There was a thread about a month ago or so that was referencing 1918 and I went through coin facts looking at all of the 1918, 1918-D and 1918-S Mercs...that example is certainly the prettiest 1918 example from any Mint in Coin Facts...and I posted it in the thread and tagged Wayne to try to draw him out of hiding but it didn't work. Fantastic Coin!...as are many of his coins. :)

An unfortunate one in my collection, not quite my favorite, but still admired.

My dealer friend suggests that I crack the coin out and send it in to NGC. Should I? :*

Yes, if you are an NGC member or if it has sentimental value. I read somewhere there is a coin dealer that buys problem coins also. I am on pins and needles myself. I submitted a sentimental Liberty. It is in grading, but I checked the box not to holder with only a genuine grade.

    Nice ones @nwcoast
What’s the grade on the 1940-S?

There are about 6+ DDOs known for the date.
I am almost certain that you have the DDO-002 & DDR-001 which translates into the Cherrpickers' Guide FS-901.
Probably not a huge premium in that condition but certainly not bad.

I'm looking for one but more in the 66FB or higher realm.

    Well thank you!
I didn’t realize it might be a ddo!
Those minor ones sometimes fly right under my radar.
This one is raw and housed in my Dansco album. Maybe I should send it in? Doesn’t look very high with a dash of high point rub on the obverse?
Certainly worth further analysis though! Thanks for the heads up! :-)

If it isn't MS then I wouldn't send it in. Keep it in the Dansco and enjoy. :)
