This is my first ever grading submission. I got back into the hobby in January 2020 right before all heck broke loose, and started buying unopened material from my favorite childhood sets from the late 70s through the 80s. These are almost all for my PC. Some comments:
The 1980 Henderson was from a wax pack I opened in 1980 and it's possible that there was some surface damage that I didn't see, beyond the corner touches. But, still a well-centered card with good eye appeal and 5s are going for what 7s were when I submitted this.
1981 Donruss: I was hoping to get at least one Gem out of those, but in retrospect I think the cuts were a bit rough.
1981 Topps: Thrilled to get 5 Gems out of the 30 cards that I predicted as 9 or 10!! I correctly predicted 3 of the
Gems, and also got a Gem on a HOFer! These came from thousands of unopened cards I bought in early 2020. I obviously missed something on one of the Ozzies and Vida Blue. This set is my current focus from my childhood years, and this puts me at 100+ 9s and 10s.
1986 Topps: Also from unopened in early 2020. Didn't do as well here but nothing tragic; the black borders are tough.
1987 Topps Traded: Wow! I broke my childhood set and if I thought I was going to get Gems, I would have submitted more. Might sell the Maddux, even with 3900+ 10s out there, it still goes for a good price.
1989 Griffey rookies: Glad to get a 9 on one of them; childhood cards.
Disappointed at the MINSIZE for the Ripken FF, that was one of the first cards I bought off of ebay at the very beginning of 2020 for about $25.
1989 Score: This was just for fun along the lines of the FF card, the 1972 Topps Billy Martin "finger" card, 1964 Topps Ray Sadecki background sign, etc; centering was marginal for a 9 and I probably missed a corner or surface issue.
Very happy with this as my first submission, nice to see that I can judge cards reasonably well. Ignoring the N6, my predictions averaged about 1/4 point optimistic. Unfortunately the future of submitting low-value cards like these is up in the air, but that's a worry for later.
Late night loggage in each of the last two days. I choose to take that as a good sign. For me that's now 8 orders in Research & ID stage that I shipped out between late September and late February. All low end stuff.

Congrats. I'd say you did very well for your first sub. Especially on the 1981's. Those aren't easy to get 10's on. Good work Mount ! Gives the rest of us some hope on our subs that we will see some 10's as well.

It's either PSA grading or nothing. But Just to give you guys an idea. I sent an $8 per card 25 card minimum quarterly special to PSA in late July 2020. There were 35 1952 Topps commons in the package. PSA acknowledged receipt of package on July 29, 2020. It was officially entered on Sept 24, 2020. It was in "Research & Id" until March 22, 2021 when it finally went into "Grading". Last week 04/17 went into "Assembly" . Today is Thursday April 22, 2021. No grades yet. Should be soon.

Well this one popped about 10:45 last night while I was watching the end of the Astros / Angels tilt. Pleasantly surprised that I did not get absolutely hammered on it.
On both the Tiffany cards and the Fleer Updates the cards were super clean but did not have 10 centering, stoked about the grades I received.

these have been my frustrations for well over a month. i have a couple expresses that havent been logged in in over a month. everything was fine and dandy up until 1/15. then outta the blue they started treating the higher service levels like bulk. makes absolutely zero sense.

What exactly are they doing there inside PSA in certain areas ? Its like make one change here that's supposed to increase through put in receiving, yet over in order processing, no ones paying attention to the MONEY orders- the ones that will impact bottom line profit faster.
So gradings over there wasting time grading orders from say a bulk sub by some discounted tier submitter , while Customer X and their $1000 level submission sits , even though the box clearly stated the highest service level inside was a MONEY submission. So grading or order entry is wasting say five minutes on ten cards that impact bottom line $120 , while some $1000 level paid card sits. Makes zero sense.
No one I know wants their 35 or so $20 priced bulk cards 'entered" when their $1000 tier level priced card is sitting there.
Get that $1000 card entered first- then go back and get whatever they wanted done.
one mans opinion- I honestly care about helping, but its like my old job all over again- seems like I care ,but the people there don't -- at least its the message I feel I am getting.
the new psa subamint technology. completely removes the human element of making rational decisions on dictating which subs should come first based upon whos cards have been there the longest or monetary hierarchy.

They received 3 months worth of cards in 3 days. They crashed the mail system in Southern California.
Saying the graders just don’t care, is ridiculous. Since the shutdown I read they’re getting 20-25k cards graded a day.
I sent a $300 super express last Friday, one card. It’s already graded and was shipped out to me today. It was one card, went like clockwork.
I have a 79 card order that arrived 8/3, entered 9/29, and been in grading since 3/24. I know a lot of you have orders that have been there longer, and I get it. But I know they’re doing what they can at least.
More people need to give them the benefit of the doubt. Not only are they working diligently on this, they’re in the process of buying 50k more sq ft, they’re grading around the clock, 7 days a week. The company has gone from 350 to 750 employees, and sounds like new graders are hitting the floor every two weeks. It’s all in Steve sloan’s letters and joe Orlando’s articles.
I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements and updates that PSA will be making.

The company has gone from 350 to 750 employees, and sounds like new graders are hitting the floor every two weeks. It’s all in Steve sloan’s letters and joe Orlando’s articles.
I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements and updates that PSA will be making.
not knocking your sub at all here. bc im honestly jealous. but i will counter your 5 day super express w a 2 week premium 1! 3.1 times more expensive and takes more than thrice the time? 😳
this is what has me rattled. take as long as they want on my bulk. economy even. i specifically paid to have this card NOT get held up, yet they are banging out super expresses nearly three times as fast? theres something fundamentally wrong here.
you would think a very basic incoming routing system for the higher tiered levels would be in place when they implemented the barcode system, right? instead, its seems it going backwards. again, as of 1/15 the higher levels were somewhat predictable. now its anything but. they took the very few things that were and tossed them out the window.

No worries sir, I know you’re not. I submitted thinking it was gonna take that long.
Couple questions. Do you use usps or fed ex to ship the majority? I used fed ex 2 day on my super express with bar code.
I switched from usps after my vintage sub.
Perhaps they they keep the usps and fed ex separate, and have their own lines, so to speak? Throughout all this I haven’t heard much of anything on the Fed ex front about overwhelming arrivals. I would wager 75-90% are shipped usps. There would be a lot more to go through, on that front, than say fed ex. Perhaps they scan Fed ex quicker bc bit as many people ship that way, leading to fast turn around times?
If I came off insulting I apologize. I know you and many others have a lot of subs there right now, and I don’t mean to downplay your frustrations in any way. So if I have I apologize. I just try to bring things up that may not be considered is all.
I just had my crossover and regular orders entered. They were received on 3/8. I still have bulk vintage orders that were received the same day that haven't been logged in yet.

no, not insulting what so ever. i was worried & didnt want it to come off as insulting to you by doing a comparison of your sub vs my sub. i just got the crap hand timing wise on that one. i just call them like i see them on a case by case basis. like the ultra modern that was entered in less than a month. they def get an “atta boy” there. wonderful to see. a surprise even. but then they totally dropped the ball on the premium 1. just give them credit when they deserve and call it out when the head scratchers come up. it all evens out in my book.
but for shipping, i use fedex priority overnight thru express saver. never ground, never usps. and for anyone else that has gotten to here, do NOT use ups right now. there seems to be a case of some sticky fingers in that local hub and cards are coming up missing from boxes vs whats on the sub manifests. several different, non connected reports. definitely ups situation but psa is obviously taking the brunt...for now. and no one heard this from me. but back to using fedex, the address is actually the fedex hub itself. much safer and im a huge proponent that the less number of outside hands on my boxes, the better. i also wont ship on a friday. ill wait til monday so they arent sitting in memphis over the weekend. but anyways, no apologies needed whatsoever, trust me. its refreshing to hear some recently subbed super expresses are being banged out that quickly. ive honestly been gun shy about sending anything else in lately. i dont mind paying the coin, but i do mind paying the coin to get a headache. if i knew they could consistently bang them out in under 10 days, there’d be quite a few more fedex boxes headed that way!
@Rofles - understood. Many people just don't see all of what I see , and I understand that part of it as well.
Its frustration boiling over. I'll get over it. No need to apologize . I've done enough ankle grabbing in the last year between my hobby and personal/work lives to vent and move on. Thanks though for the post
On another front 4 of my March 9ths bulks got logged. But my regular sub sits there like @blurryface unlogged
I believe they are working on the March 9-11th time frames right now entry wise.
That tracker appears to translate as running a bit backwards frankly...a full week goes by and the needle doesn't even move for express orders?...I think it may have moved a day ahead on regular. The whole idea of paying the premium is to have them expedited accordingly or so I thought....pushing two months just to get a half dozen express orders entered. 10k cards and 300 orders between november and the end of march...I have 27 cards so far. That's a bit rough

meh sub i guess. lines 1 - 4 seem overly harsh. lines 5 - 10 were all previously grading rejects prior to the boom that were just sitting in a box. so wasn't necessarily expecting lights out results there. bit surprised all 3 flair cards ended up getting holdered. was expecting at least 1 min siz card in there. do remember the ric flair cards still having the "$50" paid stickers on the toploaders. 😉

We're pretty much back into shitshow territory at this point. I have a 50 card value sub with 1 I know needs research as there was no pop comp, but the rest were fine...arrived 9/25, Entered 12/28 (wth?), still in R and ID. That's 7+ months w/o even hitting grading yet.

honestly, it’s good turn around...now. but prior to february regular and expresses were getting banged out in under 30 calendar days. so this actually was one of those initial subs, because psa certainly didnt announce total rearrangement, that had me pissed and wondering wtf is going on?!? so for me, its about a month and a half late. i mean thats the reason i subbed a bunch of previous rejects at the $50 level. solely for timing purposes. but the good news is that there wasnt any upcharges on the flairs. i just looked up what 8s are doing now and wowzers. this kinda gets back to a previous mention of it all working out in the end. i didnt get upcharged when i could have AND thevye gone up another $1k from when i was supposed to have them back. i prefer the glass is half full approach. 😉

Yeah, those are some killer hits. Since March, looks like those have gone for $3,000, $3500, and $3272. Congrats! As far as the upcharges go, I think it’s who’s in control of your order at that time, just like the grader of death. I had a 2003 Topps LeBron come back a PSA 10 at the $20 regular order price and did not get the upcharge. Those were going for about $6k at the time. I even contacted customer service about it, and they said it was fine, not to worry. 🙂
I sent in a 53 bowman Mantle , express 11-27 , it went to research and ID in Feb. where it still lies. IT's a 1953 Bowman Mantle . research ???? how much research does it take to figure out it's a 1953 Bowman Mickey Mantle. I am hoping for a 4 , mabe they will send it back," no such card found " . " Bowman did not print cards in 1953." RESEARCHER OF DEATH.

I would call that a fantastic first sub (or ANY sub)...congrats

@76collector thanks! I’m pretty excited!!
From the scan you posted. It was fully deserving.

Ty much sir!
Heck yeah man ! Good job, I love me some 86 Donruss too. Great hits there, and the 85 donruss Rocket. That is probably my favorite card of his and tough with those black borders.

@rexvos
no. no, they dont! 1/30? every dog and blind squirrels
@blurryface I stand corrected
These are mine at the moment: 9/1 economy is in assembly. All others ae R&ID
Anyone getting movement with Regular orders? I have a two-card Regular that's on Day 46 of grading.
nope. i have regulars that are over a month in and havent even been logged.
oh theres more... 😉
and @Geoff76 notice this regular 😳
Brutal. I need to stop checking.
I had 3 bulk orders entered 4/19 and I have 4 more including 2 express orders not entered yet?? how could that be??? all shipped together.
They are not good at this.
these have been my frustrations for well over a month. i have a couple expresses that havent been logged in in over a month. everything was fine and dandy up until 1/15. then outta the blue they started treating the higher service levels like bulk. makes absolutely zero sense.
They are not good at this.
haha, can they be not good at it on someone else's subs?
check.

Get that $1000 card entered first- then go back and get whatever they wanted done.
one mans opinion- I honestly care about helping, but its like my old job all over again- seems like I care ,but the people there don't -- at least its the message I feel I am getting.
jeff
the new psa subamint technology. completely removes the human element of making rational decisions on dictating which subs should come first based upon whos cards have been there the longest or monetary hierarchy.

I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements and updates that PSA will be making.
not knocking your sub at all here. bc im honestly jealous. but i will counter your 5 day super express w a 2 week premium 1!
Just a guess

After I swore I wouldn’t check on my two-card regular for a while, I just checked and it has moved to assembly. Can’t believe it. Entered 3/8.
That’s a damn good turnaround time for a regular order. No upcharge on the Flair’s?
honestly, it’s good turn around...now. but prior to february regular and expresses were getting banged out in under 30 calendar days. so this actually was one of those initial subs, because psa certainly didnt announce total rearrangement, that had me pissed and wondering wtf is going on?!? so for me, its about a month and a half late. i mean thats the reason i subbed a bunch of previous rejects at the $50 level. solely for timing purposes. but the good news is that there wasnt any upcharges on the flairs. i just looked up what 8s are doing now and wowzers. this kinda gets back to a previous mention of it all working out in the end. i didnt get upcharged when i could have AND thevye gone up another $1k from when i was supposed to have them back. i prefer the glass is half full approach.
No upcharge on the Flair's. W-O-O-O-O-O-O-O!!
