded cards, that's over 3.5 miles long... per month. If you stack them on standard pallets 6' high (slabs only, not in cardboard boxes), you're talking about 36 full pallets of slabs. Holy Hell. LOL
@jeffcbay interesting point. Pretty crazy and they have to have more than that on-hand too! I want to know what happens to all the card saver 1’s though!
Yeah, I don’t think PSA is winning any environmental awards anytime soon if they are just tossing all those card savers most of which were probably used just the one time to mail them a card.
They put stickers on all of them like when they get them from the start. They are ruined and not brand new until the end. Like when you get one returned for min size. They have tracking stickers from the start. So not sure why anyone would want a bunch of card savers with stickers on the fronts

Good to hear that something is moving. I wonder why the CTD for this group is still stuck on 03/04? I have a submission that was entered a few days after yours that is still in grading (and has been for months).
Anyone have any experience with how long, in the $50 allocation world, it typically takes to movie from Step 7 QA2 to Step 8 Ship/Pop? It sat in grading for a little while but then moved quickly from steps 5 to 7. Maybe only a day to advance to the next step each time. But now I have been holding my breath and gritting my teeth for maybe the last 72 hours. Felt like this was maybe the quickest step. On my big 14 month wait $12 a card order think it went from 7 to 8 quick. Seems logical. They just have to confirm labels and put it in the mail and then they get to accept the money. Feels like there would be a lot of motivation to fly through those steps.
Thanks envoy. I will breathe again. The only bright spot is maybe it hits next month's credit card statement. Ha ha. This is a big one and its starting to resonate. All those card investment decisions made in the year plus during the pandemic, expensive decisions, going to find out if it was a success or epic fail soon. I got the bottle ready either way. It would serve both purposes. Celebration or drown the miseries.
I am beyond ecstatic. This is my best submission by a landslide on a per card success basis. I only wish I didn't submit one card out of the 20. Usually feels like more than half. This is actually a lot better than my best case scenario. I wish I could put a lot of cards in front of this same person today. Any way to request a person? Leave a note, Please put these in front of Ron. I could slip a large bill in the submission. Ha ha. This is a huge huge win for me. No regrets about some questionable calls now.

Well guys, I finally got my cards back. I sent in a 28 card order that arrived Jan 7, 2021 - the ungraded portion of my 2016 Francisco Lindor Topps rainbow (had 12 10's already). At the time, he was still a star for the Cleveland Indians - a lot has changed! This is the full rainbow except the 1/1's - still keeping an eye out for those!

I'm getting one ready too. For me, 20 cards is about right for what I'm comfortable sending at this price point, so I think I'll do one order. I have a bunch of cards I'd like to have dual-graded, but certainly not 20. It would definitely be nice for me if were possible to send a mix of cards in a single order- some dual-graded, some not - but I guess you can't.
I am still waiting on a "Modern" value sub (the cards are (75 thru 77 Topps) that was officially entered on 05/04/2021 and received in March. It is 59 cards total and still in "grading" (sitting on a shelf somewhere). I will not be submitting to PSA anymore. Waiting well over a year to get grades? TOTALLY unacceptable. It is not like PSA is an economic value. New ownership/management is completely focused on making money. Understood. However, I quite literally did not sign up for this. The deal was different when I slapped down my money for a membership.
With current card values being at pre-pandemic lows, it's difficult for me to justify submitting enough cards to fill the 20-card minimum in the $30 Value Tier. A year ago it would have been a no-brainer. I only have about a dozen that would make the cut, in my opinion.
I currently have three cards sitting in a $50 Economy Tier sub, so that's enough to scratch my itch for now. In the meantime, I'll be waiting patiently for the next tier (maybe a $20 - $299 max value tier). I hope it doesn't take too long, since my Collectors Club Membership is a ticking clock.

That's sure the truth. The cards I'm picking for my submission I'm trying to ensure their prices aren't on a downward trajectory. Otherwise, might as well just wait for better grading prices. For me, 15 cards would be better. The last few are a bit of a stretch. Hopefully by September, the cards aren't completely worthless. lol

291 Card Value-Modern physically arrived 2/21/21, entered 4/19/21, Assembly 5/5/22 and popped 5/25/22. I thought it went similar to my past subs: Some heartbreaks, some as expected, but a few really nice upside surprises too. Overall, can't complain as I think I had maybe $750 total out of pocket before grading fees in all these cards. First time sending in lots of junk wax era as just wanted to get them in at the $12 price knowing many will be worth next to nothing if not a 10 but ended up being my largest sub ever. Of the junk era grades it just appears that anything with Griffey on it gets slammed. But I previously encountered that when sending in his minor league issues. I also felt that for 1990 & 1991 UD & Parkhurst hockey, they grade the French versions more harsh. 1990 OPC Premier was as expected. The only 2 true heartbreaks in my mind were the 1982 McDonalds Gretzky stickers #20 & #22. I truly thought they were mint with a shot at 10 based on centering & corners. Stickers are always tough. Yet on the upside surprises, I thought the 1989 Swedish Semic Hasek was going to get a 4, so was thrilled for the 6. The 1986 Procards Visquel PSA 10 was a pleasant surprise, I got a lot of love on all the 1991 Skybox Jordan 10s, but the ones that made my jaw drop were the 2 1980 TCMA Wichita Aeros Lee Smith at 10 & 9. I bought I believe 5 sets for like $75 total maybe 7 years ago and sent in 2 previously I thought were best and got a pair of 8's. I thought these would get the same 8's too so I was blown away by the 9 & 10 as 1980 TCMA with the red borders is so tough. And the best surprise? No upcharges even though there should have been a few especially for sneaking in the old Maradonas! Thanks PSA!

PSA has had my cards for 16 months now….still in "Grading" (They were actually entered 05.04.2021). PSA is simply overpriced, inconsistent, and way, way SLOW. A terrific combination! No thanks.
There absolutely has to be something wrong when you can get a $50 submission back in 15 to 18 days and other in-hand orders are wallowing for months.... now even years! My puny little 20 card submission was entered 4/14/2021.
Just give me my order back sometime this century so I can close the book on this fiasco!

Got some nice surprise poppage. Was not expecting it so soon. 18 days turnaround on comic books is pretty cool. Think they were charging $24 for 180 days and $15 more for quick turnaround which was supposed to be 39 days. So they blew that out of the water. Dont know much about comics but had these sitting around all this time and I like getting things slabbed so thought I would give it a try. Was not necessarily looking at it as a return on investment thing. Just was interested in getting them slabbed for the PC and knowing soon. Very pleased with the results. I knew the 7.0 was not that great looking but it just was something I always loved so wanted to see it in the case.
Finally getting some cards back from the great backlog. Most of what I sent in was for registry sets I’m working on. Initial impressions is that things are slightly different and the 6s and 7s popped more than I would have liked or have seen in the past. Nothing that was a head scratcher as I can see what kept them from mint just wasn’t sure they warranted the extreme drop.

Cant remember seeing that previously. Any idea how long that lasts? And if your grades pop you probably cant see them right? I can see the stage but it wont let me click on Orders for Details. If we are this late in the game, does that mean I wont be contacted for upcharge? If so, I guess no grand slams this time. Or 3-run homers. But maybe a 2 run-homer. And a double and a walk.

@halosfan - Love all of those cards! It does bother me that they decided to slab all of the horizontal cards with the flip on the right but not the Doc though. It was obviously the same person slabbing them.
The seems to never be consistent with horizontal cards. It should be better
The Gooden makes sense if you look where it says "Leather & Lumber" on the front of the card (plus the back of the Gooden card is vertical). Same with the Kosar if you look at "Endorsements" on the front of the card, and the back is also vertical. The Williams and the West have all horizontal text on front and back so at least they're consistent with the general rule of "read from the right edge" when you have the slab tilted vertically. I'm really not trying to defend PSA here, but I can see their reasoning to make the Gooden different.
Why not just all horizontal cards on the front have the label to the right. Done.
Because the back might be upside down... or certain words on the card's front might be upside down. (see above post)
Whats the current wait for Economy currently? I have one rec 5/04 entered 5/06 in grading. Are they going the full 90days or a month or so?

Technically, I agree with you; but were talking about simply standard label placement across the board for horizontal cards. Not talking about the back either. I've seen 1956 topps where the placement is different. This drives set collectors crazy. Put the label on left or right....not both. How easy is that standard ??
Is it me or has the cards that have been at PSA over a year slowed down since they opened up submissions again?
It's more to do with which part of the backlog they have begun working on, that being the massive onslaught of daily shipments they were receiving end of April, start of May 2021 when they announced they were closing submissions.
From a March 30, 2021 Forbes article. "On a single day in late March, the company received 660,000 cards. “We literally broke the USPS in Southern California,” Turner says. “They called us and said they couldn’t manifest the boxes. I think we rented school buses with security guards and drove to USPS to pick them up.”
As the backlog approached 13 million cards, the company had to rent temporary storage space and kick employees out of private offices to make room for the new submissions. Overwhelmed, PSA announced last March 30 that it was suspending service at its lower tiers. That prompted an outcry from collectors, but the company saw the pause as an opportunity not only to catch up but to scale up."
Remember the board buzzing about the price increase on value around that time? It was the worst kept secret and they are just getting into it I suppose.
My outstanding order arrived on 3/16 and has been in grading since 8/1/2021. Even if PSA is churning out 900k cards a month, it still seems like a long way from completing the backlog.

It has been a disaster... don't even mention the diminished value of a membership for a guy like me. It simply isn't feasible to submit most of the cards I collect at $50 a pop. With many, even $20 was a stretch but I could live with it. Bad times.
it has been so long without my cards that my memory may be foggy but I thought they shut down subs on March 31st? They finally got caught up on order entry in late May.
They are currently up to what , 900K a month grading. Was probably less than 500K back then . based on 90% capacity and todays capacity it would be 16 months to clear. based on capacity back then 29 months. so as psa has stated, the backlog should be cleared by the end of the year which is somewhere in between.
According to PSA the backlog a week or two ago sat around 3.6 million cards. Over half of those are graded but waiting on assembly and shipping. They are churning out roughly 800k cards per month which would put the backlog (even at 80-85% capacity dedicated to backlog) around 5 months. You can be assured that we will not see a $10-12 rack rate ever again. My guess is $20-25 will be the bottom. I will take Nat at his word that they will work on doing stuff for the registry folks and I expect that will come in the form of specials. Hopefully a $10-12 rate will be available then. If not, several hundred cards for my sets will remain raw and I’ll be out of the registry completely and I’ll let my membership lapse. I was primarily flipping to support my registry sets and I bet there are a lot of others doing the same.
Yes but if you created a submission on March 31 you still had 30 days to get the package in their hands before the order expired.

trying to give people a guide who were new to this last year, anything submitted just before they shut down still has a ways to go. they are still grading orders that were received in january and things blew up from there. simple extrapolation puts stuff received in march at a minimum of 3 more months and knowing the exponential increase in orders it is probably 6 more months
We talk about 900k slabs in a month... aside from the labor it takes to process and grade that many cards/packs in a month, could you even picture how much plastic that is to produce those slabs? I know what around 200 slabs looks like together... but 900,000 slabs?? Per Month??
If you stack (4) standard graded cards, it's about an inch tall. If you stack 900,000 standard graded cards, that's over 3.5 miles long... per month. If you stack them on standard pallets 6' high (slabs only, not in cardboard boxes), you're talking about 36 full pallets of slabs. Holy Hell. LOL
@jeffcbay interesting point. Pretty crazy and they have to have more than that on-hand too! I want to know what happens to all the card saver 1’s though!
Yeah, I don’t think PSA is winning any environmental awards anytime soon if they are just tossing all those card savers most of which were probably used just the one time to mail them a card.
They put stickers on all of them like when they get them from the start. They are ruined and not brand new until the end. Like when you get one returned for min size. They have tracking stickers from the start. So not sure why anyone would want a bunch of card savers with stickers on the fronts
I have a 4/30/2021 Value Modern that was in Grading for months move into Assembly last weekend. Still languishing there.

Good to hear that something is moving. I wonder why the CTD for this group is still stuck on 03/04? I have a submission that was entered a few days after yours that is still in grading (and has been for months).
Anyone have any experience with how long, in the $50 allocation world, it typically takes to movie from Step 7 QA2 to Step 8 Ship/Pop? It sat in grading for a little while but then moved quickly from steps 5 to 7. Maybe only a day to advance to the next step each time. But now I have been holding my breath and gritting my teeth for maybe the last 72 hours. Felt like this was maybe the quickest step. On my big 14 month wait $12 a card order think it went from 7 to 8 quick. Seems logical. They just have to confirm labels and put it in the mail and then they get to accept the money. Feels like there would be a lot of motivation to fly through those steps.
@UlyssesExtravaganza 5-7 days on the last 3 Economy subs I sent. Most recent was 6 days and those popped on 6/1.

The only bright spot is maybe it hits next month's credit card statement. Ha ha. This is a big one and its starting to resonate. All those card investment decisions made in the year plus during the pandemic, expensive decisions, going to find out if it was a success or epic fail soon. I got the bottle ready either way. It would serve both purposes. Celebration or drown the miseries.
Don't get too excited. My Value Modern from last year has been in Assembly since May 4th. You probably have a ways to go.
I am beyond ecstatic. This is my best submission by a landslide on a per card success basis. I only wish I didn't submit one card out of the 20. Usually feels like more than half. This is actually a lot better than my best case scenario. I wish I could put a lot of cards in front of this same person today. Any way to request a person? Leave a note, Please put these in front of Ron. I could slip a large bill in the submission. Ha ha. This is a huge huge win for me. No regrets about some questionable calls now.

I'm getting one ready too. For me, 20 cards is about right for what I'm comfortable sending at this price point, so I think I'll do one order. I have a bunch of cards I'd like to have dual-graded, but certainly not 20. It would definitely be nice for me if were possible to send a mix of cards in a single order- some dual-graded, some not - but I guess you can't.
I am still waiting on a "Modern" value sub (the cards are (75 thru 77 Topps) that was officially entered on 05/04/2021 and received in March. It is 59 cards total and still in "grading" (sitting on a shelf somewhere). I will not be submitting to PSA anymore. Waiting well over a year to get grades? TOTALLY unacceptable. It is not like PSA is an economic value. New ownership/management is completely focused on making money. Understood. However, I quite literally did not sign up for this. The deal was different when I slapped down my money for a membership.
With current card values being at pre-pandemic lows, it's difficult for me to justify submitting enough cards to fill the 20-card minimum in the $30 Value Tier. A year ago it would have been a no-brainer. I only have about a dozen that would make the cut, in my opinion.
I currently have three cards sitting in a $50 Economy Tier sub, so that's enough to scratch my itch for now. In the meantime, I'll be waiting patiently for the next tier (maybe a $20 - $299 max value tier). I hope it doesn't take too long, since my Collectors Club Membership is a ticking clock.
That's sure the truth. The cards I'm picking for my submission I'm trying to ensure their prices aren't on a downward trajectory. Otherwise, might as well just wait for better grading prices. For me, 15 cards would be better. The last few are a bit of a stretch. Hopefully by September, the cards aren't completely worthless. lol
