Good point Jayman. I think modern cards have more of a straight line grade correlation chance than vintage cards, even with BGS grading. Also, current PSA grading climate for pre-1981 cards would lead me to keeping cards in slabs for now.

I think BGS (NOT BVG and CERTAINLY NOT BCCG) is more comparable to PSA. That said, having had a couple of decades plus experience reading these boards, collecting, breaking slabs and resubmitting, I'd be very hesitant to jump in the crossover game. I'd strongly consider the minimum grade clause (not sure that is still out there), whereby PSA would not crack out a competitor slab and seal in PSA unless your requested minimum grade would be met. If you breaking the slab and resubmitting "raw," there's just so much chance for regret, losing a full grade or more.
I would feel much more comfortable with the minimum grade clause with mine. I, too, am not sure if they are still offering that. Either way, I think I would wait a bit until prices come down to do these.

After waiting a year my 23 card Value Vintage football sub has shipped. These are 23 cards that were all previously graded by Beckett Vintage Grading that I broke out of their cases and sent in to PSA. Why? Well as it has been said before generally PSA cards sell faster and show more value than Beckett. I agree with that if the cards are both carrying the same grade but in my case with this sub the value dropped big time. I understand how a person can send a card in that he thinks may be a 9 and it's really a 7 but these cards were previously graded by another reputable 3rd party grading company and I just don't understand how this is possible.
A few examples:
1957 Topps - Frank Gifford graded BVG 8 - came back PSA 5
1952 Bowman Small - Dante Lavelli graded BVG 8 - came back PSA 4
1958 Topps - Cleveland Browns Team card graded BVG 7 - came back PSA 3
1966 Topps - Joe Namath graded BVG 7 - came back PSA 5
1954 Bowman - Otto Graham graded BVG 5.5 - came back PSA 3MK ( I thought they stopped the qualifier grades)
The rest of the cards came back mostly 2 grades lower, only one card in the bunch came back with the same grade as it received with BVG. One even came back N8 miscut that previously was graded BVG 6.
So, in my opinion sending vintage cards in for grading is just a crap shoot with PSA. There should be no way two grading companies look at the same card and come up with grades that are 3 and 4 points different from each other. When this happens it most certainly would have been better to stay with Beckett.
The rest of my Beckett graded cards will stay as they are and from now on the only way I'll get a PSA graded card is when I buy it that way. These cards were only $12 each to grade, I can't imagine how it would feel to get a sub back like this with today's prices.
BVG grading is not the same as Beckett/BGS grading...I have seen some laughable grades on cards in BVG holders
For what it's worth, in my experience cracking out BGS 9.5 cards, with all 9.5 subgrades, they have all come back PSA 10's. I also make sure the corners have no visible touches prior to purchasing. FYI these were all year 2000 and up.
Ah, thanks. On mine, I have a range of mostly 9.5 sub grades, but some 10s, and two 9s. These are also modern cards (2007 and later).
Is it better to crack them out yourself rather than use their crossover service and let them do it?
A BGS 9 sub grade would likely rule out a 10 from PSA. Not saying impossible though, a 9 surface grade might be a tiny scratch on the back that PSA would not downgrade harshly for, etc.
I've always cracked them out of their slabs, never tried the crossover thing. I feel more comfortable letting them look at a card with no pre-judgement.

My wax packs were the same way. They went thru assembly and QA1 in the same day, then sat in QA2 for over a week. Looking thru all the post, there is no rhyme or reason to their process.

If you send for crossover and the card doesn't meet your desired grade it is still in a holder with the old grade. On the other hand, PSA is less likely to grade the card because they must be convinced from what they can see in the (old) holder that the card reaches minimum grade. If the grader isn't sure about a wrinkle or corner wear then he'll err on the side of caution. If you send the card in raw then neither of those apply.
Thanks for the feedback on BVG, I had no idea that they were any different than BGS and that a crossover would be so drastically different. Like some of you mentioned above, the BGS cards I cracked and sent in came back closer to their original grade.
BVG and BGS aligned more closely with PSA’s grading standards a few years back. PSA has definitely raised the standards for high grades in recent years IMHO.
Today marks 15 months at PSA and still in grading(for roughly a year apparently). I shouldn't have to call and inquire about the status as the CTDs are well past the log date for this sub. Ultra modern comprimises most of the backlog and I would be willing to guess that those subbing are fairly new to the hobbby, but don't forget the long time customers and their registries as well.
16 months as of today. Anybody want to guess which step the sub is in?

Might want to take an hour out of your day and give them a call. I just received a call that they "lost" one of my orders. It was sent 10/20 and received 11/20. 17 months later they call...

@76collector Wow, sorry to hear that Jeff. Of course that made my blood run cold and I called PSA only to get a message that customer service is in a meeting.
76collector!! How did they handle it and did they pay you fairly for the lost order? I have one I’m nervous about and have a value of 9800.00 on the form.
Also how are they loosing orders? Are they not locked up or what’s the deal!

It's still a fluid situation. My submission was not valued nearly that high. But it's upsetting never the less. We all value our stuff somewhat differently due to many factors including nostalgia and how personal it is to us. Sure an autographed Lebron James rc is more valuable than say a PSA 4 1968 Roberto Clemente. But what if your deceased father gave you the Clemente and you don't like basketball ? Which is more "valuable" to that collector ? That's what makes "value" so hard to quantify. I just would like for once to have a big company show they really care about the little guy, and prove it.

I hope they do something extra for you if they truly lost your cards rather than just the bare minimum of giving you the stated value of the cards. There was the massively long wait in addition to the personal factor you mentioned that should be considered.

Jeff, Maybe the 7 is due to print snow on Rickey's neck. I'd avoid sending in any pre-1990 cards with shiny new cards in the same submission group. Next to the shiny high tech modern cards, the original paper cards look like crap and the grader is probably snow blind from the refractors.

So how do true BGS grades typically map over to PSA? I have 4 BGS cards I bought that are all 9.5s (with either auto grades of 9 or 10) that I would love to have in PSA slabs some day... but not at the expense of multiple grade points.

That’s good to know. I have a 72 card that was entered the day before yours that has been in Assembly for about 10 days. Hoping some additional movement soon. I have 8 other orders that were entered throughout the month of April. Could be an expensive next couple of months. Hopefully the grades at least meet my lowered expectations.

I refreshed this morning, and it was still in QA1. Within an hour, I got an alert from my credit card of the charge going through. I checked, it was now in the Shipping phase. I don't know what happened to QA2.
I'm pretty happy with the overall turnaround time of this service though. Now, if they can maintain that turnaround when the prices come down, that would be an accomplishment.

Grading. It had gone through Research &ID, so my assumption is they made it back from Steve to PSA. I've got in touch with someone from PSA and I'm going to have a call early next week to hopefully come to a resolution. So, I'm not going to comment any more until after I have the call. \
On a brighter note, my order shipped today. So, here is the latest on where they are at on "Value Modern" orders.

My value modern was entered 4/7/21 and is still in grading. I have received back two value ultra orders entered 4/7 but another value ultra order entered the same day has been in assembly for 5 weeks. It hit assembly the same day as the others I've already gotten back which is odd. My first economy sub entered 2/7 hit QA2 yesterday.
Checking on an order in Qual #2 this morning (2 Days Now). Hit check orders and the Sub list is there, go to read a thread, come back, sub list for that order is gone.
What is the usual time frame when this occurs for Grades to Pop?

Glad your sub met your expectations.
I had/have the same issue with my current sub in assembly. I submitted 10-15 1985 Topps wrestling cards. I assumed they were all Topps because I purchased them all together in a collection. I entered them all as Topps but all the stickers were changed to OPC. Not sure how to tell the difference on the stickers so I am choosing to leave it alone. I did post the question here on the boards but got no replies. Not sure what it does to the value either. Oh well.
I had my ultra modern go into Assembly too. I hope there is a little gap between all of my submissions being returned. Otherwise I’ll have to sell quickly to recoup some of the money for the cost of grading. I currently have 2 in Assembly.

I have a sub that's been in assembly since 2/4/22 and another in grading since 10/30/21. Funny thing is, when I emailed PSA about the one stuck in assembly so long, I mentioned it had moved in lock-step with two other subs. Arrived, entered, grading, assembly and all same service level. Then it just stopped at assembly and the other two moved through and have been delivered. They replied to me and said "those went through faster than an anticipated as a one time courtesy". No idea what that is supposed to mean as I had never so much as inquired on status of any of those subs but ok...

The 1970 Football are GARBAGE Grades. I had 2 as 10's and the rest 8's & 9's. Guess this shows why you don't put Pre War with Post War in a Sub. The 1941 Uncle Sam are through the roof! I had them all pegged as VG-EX 4 to EX 5 with the possibility of maybe a couple as 6's! a 7.5+ NM with only one 8 Graded as Higher and then only one! Yeah!
It’s nice to see some movement again. I’ve had one in assembly for just shy of 3 weeks and another for a little over a week. They used to fly through this stage… not any more.
Gentlemen, just here to wish my sub a happy 1 year anniversary. Arrived 1/7/21, checked in 3/18/21, all 2016 Topps. Still in grading, but I asked for them to really graded, like really really graded and they are clearly just obeying my wishes.

Good point Jayman. I think modern cards have more of a straight line grade correlation chance than vintage cards, even with BGS grading. Also, current PSA grading climate for pre-1981 cards would lead me to keeping cards in slabs for now.
Used to working on HOF SS Baseballs--Now just '67 Sox Stickers and anything Boston related.
I would feel much more comfortable with the minimum grade clause with mine. I, too, am not sure if they are still offering that. Either way, I think I would wait a bit until prices come down to do these.
and yet I have heard of people who have had their orders in assembly for weeks or months...just crazy how inconsistent the whole thing is at PSA currently...
BVG grading is not the same as Beckett/BGS grading...I have seen some laughable grades on cards in BVG holders

Very nice success. When was the last time this happened?

Oh man that is some scary stuff. My cards were not high value, but there were a LOT of low count parallels, essentially irreplaceable. I am sitting on only 14 months, status “grading”, so still holding out hope…
76collector. At 17 months were you in any stage particular? Like q1 or grading?

Morning,
Checking on an order in Qual #2 this morning (2 Days Now). Hit check orders and the Sub list is there, go to read a thread, come back, sub list for that order is gone.
What is the usual time frame when this occurs for Grades to Pop?
Thanks
YeeHaw!
Neil
That isn't really the latest on where they are at with value modern because I have an order that was entered 2 weeks before that date (Feb 25, 2021) that is still in assembly.
My first Econ order popped this am. Arrived 2/8/22, grades 3/11/22. 4-10’s and a 9. Exactly what I expected for grades.
Good Morning,
So I answered my own question, about 16 hours at least!

The two Wacky that got 8's are a gift, I expected mostly 5/6's. The Hitmakers were expected to be 7's or 8's, 4 out of 7 isn't too bad, must have missed something on the HoneyCone! The Hitmaker 8's are all the Highest Graded or tied for. I see that some Clown has been exhibiting a couple of the other 8's for $799 and $995.00. I say Exhibit, because they are never going to sell. My 8's will be under $200!
And I am going to have a problem with the O-PEE-Chee Wacky, cause I dint know if it actually is one or when I was filling out the form 15 months ago, it Auto Filled Incorrectly? I don't remember, I'm not sure how to even tell if they are Topps or O-Pee-Chee. When it went to review I had no idea, so I left it alone!

Oh well.
21 card value modern.
Arrived 2/23/21
Entered 4/14/21
Grading 11/17/21
Hopefully no more than another few weeks, based on other timelines I've seen.
I had my ultra modern go into Assembly too. I hope there is a little gap between all of my submissions being returned. Otherwise I’ll have to sell quickly to recoup some of the money for the cost of grading. I currently have 2 in Assembly.
I do not think they know the different to be honest.
Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
Can a moderator please PM me.
I think it's going to be a while yet. My value modern entered 4/7 hit grading 10/30 and is still in grading. Value Ultra is definitely ahead of modern.
So much for asking my heart to beat still because almost 2 weeks later and it's still in assembly.
That's not a typo. Just about 13 months since logged and still not done. Not arrived...... logged.
Hang in there…..it’s getting close…. I can feel it!!!
(…. Oh… and I’m somewhere behind you in line so I’m trying to remain optimistic!!!)

Lightning quick. Only 10 days in grading is very good.
My first econ took 39 days from delivered to grades. I'm at 31 days on another that is in QA2.
This is unacceptable. Should be no economy events while this is going on.
@rexvos no argument from me. I have two subs that are still there, delivered last February. I've still taken advantage of multiple Express, Regular and Economy submissions though. I hate the amount I have to invest in grading for some of these cards though.
3 from Feb 2 from March for me. One has been in QA 1 for 2 weeks. (After being in assembly over a month )Never had QA1 go over 24-48 hours before. Other 2 have been in assembly for over a week, close to 2. Once I clear all of these I’ll consider subbing again eventually

Yeah!
YeeHaw!
Neil
Neil I love that Uncle Sam set. Nice work there!!
Went from still being in assembly yesterday, to being in QA2 as of just now.
It’s nice to see some movement again. I’ve had one in assembly for just shy of 3 weeks and another for a little over a week. They used to fly through this stage… not any more.
