My 25-card Value Modern order has almost the exact received and entered dates (10/29/20 and entered 01/25/21), and have been stuck in Grading since June 30th. This gives me hope though! lol

Today I reached QA1. About a week in Assembly. It is a 20 card Modern-Value sub of 76 & 77 Topps AS cards. I am happy finally to be getting closer but I am also wary of getting hammered (again). Maybe, things will be better this time around....

    >

EDITED TO ADD: Received 10/08/2020 Entered 01/13/2021 (in case it helps anyone who is tracking).

    QA2 today!!!!! :)

Grades Popped today. Not great but better than my last. I am not sure that I will ever earn another 10 on a '70s card. I thought all of these would grade at least 8, most 9, and a few had the ever-fleeting hope for the unicorn 10. I was wrong once again. :( These were submitted prior to my learning about the "stricter/more accurate" grading standards. :) I don't know what the heck happened with those Kingman's; they came straight from vending years ago. EDIT: For those who are interested, these arrived 10/06/2020 and were entered on 01/13/2021. One year exactly from in the door to out!

Had one of 3 subs that arrived the same day hit Assembly last night

All arrived and logged 11/20 logged 2/5 (2 Moderns 1 Ultra Modern) The Moderns have been in grading for over two months. The one that hit assembly last night went into grading a day before the other. Not sure what the going rate on assembly time last time I had a sub pop was 7/7/21

Overall, pretty disappointed. These were sent in right before the big price jumps, so I was fully expecting upcharges on multiple of the big rookies. That never happened. Thought most were 1-2 grades lower than expected. Other than the big rookies, which would've been submitted no matter what, I thought the others would be mostly 9's, with a few shots at 10's, not mostly 8's with a few shots at 9s like what I received. I felt like I over scrutinized them before sending, knowing they had to get 9's to make it worth it. I'm just thinking out loud here, but couldn't help to wonder if it was a new grader and if they weren't sure of a grade, if they then went by my declared value to help speed it up because a lot of them seemed be a grade where the declared value would put it. I tend to go low on my declared values in years past and this was the first time I noticed it. IDK. Like I said, just thinking out loud. I am looking forward to getting them back in-hand to check them over again and see if I missed something, but I don't think so.

Some tough sets there, especially the 1986 Topps football, with the green borders and usual tough centering...1984 football also typically bad centered...post a few pics of the ones you felt got lower grades than anticipated once you get them back

Okay I have decided to step back up onto my soapbox. THE 86 TOPPS FOOTBALL IS UNFAIRLY GRADED! The stigma is unfair and it has just stuck. Getting a PSA 9 with the modern graders is damn near impossible. I am still not sure how you got the MINT 9 1986 Topps 67 Howie Long grade.

Sorry to see your results, I feel for you. You should stop sending in any 86's for at least 3 to 5 years. Thankfully I gave up on ever getting a Rice to grade high 2 or 3 years ago. I couldn't take the pain any longer.

After getting them back and being able to look them over again, it seems they were particularly harsh on the centering. Here's a few of the pics I thought were off. I'm all for constructive criticism...I certainly could've missed something and there's always something to learn. Note-if there's a faint vertical line, it's the scanner, not the card.

    Thought this was a 9+

Thought this was at least a good shot at a 10.

I thought all these Rice's were at least 1 grade low, if not 2. I've never sent in for a review, but I might on these.

I would argue the TB centering on this 3rd one kept it at a 7, but it's pert near the same as the 8?

Thought this was a solid 9 with a pretty good shot at a 10.

Thought this was a solid 9 with a pretty good shot at a 10 as well.

    Thought this was an 8+

@swish54 wish I could help you here. 86 Topps and 89 Score kill me. I consistently am a grade high on them but do pretty well on everything else. I feel like the edges and corners are critiqued much harsher on those sets.

Nice hit on the Vandersloots, @Czone I'm sure there are way bigger cards in that sub, but those are the ones that I like best. None of my Sloots are graded.

Thanks. I was pretty excited to get 10s on those two that I bought raw off of Ebay. I've been a Gonzaga Season Ticket Holder for 15 years now and Courtney is as good of a pure point guard as I have seen. Enjoying watching her and the Sky in the Playoffs.

I hate the fact that they do up charges on a sub that was submitted a year ago! Last year those cards weren’t worth what they are today. When you submitted them you submitted them at the correct service level. You were charged for a service that you didn’t receive. They shouldn’t charge more for a higher priced card anyway because it doesn’t take anymore time or effort to grade. The only reason we should pay more is if we want the cards back sooner and your cards did not come back any sooner. I have a few in the pipeline that I expect to get upcharged on. I have a few Shohei Ohtani cards that MAY have been worth $80 when I submitted them and are now selling closer to $1,000. Had those cards been processed in 2 months, which is about how long bulk subs used to take, they would have been well below the next service level threshold. I know I won’t have an argument with them when/if I do get upcharged, so im venting here.

Nice cards though! Glad you got the grades you were hoping for! Good luck in the future

Totally agree. There is some kind of double dipping going on here... you're waiting a year for your cards AND paying at today's rates. You're being punished for their inability to grade the cards in any kind of reasonable amount of time.

    Exactly!

Here’s an example of one that went the other way.

In March I pulled a Ronald Acuña Jr from a 2018 Topps Update. It was the short print of him in his batting practice Jersey. At the time that card was selling for ~ $2,000 in PSA 10. Thought for sure this card was a 10 so I sent it in at whatever level was $1,500-$2,499 (don’t remember the level, been too long and too many submissions since). Card comes back graded PSA 9 so that knocked close to $1,000 off the value. Well I didn’t get a refund for submitting it at a higher level than needed, which I am ok with. I understand that’s the service I paid for and the card was back within a month. But as was stated above we can’t be charged today’s prices for last year’s submissions.

@parthur1607 - totally agree with every word you said- Since I joined these forums earlier this year I have seen and heard the same venting - I would normally go toe to toe with them for the exact reason stated but I know it falls on a deaf ear. It aint right but they made the rules and are sticking to it. The up side is that I'm getting those cards back and will enjoy listing them in the very near future. Thanks for the comment! Good luck to you as well

Definitely is not a fair way to go about it for certain, if anything I would have loved to have had these cards back in the earlier months of the year but cant change that.

while weve been groomed to accept this is the truth, i think its time the collecting group as a whole snaps back to reality. enough deflection & shade. lets get back to the real world.

eta: and when it was a few days or a week, that is tolerable. when we are talking an entire fiscal quarter or longer…enough is enough.

@nam812 That is kind of what I was expecting too. I have 8 more value submissions that were entered throughout the month of April that I do not expect movement for a while.

    2nd sub hit assembly today.

Ands the one that hit Assembly 2nd popped today. While the other that originally hit assembly still sits. I am not thrilled with the results but not terrible. I hoped for better on a few or just 1 really nice hit out of the 70s. It kind of stinks that the only 10 I got was a card I alreasy owned in a 10.

I feel your pain. I have recently subbed a lot of 75-77 Topps cards and haven't faired well. They are very tough on them these days (as I am sure you are well-aware). Good luck in the future.

    Some movement to report...
37 card value vintage arrived 11/24/20, received 2/9/21, grading mid-August, moved into Assembly today 10/14.
44 card value moderns with same exact dates through the system, synchronized up.

    1 card, reholder.

    recvd: 1/27/21
    logged: 3/25/21
    poppage: 10/14/21

notes: 10 months to reholder a single card. they best get it together in this ever changing environment. gradings one thing. this long of a turnaround for a card thats already in the system is absurd.

I pray that this is an agenda item for their re-org: Reholder orders get sent somewhere else, nowhere near the mountain of cards to be graded, and also are beholden to a different timeline to completion. Such a different animal - it shouldn't even be on the same list of services.

1977 is a rough year for centered cards. The Schmidt must look sweet.

Express sub, been there a little over two weeks, but has been sitting in QA2 for a few days now. Not expecting an upcharge, so I don't know what the holdup is. QA2 is usually the quickest step, in my experience.

2.5 is pretty much my speed.

This thread has been quiet. In looking at the CTE we , there has been no movement since 10/6. > @rexvos said:

You are giving me hope! My 4 subs arrived 2/24 and entered 4/7. What are we setting the over/under at..3 months, 6 months? I'm hoping the really big avalanche was stuff arrived on or after mid-March so maybe we will beat that and get stuff a bit sooner.

My buddy had an express sit in qa2 for two days and got the upcharge email on day 2 after losing hope. :)

I wouldn’t count on it so if there is an up charge, you can be pleasantly surprised. :)

They graded about 50-60k less cards last week than they had in previous weeks according to sites that track their pop reports, so my guess would be there are a lot of people with orders that are close to being finalized.
