Well, I felt like someone should needed to rescue this. It appears to have some verdigris starting but I think I'm going to watch it and sees what happens.......either way such a great Numismatic medal for $18 1970 Medal California State Numismatic Association CSNA ANACS MS65
My new goodie... and gotta say can't agree with the listed "value" since the last one sold at an ANA auction in Aug with the same grade (and not as nice) sold for $204.... PCGS list it's value at ...$22... I'll say I paid more then 22 but less then 100 so i'm darn happy with it
I've been a fan of Robert Maxey's classically inspired pieces for some time and have a number in silver and brass so I was happy to pick up this lead die trial.
1983 The Baltimore City Mint Medal - by Robert Maxey - lead die trial
This is a neat die trial as the reverse uses Gasparro's 1977 small eagle pattern design.
1985 The Baltimore City Mint Medal - by Robert Maxey - reverse lead die trial
A raw 1875-S Trade dollar but a late state. Dies were clashed and cleaned up for more production. Both dies shattered to a degree. Nice radial break (among others) on the obverse through the olive leaves. The reverse has extensive breaking too with a long one out of the lower left denticles. Huge chip break on the upper left wing edge and many breaks along the right wing edge. The particular coin also exhibits a planchet flake.
Finally added the 1916-D Merc to the collection. Would love to have a higher grade but unfortunately VG8 is the best I could afford. Maybe one of these days I’ll upgrade it and snag a XF grade. Either way, I’ll enjoy my “grail” coin as it is. 😃
Collector of Circulated Winged Liberty Head Dimes (Mercury Dimes)
Picked up the last piece for my 59 Proof set I'm putting together. Got it from Great Collections for under $40 - I think it got lost in the listings somehow and was surprised as heck to win it.
Maybe the light reverse strike had something to do with it but I was out for a frosty example and this fit the bill perfectly.................

. . . . . is getting on eBay before their morning "what's new in your searches" emails go out. If you can get to the site before those emails, you've got half a chance at scoring some really rare pieces. Once the masses get the alert, stuff like this is usually gone.
If I hadn't been sleepless last week, I never would have scored the following.
I know they weren't there when I went to bed some four or five hours earlier. I guarantee they weren't there 10 minutes later before I took my regular evening "bio-break" . . . . . .

I am exceedingly happy that the seller was a fairly lousy photographer. These look WAY better in the hand than in the photos above.
Maybe I'm overly impressed with these, but I never believed a podunk exonumia bottom feeder like myself could ever add something this nice to my collection.
Steph, this is what I have been hinting about for the past few days.

Today I dropped by my LCS to pick up a cull silver.dollar to add to the stack. When I saw that he also had a 1982 silver Washington half dollar for $9.00, I snagged that one too.

@coinsarefun ,
Cannot wait for the backstory on these. Sweet stuff.
